Recent Review: From the beginning, Mickey was a pleasure to work with.  His communication was excellent with very quick responses throughout all phases of the project.  As described above, the project required a near complete gutting and remodel of a split home lower level, and therefore required coordination with several subs.  At the onset of the project, Mickey laid out a detailed day by day schedule all the way through project completion which was about an 8 week duration.  Looking back at the project, the schedule was hit with almost 100% accuracy on each day planned in the schedule. It was desired to have some minor layout changes to a couple of the walls, and also bath sink and toilet locations in order to make more efficient use of the space.  Mickey presented ideas and provided detailed drawings for the proposed layouts.  The end result was excellent and I am very happy with the changes made. The quality of materials and workmanship was excellent throughout, with a fine attention to detail.  There were a pair of unforeseen small additional expenses after the original proposal which only became apparent after the demolition, and both were well justified.  A window replacement was added mid-project and integrated well into the original plan.  In addition, an unrelated update to a garage utility door was added and completed without affecting any schedules.  Other minor changes were all handled smoothly and quickly. All in all, I am very satisfied with the results and would be happy to do business with Mickey again in the future.  He takes pride in his work, and is someone I feel you can trust to be fair and honest.

Recent Review: Wanted to finish basement and eliminate the remaining 10 percent of water issues. Found their website and looked at all the 3 minute videos which was informative. Contacted them by phone and a packet with their services listed arrived shortly after with more info. Had a company rep, Tom, come to the house and take measurements, inspect the basement for what they had to do. Very professional, represented the company well. Price was lower than what I had estimated and received discount for preferred payment option. 3 man crew arrived right on time, worked hard, only taking break for lunch that we gave them. Entire job done in about 8 hours. I was very pleased and impressed. This was in December 2016. They advised that since the ground was frozen, they'd have to come back in spring to finish the outside underground portion. In May 2017 representative contacted me to arrange a date. A different crew arrived on time, finished in about 2 hours. Very professional.

Recent Review: Liebenow Waterproofing's bid was 40% cheaper than some of the big waterproofing companies, and he has a far superior product, that's more customized for the job. The following was performed: o Removed all sheetrock and debris from the partially finished basement o Cleaned all remaining wall and studs, removing all mold and mildew. o Removed existing failing sump baskets and drain tile. o Installed a moisture barrier behind the studs o Installed two new sumps and drain tile around the perimeter BELOW the wall footings. o Installed two discharge pipes into my street storm sewer and into a ditch behind my property o Fed my gutter downspouts into the drainage system. o Dug out and replaced my window wells and installed window covers. o Cleaned everything up. Amazingly, he was able to install the entire system without tearing out the perimeter stud wall. He has a small crew, but they spent a lot of time customizing the project to suit our needs. Lots of manual labor was involved. It took about 10 days to complete. I couldn't be happier with the result.

Recent Review: I had put off finishing the basement for several years, mainly due to the inability to get a good design that would work and provide good size rooms and good placement of the hallway. The key inhibitor was that with the initial build of the home, the bathroom plumbing was in a bad location. Dave Derby was able to quickly work up a design that moved the bathroom, and provided options for the layout of the entire basement. Dave initially provided a more high end design with a higher price than I wanted. But, by working with Dave, I was able to make some tradeoffs, achieve the basement I wanted that fit with the rest of my home and at a reasonable price. Overall, the project took about 7 weeks to complete, about 2 weeks longer than the initial estimate. However, some of the time was waiting for the next subcontractor to be available, and also due to the extreme cold and waiting for a good day to dig the window well for the egress window. I am very happy with the results. We have a large, finished basement that now provides a nice place to relax and to spend time together as a family. The quality of the workmanship was excellent. Dave has some very talented people who work for him as well as having very good working relationships with the subcontractors he uses. This results in a cohesive team working together to get the project done in a professional manner. Derby Construction strengths: project design, ability to scale up or down to fit your needs, quality of work, quality of employees and subcontractors. The only suggestions I would make are to get a list at the beginning of the project for the decisions you need to make (fixtures, cabinets, paint, carpet, etc) and when they are needed, and to have a pre-defined payment schedule. This will provide you and the contractor a pre-defined schedule that both of you can work to.
