Recent Review: We had a good experience with Brazilian Direct. They came in and got the job done. They weren't on their cell phones or running back and forth, wasting time. They worked really good as a team, together. They were responsive to what I wanted. They were prompt and exactly on time.

Recent Review: I am posting this review that other people can benefit from our experience.  We had our kitchen floor and counters replaced over a two-week period during which we were on vacation.  When we came home, we were thrilled that the project was finished, or so we thought.  We had to have them come back to finish fitting in the floor vents, which had been left loose on the floor and to trim and glue carpeting in place that had been pulled back.  Small stuff, we thought.  Then things went downhill.  We began to notice that there were problems.  The floor is not level.  (To save money, we committed to removing the old floor, which turned out to be more than we were able to accomplish.  Probably twenty percent of the old floor remained to be removed.)  We paid an additional $900 for this unexpected work.  Our fault on that.  No complaint on our part.  After several days, we began to notice other shortcomings. The cabinets had had to be removed to install the granite, but the guys who did the reinstall obviously rushed through the work, covering gaps between the wall and cabinet with improvised and odd pieces of wood.  Then we noticed that the backsplash tiles were curiously missing from behind the stove, leaving obvious spots where the old sheetrock was exposed.  On one side of the stove, the tile backsplash had been put in place, on the other side it had not.  We noticed that there is a crack in the countertop.  This is a bigger problem.  We don't want to replace the countertop, which would entail another big tear out.  We decided to live with it.  After all, we can't be sure that another piece of granite would match the pieces already there.  And then there are the gaps between the stone floor and the wood floor against which it butts.  That was easy to fix.  They squirted some caulk into the gap.  We can live with that, we said.  Before we agreed to have the Tile Superstore do the work, we got a commitment from Mr. Prigge that the installers would put up plastic barriers to minimize the dust getting into the rest of the house.  Our cleaning lady was a bit horrified when she arrived to tidy up before we got home.  It took her 24 hours to get a handle on the mess.  The plumber who removed and reinstalled the appliances also said he was surprised by the mess.  Finally, a neighbor who was picking up our mail while we were gone also claimed that the installers had not taken precautions.  When asked about this issue, we were told by Tile Superstore that all the cutting was done in the attached garage so they did not put up barriers.  On this point there is come  obfuscation on the part of the store.  I've been told that the barriers were not necessary, but three separate people who were in and out of the house while we were gone stated the opposite.  This seems a simple precaution.  Why would they not do it?  I have not gotten an answer to this simple question.  The response (or lack of response) has been cavalier.  Perhaps an apology on their part and an acknowledgement of their failure would make a difference, but perhaps their track record on this is to deny that there is a problem.  Finally, we will be doing more floor work, but we will not be doing business with Tile Superstore.

Recent Review: My first experience with Hamlen Home improvement was when I was getting quotes to build a new cedar deck (over 10 feet off the ground, so not an easy job). Of the 5 estimates I got for the job, I went with Hamlen Home Improvement because he was punctual, had great communication and was approachable during the estimate process, was enthusiastic about what he was going to create (passion for his trade), and his price was very competitive. Since that time I have hired Hamlen to complete a total of 4 major projects. The initial project of the deck was done on time, within budget, had a HIGH level of craftsmanship (it's beautiful!), and most importantly because there was ALWAYS constant communication throughout the project. Hamlen Home Improvement WILL involve you in the project as much as you desire, will check with every decision before a 'cut is made', and will make sure you know of any necessary changes or obstacles (that come up any time you deal with construction/remodeling). He truly wants you to be happy with the end result, and takes a lot of pride in the work he does. I have had Hamlen Home Improvement complete the following projects on my house/property due to my high satisfaction, and I have been nothing but impressed and satisfied with each project: -Cedar Deck -6' Custom Wood Fence (I designed what I wanted, and he built it from scratch!) -Retaining wall -Installation of Drainage Tile -Complete basement finishing: 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, living room, hallway and storage area. I will touch on the basement finishing, as this was by far the biggest and most impressive work he did for me. Hamlen Home Improvement handled every aspect of this project, and even though he hired other professionals that were experts of specific areas (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, fireplace and stone mason), he was ALWAYS the one that dealt with them and held them to the same high standard of work that he holds himself to. I did not have to stress or worry about the subcontractors, because Hamlen knew his subs well, and was always keeping the communication lines open with me regarding scheduling, foreseeable issues, and general confirmation of design/construction choices. I was never worried about how something would turn out, because a conversation always took place to make sure we were on the same page. The final basement was extremely high quality, everything from wood floors to custom shelving to the inside of closets....It was ALL high quality and great looking! Every project I have done through Hamlen Home Improvement was done on time, cost came in very close to the estimate (and any changes I was well aware of prior to receiving the final bill), and I was left extremely satisfied. I believe that I have continued to return to Hamlen shows that more than I can say. I have also recommended Hamlen Home Improvement to numerous friends, family and neighbors, and I have heard the same positive response from them. One final testament to the quality of work: We put our house on the market (the one where all of the Hamlen Home Improvement work was done), and sold the house in under 3 months. In our price range there was over 80 homes for sale for a similar price, and of course the housing market is still down. The fact that we sold our house so quickly, and for FULL listing price, is definitely due to the work Hamlen Home Improvement put into it. We look forward to using them in the future on our new house!

Recent Review: The salesperson was able to come to the house, discuss options, take measurements, show us samples, and arrange delivery and installation within days. This was very time-efficient for us and a huge help for working around our busy schedules. They were extremely responsive to any concerns or questions that came up during the process. However, in the end, it turned out there was an inaccuracy in the measurements and insufficient flooring had been ordered, so that the installation had to be paused for several days while the remaining material was ordered and delivered. That said, the installers did an exceptional job otherwise.

Reviews in Stewartville for Installing Hardwood Floors

ACreative Hardwood Floors Inc
My husband is the picky detail oriented one and I'm Mrs. get-er-done. We wanted solid hardwood rather than prefinished since it can be refinished many times and no micro-bevels inbetween the slats. The choices and quality of flooring at Creative Hardwood Flooring, and the knowledge, experience and patience of the sales team and installers more than met our needs. We had the flooring in the master done at a later date so we didn't have to move as much furniture at once. They were able to complete both jobs inbetween 2 rounds of house guests, and were even able to move the second install up by a week. The hickory looks beautiful and we've had many compliments already. Thanks Creative!

AAL'S CONSTRUCTION
Well, here it is... I found Al’s Home Services in the available installation contractors lists provided by Menards. Every time I see that list I think “Scammers”, because Menards assures you that they are not liable and you assume all the risk picking one of them. Well, I happened to call Al’s Home Services, spoke to a guy named Al, and wouldn’t you know it, Al was also the guy to come out and do my estimate (originally for pet proof laminate or manufactured wood) Our discussion about the project helped me win over my wife for hardwood vs. laminate or mfg wood... Especially in dollars, believe it or not, which really surprised me...! Delighted actually...! Who’da thought... Keep in mind, the whole time I am thinking: “Maybe once I pay this guy money, I will never see him again.” He was just too nice and too good to be true. - (Compared to in my experience with big companies in which you call a receptionist, who transfers you to a salesman, who takes your information to an estimator, who has the service manager call you, who then sends you a crew fresh off the boat or over the Rio Grand, who you know you better stay home and keep an eye on...) The day work began, I had to be at work and so did my wife as well. I gave Al access to my security system and put cameras out in private areas for my protection (and for his). Some were visible, some not so much... Weather or not he and his people saw them and knew, I cannot know. But as I could tell anyway, it was unnecessary. This is where I tell you how Al is not just the receptionist, sales lead, and service manager... He is also the crew supervisor... They came in and were all business, right to work, and like it was nothing... They only touched things necessary to the project. I have worked with people calling themselves carpenters before, but Al just works like he could do his work (and theirs) with a blindfold and one arm... I give him an A++ for his easy explanations of - what and why and how - needed to be done. Not one sign of condescending tone or look with a single one of my many questions... The man is patient and slow spoken to give you a chance to comprehend. (And if you still don’t understand, he’ll say: Don’t worry about it... It will look good when I am done.) And he was right... What a relief it was when I saw it was actually him and people he knows doing the work... (one of which was his dad). Shawn, (or maybe Sean) was his installer, he was fast and accurate with every board, and literally nothing can distract him as he works... Two days for a hallway with two closets and a living room... It’s a lot of work, well done. So the work went well, and fast... Two days and installation was done, by the weekend the sander was in. (If you ever do installation of hardwood, this will be the hardest part to recover from. But well worth it in the end.) From the beginning, my only complaint was in trying to get in touch with Al in a timely quick manner... However, like I said, he is the company, and manager who actually does work at job sites... So Ya, I get the fact he’s a busy guy, just leave a message and wait... (patiently) He’ll get back to you when he puts down his hammer and nails. Once the work began, it seemed like my call was much quicker to be answered, which I appreciated...

AKobey's Hardwood Flooring
It went great. The owner of Kobey's Hardwood Flooring gave us the estimate and did all the work himself. He was prompt, courteous, approachable and professional. He was able to do a thorough job without removing the baseboards, used a finish that dried quickly with less fumes and used ventilation to keep the sanding dust contained to the affected rooms. He matched the existing stain beautifully. We have had many compliments on his work and would highly recommend Kobey's Hardwood Flooring to anyone.

They are wonderful. They are really competitive in pricing and they do a beautiful job. The entire process took 4 days since there is some drying time involved. Right from the craftmanship to the people they sent out for work, everything would be an A.

Very pleased with the flooring and the installation. We chose a layout pattern that required more than the usual skill and effort, and are very pleased with the results. We were less pleased with the responsiveness and communication skills of the sales rep, who was not very pro-active in contacting us during the planning, and didn't actually consult us on setting an install date (3 days work) before scheduling it. Also, the receptionist directed one of my calls to voicemail without informing me that the sales rep was on vacation for a week, or giving me the chance to talk to someone who was actually available.

They were very respectful. I had them come two years ago and do an estimate because I thought I was going to do my floor then. Then I called them back a year and a half later and asked them to come for another estimate telling them they had already been here and they said sure, we'll come back. I thought that was really nice. They were on-time and I liked everything about them. They started 7:30 in the morning and worked extremely efficiently and competently. He really knew what he was doing and worked the whole time while he was here.

I call the office the set up an appointment for an estimate. The owner Jim came over to give us the estimate. He explained the process and took measurements. We received his bid the next day by e-mail. I called the office to schedule and was told what week they would be able to do my floors. On the day the refinishing started two workers showed up and sanded the floor and prepped it for stain. They gave me 3 different options to look at based on what we had takes about before hand. I choose the nutmeg color. They put on the stain and waited for it to dry and they put on the first coat of poly. The next morning they same two guys returned and put on the second coat. They told me when I could walk on the floor and to wait a certain number of days before placing furniture back on the floors. I was required to put 1/2 down to start the job and 1/2 after completion. I received care instruction in the mail with my final bill and you can call their secretary over the phone to pay by credit card. They did a great job and my floors look amazing since they where completely worn to start with. The guys forgot to put pegs in the old cable holes and one section of the bedroom close to the far wall felt ruff so Tony (one of the partners) came over and measured the holes for pegs and fixed the area of the floor that felt ruff. He returned a day later with the pegs and installed them and told he to call if I had any issues.

Excellent experience! John Hofschulte worked us in quickly so we could get our house on the market. He came right at the scheduled time for the estimate and both days for the work. He did a beautiful job and left no mess whatsoever. All for $333. You can't beat these family businesses from small towns! It is almost unbelievable what he accomplished with our floor!

The experience was excellent they helped me choose the unquie style of hardwood I was looking for. They showed me several different price ranges for the wood. When it cam time for the installation their work was very professional and done within a very timely matter. I am very pleased with their pricing and their wonderful customer service. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to have their hardwood floors installed or refinished!
