Recent Review: After seeing their product at the Minneapolis Home & Garden show we were convinced that this was the right product for our porch improvement work. The guys from EZ-Screen brought samples to our home to help us select frame color and installation method. They took careful measurements of all of the window and door openings and put our order in motion. A few weeks later our windows and door were delivered. We did this work at the same time we had some exterior siding work done by another contractor. We arranged to have that contractor do the actual installation of the EZ-Screen product. The rep from EZ-Screen came out to our site when the installation started to ensure that our contractor understood how to properly install the windows and door. Everything went smoothly and contractor commented on how easy the windows went in. After three full seasons of use we still enjoy the product and we're pleased that we chose this as part of our porch renovation. It has added several additional months to our porch usage in our short Minnesota summer seasons. I highly recommend this product for any new screen porch or porch renovation job!

Recent Review: Lon was very receptive to my ideas of how I wanted the wrap around porch to look and did a great job. We had many people in town stopping by to find out who was doing the work and Lon got a few more jobs from it which is a good indicator of a job well done. I would definitely use Raven Builders again!

Recent Review: I got 3 quotes for the job. Donovan responded to me in a timely manner; offered the best solution. Two of the installers wanted to put a new and quot;tin ceilingand quot; on the porch; Donovan had the ceiling boards matched perfectly by his vendor. You cannot tell that the ceiling was repaired. In addition, he repaired the wood floor, ripped out the plywood covering a large space and put replacement boards in. Then painted the entire enclosed porch. Even repaired the door to the porch which has settled some so that I can close the door appropriately. He later attached a hanger for me...even brought special screws not included in the original package so that it would be secure. He and the staff that worked on the project were professional, courteous and competent. As such I have used them over the past several years for numerous other projects.

Recent Review: Other than the power-washer failing immediately and the spindles getting back-ordered, almost everything went without a hitch. We had dry, warm weather so there were no weather delays. Trevor does have a small challenge in getting the quotes in a form that makes sense. We just received (10/12/2011) the final bill which included the Front Porch Railing and spindles and the final charges for stain/paint/cleaner as well as the few extra hours of outside wood cleaning/power-washing that was needed to prepare the wood for painting.

Recent Review: I had trouble finding a good fence person; a neighbor gave me Jim Siebenaler's name, telling me she is very happy with various projects he has undertaken at her house. He came over, listened to what I wanted, basically said "No problem", which is *not* what I had heard from others. He built exactly what I wanted. He even had a landscaping idea that is terrific and pulled down part of his new fence to accommodate the landscaper. Every "Can you do this?" is met with "Sure." And he does. Very talented, patient, knowledgable, experienced. The fence is great, as are the other building improvements Jim has done. I will update this review as more work is done. We are planning to remove carpet and lay tile, to gut the kitchen and remodel, and some other large projects. I have already recommended Jim to friends and family, and will continue to do so. I hesitated writing this review because I fear he won't have time for my projects! He is really good. Mudd Bros extended a window well into a sunken garden, Jim turned it into a beauty with cedar tongue-and-groove cladding, and steps on each side. The steps are different widths because the cement is different widths -- truly custom-made and lovely. Latest project: expanding a bath from small, pink-painted asbestos walls to gorgeous tile, stone floor, Universal Design aspects (safety). This project has been a challenge, transitioning from a very poorly-designed area to a pretty and user-friendly design. It has involved (with others on the project) moving the shower drain, figuring ways around tricky, poorly laid-out ducting, pipes that shouldn't have been exposed originally and more. Jim is patient and persistent. Jim also, over a couple of days, transformed a room at my son's house into a nursery, my son and his wife are delighted. Update, May 2013 A number of things have got in the way of my letting JSC finish the interior, but the work he has done in the times he has been here impress me a lot. I have partially demolished a very-beautifully built mid-century house, marveling at the rabbetting, dovetail, pegs, etc. I have come to see that Jim's work matches or exceeds those standards. He solves problems easily, and this house has a lot of problems. It makes the whole production pleasant. Thanks, JCS!

Trevor was here when he said he would be. All staining/sanding/touch-up was completed in one day. A second coat of stain was applied on the front porch railing two days later. The metal spindles were re-attached two days later.

AHAMLEN HOME IMPROVEMENT
Perfect job, on time, as estimated, no surprises. Trevor is our "Go to guy" for all home repair tasks. Some small, some big.

AJim Siebenaler Construction
You should hire Jim Siebenaler Construction!  The front porch of our 1925 house was falling apart.  The support posts were so rotted and water damaged that it's a miracle the roof hadn't caved in.  The floorboards were in even worse shape than the posts.  Jim was precisely on time to look at the job.  He understood that we wanted to keep the porch as close to original as possible.  He immediately offered solutions and promised an estimate via email that evening, which we received.   The estimate was much more reasonable than another one we'd been given.  Jim was at work on the front porch in less than  three weeks and finished the project in two days.  It's not easy to find a contractor who is punctual, professional, cost-conscious, and takes pride in doing high quality work.  He even repaired a hole in the clapboard siding on the second story of our house for no charge.  My only concern with giving Jim Siebenaler Construction an excellent review is that he'll be too busy to find time to work on the other jobs we've got in mind for him.

AJim Siebenaler Construction
He shows up on time, has terrific sub-contractors who show up and are polite, they all explain what they are doing and allow me input, no communication problems, which I highly value. The work winds up better than I asked for or expected. The pergola had to match exactly an old one, to keep the somewhat historic house community-friendly. It is perfect. The old porch columns were so bad I could kick them out (but waited for braces to be in place). Jim had the new ones in in a flash. That is part of the charm of working with JCS, things get done before you know they've started. The wall in the basement -- probably not very difficult, I don't know, but in a spot that needed it and I hadn't thought of it, Jim did. He is a very good problem-solver. I keep thinking I am underpaying him, which is quite pleasant, really. I can't comment much on the main house interior wall yet, it's a big project involving ductwork and electrical lines. Also, Jim is utterly adorable.

CHAMLEN HOME IMPROVEMENT
We chose Hamlen Home Repair because Trevor Hamlen had just finished a small front porch on a nearby home. His truck advertised "Building, Remodeling, and Restoration Services" along with decks, floors, roofs, electrical, plumbing, landscaping, and painting. Our 1915 home was in great need of either paint or siding. We chose paint to preserve the character of the house and because Trevor assured us that new paints on the market would hold for many years to come. We chose to go with the top one he recommended at $48/gallon for 15 gallons, making the paint alone $720. We did enjoy interacting with Trevor personally, but ultimately, we came to realize that he tended to either over promise what he could deliver or didn't hold the same standards for quality work that we did. The things that most disappointed us were that he spray painted rather than hand painted the house (we neither asked nor understood the difference at the time), he had promised that no paint would get on any of the windows and later we spent many hours scraping off a haze of paint, and he said that everything would be cleaned up and left in excellent shape, which it wasn't. We were more than willing to do whatever we could to help, including scraping (although we weren't very good at it) but we also found ourselvesncleaning up scraped paint, restacking old lumber, retaping plastic on windows, cleaning up nails, and in general, keeping things as organized as we would have liked them to be. This was very important because we have a business in the home and customers coming and going. Although the paint is of excellent quality and overall is standing up to the weather, we still have had some peeling in places where water had saturated the old boards and had not been treated properly before painting. We discovered this later when we hired a different painter to do the repairs. Lastly, the painting and rebuilding of the porch took much longer than we were told because of health issues in the Hamlen family. We were understanding of this but it seemed to happen on a more frequent basis than we would have anticipated. We shared our concerns with Trevor in writing at the end. He wrote back with genuine concern, which we appreciated. Perhaps the stumbling block in all this is that Trevor often said that he "strives for perfection" in his work. There is, of course, no one who can deliver this and no two people who have the same definition for it. More knowledge of fine old lumber--how to clean, prime, and carefully paint it--was what we NOW know that we needed
