Recent Review: It went outstanding. We didn't have any walls open, but that didn't stop Tom from giving us a full assessment. He spent an hour walking around our home, taking measurements and answering our questions. Tom is extremely knowledgeable, very polite and has many years experience. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Tom again and recommend his services.

Recent Review: Excellent work and recommendations! We were most pleased with having an independent evaluator give us a written report for the buyer of our home. He responded quickly and came in well under comparable engineering firms.

Recent Review: Called and made an appointment the same day for the following week. Engineer was prompt, professional and did a thorough job. He explained everything to me in layman's terms and followed up with a written email. We were very pleased with the experience start to finish. If we do buy the house and do an addition, we will us McGinnis as our engineers.

Recent Review: Had Wes do a general inspection, as well as contractor for a gas  inspection.  Questions during and after the inspection were quickly answered - I emailed some random questions weeks after the inspection and I got a call back to answer my questions just hours later.  Given some potential structural issues, it was very helpful to have a structural engineer to look through everything and answer my random questions.

Kent Macpeek, their Sr. Structural Enginner came out and evaluated the master bedroom ceiling and a wall between the kitchen and den. The master bedroom ceiling was demolished except for the structural members. We want to install a peaked ceiling and Kent was knowledgeable about what we needed to do and in what sequence it had to follow. In addition, he reviewed the wall between the kitchen and the den because we want to demolish it and have a more open floor plan. He had an out of work architect do the drawings. The problem with Kent was that he never told us what this work would cost. I left several voice mails asking him for a cost. When he finally did get back to me, he said that if the work wasn't going to be near $1,000.00, because he would have let me know beforehand if it was, and that the work wasn't going to be "even near that amount". When I called the architect to get the completed price, he said that it was $937.50. I was very upset and called Kent right away. He gave me a big song and dance as to why the price escalated. Both my husband and I are engineers too and we estimated the cost to be between $300 and $500, not anything close to what it came to. I'm not complaining about the quality of the work, but I am stating that this was totally unprofessional of Kent and his engineering firm not to be up front as to the cost. I would never use them again.

They wanted way too much money for the little job that I wanted them to do. They did okay. They are a small, pretty much a one-man shop. I have not finished talking to them about stuff. I have some things to do on my house and they are going to come back. I already had them do some inspection. I just need to have a re-inspection on something. I have never really dealt with a structural engineering company before. My own knowledge of structural engineering is extremely limited so it is not like I knew what they were doing or what they should do. Their price is about average.

ALance's Landscaping, LLC
My husband and I met Lance when he was first starting "Lance's Landscaping." We were one of his first big jobs with a project that entailed replacing a very old and rotting wood retaining wall. The retaining wall runs the entire length of our driveway . . . up a hill which made it even more difficult. Oh, and it was also the end of November and coming into winter. Lance did an amazing job! Since the project impacted our driveway and the only way into our garage, Lance made sure he kept the work area organized and ensured we had access in and out on a daily basis. This sometimes meant moving heavy equipment around quite a bit. He also worked on the project in inclement weather to ensure it was completed on time.  Lance did such a great job we asked him to do another large retaining wall on the front of our home. Again, not only excellent work but outstanding service, too! Lance is always available to take a phone call to discuss the status and kept us abreast of any changes to the plan. We receive many compliments on our walls and have referred neighbors to him. Actually, it was his work that spoke for itself as neighbors would stop in and ask us who was doing our walls as they were driving by! I highly, highly, highly recommend Lance and already have plans for his next project at our home.  We love Lance!

Tom was professional, knowledgeable, and down-to-earth. He took measurements of our basement, noted the slight drop in the north wall, and checked the seams in the walls. He explained how the houses in the surrounding area were made and the difference between a problem resulting from a construction error vs. the natural give in walls due to external pressure from the surrounding clay. Tom answered all our questions at length, taking time to explain terms to us so that we really understood what to look for and how to deal with any possible problems in the future. After checking our basement, Tom took us outside to inspect the ground around the foundation and made some suggestions that will help us improve the drainage, thereby avoiding water seeping into the foundation. The best part was Tom's manner. He was personable, friendly, and explained everything in language that was easy to understand. He didn't just point out a problem - he told us what caused the problem and then explained how to fix it. Tom also presented us with a range of options regarding our drainage problem starting with the most effective method (and costliest) to a less effective one (but less costly). We were impressed with his knowledge and his ability to explain the problems in easy-to-understand language. We highly recommend Huneke Engineering to anyone in need of a structural engineer.
