Business Description: American Sun Control has been serving the Mid-Missouri area and surrounding communities since 1985. The company began as American Safety and Security Film (ASSF), installing solar and security film in second homes at the Lake of the Ozarks. ASSF maintained the security film business through relationships with the FBI but as demand for window tinting increased, American Sun Control (ASC) was born. American Sun Control was the first at the Lake of the Ozarks to install window tinting film but as time went by the company began to provide other products and services to the residents of the Lake area. Karen Zaborac, awarded the 1998 Small Business Person of the Year, maintained their existing glass tinting clients and began offering fabric awnings which lead into patio covers, retractable deck awnings, deck and dock shades and party tent rentals. The growth of their business caught the attention of SCORE, Senior Corps of Retired Executives, and they awarded American Sun Control the honorable title of National Small Business of the Year in 1998. Today, American Sun Control manufactures do-it-yourself railing and supplies dealers with the DIY Railing System. The dealers sell to do it yourselfers all over Missouri. American Sun Control also continues to manufacture and install custom aluminum railing, spiral staircases, Phantom retractable screens and doors, screen enclosures, awnings, dock shades, deck shades, deck covers, patio covers, retractable awnings and glass window tinting.

Recent Review: In the beginning, it was tough to get a hold of him- understandably there were personal problems, and honestly, the work he did and his personality made up for it. We are planning to use him again to finish our basement and are thrilled to have found someone that we like and does great work!

Recent Review: Devin did a wonderful job in restaining all of our decking, stairs, and railings.  It was a big project, and it was done beautifully.  Devin also was very responsive in coming back to fix the one  small mistake that was made during the project.  My husband and I are big fans of him and his wife Holly, and we would not hesitate to hire his company again for a future job!

Recent Review: The first day he framed in the shower. It isn't totally finished but looks good. The next time he built a set of stairs in our garage so we can use the second story. It was a difficult event to figure out cuz we wanted to use as little space as possible. It was hot and alot of work. He did a great job and was very fun and pleasant to be around. We have so much for him to do. Hopefully he/we will get it done. Thanks Tim!

Recent Review: Contractor was very professional and  on time, very courteous and polite. Went the extra mile to make sure i was pleased with the services. I had also asked them if they would do extra things, and they never hesitated to accept what i had asked of them. And they were very reasonable on their cost. Always kept a clean work area during and at the end of the day. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Recent Review: This went horrible.  First there was two rooms and even though I asked them to do the furthest room first they did not.  Shannon and Regina sheet rocked the first room and it was horrible.  They left huge gaps between the sheet rock sheets and did not us tape.  They just tried to mud the gaps which when it dried looked like it was done by a four year old.  Then they  took another job and Shannon go hurt on the other job.  I asked him if we should hire someone else and he said no he was fine and he could finish the job.  Every day that they actually did show up it was always at least two hours later than stated the day before. One day my wife and I had to literally baby sit their five kids because they brought him to our home. When they did start sanding they didn't let us have a chance to cover anything up so everything that was up stairs was covered in sheetrock dust.  We had in house air conditioner up stairs which I think is ruined because not only did they not protect it from the dust it even got painted on.  Finally on the last day my wife went up stairs and Shannon was literally laying on the floor.  My wife said what is wrong and he said honestly My wife doesn't know what she is doing.  This after we was told that they both knew how to do the work. My wife asked the to leave.  To date we have had seven more handymen come in to give bids and all seven said that they have never seen work more horrible than what S & R have done.  Now I have pay someone else more to fix what S & R did they also keeped the first half of the money paid to them.  Horrible horrible frustrating experience for me and my family.

Everything went really well considering we were not planning to replace flooring in the kitchen or installing a new sliding glass door. Our initial intent was to replace/fix the grout in the kitchen that was cracking and coming up. However upon further review it was discovered that the tile had not been appropriately laid initially. When removing the tile from the kitchen we found that our sliding glass door had been leaking and there was damage to our floor and the door needed to be replaced. Very happy with the results overall.

Duke, the only employee, came over within two days to take measurements and once I purchased the doors he picked them up from the store 2 days later and brought them over. I was so impressed and I thought I found a good contractor but it didn't take long for that to change. He told me he would be over on a Monday to start the project but he did not come for another 12 days and didn’t even show up on time. I was told all of the delays were due to a different project that he was working on. He came back a different day to finish installing the remaining doors; he didn’t show up on time that day either. My husband went home at lunch to see how things were going. Duke was outside and did not come in for 30 minutes. When he did, he only asked to use my husband's phone because his got shut off or some sort of issue. After Duke was done using it he went back outside so my husband just left after another 15 minutes. I got home from work and all of the doors had been installed. The last part was for him to add a deadbolt to a door and cleanup. He knew there was a deadbolt that needed to be installed but he did not have the right tools so my husband let him borrow one of his own. He put in the deadbolt and went downstairs to the garage to cleanup. I noticed after he left my house there was a hole in the door near the deadbolt and he left an old door in the garage that he should have taken with him. I can't say for sure that he did see the hole, but it seems impossible not to considering he would have been eye to eye with it as he came up the stairs and also, that door had been installed for 4 days and there was not a hole in it, until the dead bolt was installed anyway. As far as the old door he did not take with him, he told me he must have just and quot;forgottenand quot; it. Later in the week when we were trying to setup a time for him to replace the door with the hole, he changed his story and said he was possibly driving illegal with all of the other old doors in the back of his truck and that’s why he left the one in the garage. Integrity is a huge thing with me and he proved to have none after that. My husband was not happy with his work and did not care to be at the house when Duke came back to change out the door. He also did not want to be there because Duke was so rude when he went to check on him during lunch. When I told Duke certain times would not work because my husband didn’t want to be at the house when he was, Duke got irate. He started yelling at me on the phone, talking in circles, saying my husband should be able to handle himself, called him a word that I will not repeat here, etc. I found it ironic that as Duke is yelling at me, he's the one that can't even handle himself, a businessman. 50 minutes later we finally worked out a time and Duke came to change out the door. Once again, he still did not have the right tools to put the deadbolt in. Needless to say it did not get put in but I did get the money for the labor of the deadbolt back. Now onto his workmanship...he put a nickel size dent in my wall. When I pointed it out he moved on to a different subject. He banged up the trim on one door and had no intentions of replacing it. The only reason he did was because he had to come back to replace the door with the hole and had leftover trim from the casing of that door; Lowes gave us a new door with no charge to anyone. There was paint chipped off the wall in the main bedroom. He did not clean up after himself. I found big staples on the ground which could be bad if stepped on and there was also chunks of drywall and other debris left in several areas of the house. Several doors had trim that did not come together in the corners and were not flush with the walls. He knocked 3 tiles off the wall when removing the bathroom door and did not attempt to put them back on. He also installed some of his nails crooked and they are poking through the trim. All three of the doors into our bedrooms did not sit level and would slowly swing shut on their own. He said that he couldn't fix this and he just blamed it on the age of the house; his same excuse for many other issues that were brought to his attention. My husband spent 5 minutes on fixing them and now all of them stay open on their own. He said from the start that he would come back and fix anything that we weren't happy with but at this point it is just easier to fix ourselves and not have to deal with Carpenters anymore. It seems as if he takes on too many projects, more than a business with one employee can handle.
