Recent Review: Like many Minnesotans, we had water in our basement this spring. For a few years, we knew we had a problem but it wasn't a big problem until this year, when there was an enormous amount of ice on the north side of the house. We knew part, if not most, of the remedy would be to replace the sidewalk ? it meets the house and tilted toward the house ? and also our side stairs which were crumbling, cracking and also listing toward the house. We were aware that having a new sidewalk and stairs would be a part of the remedy and that we would need to do some landscaping in that area as well. I searched Angie's list and chose 3 companies. Mark, from J & M, met me at the house, took a look not only at the sidewalk but also inside. J & M does waterproofing as well as concrete work. I inquired about the waterproofing and he explained how that process worked. I appreciated not only the information but that he did not pressure me to do the waterproofing. In face, he encouraged replacing the cement first and seeing if that remedied the problem. Joan called and let me know that the work would begin on Friday, May 10 and they would finish on Monday, May 13. The morning of May 10, Mark showed up first, went over what they were going to do and answered any questions I had. His crew showed up and went to work. They were polite, efficient and did a great job. On Monday, May 13 the crew was here at 7:15, they got going and the cement truck came at 8:00. I cannot say enough good things about our experience with J & M and would recommend them highly to anyone needing concrete work.

Recent Review: Late to start with. Did not have the required amount of concrete so had to pay an additional amount of money that was not included in the estimate. He is in the concrete business and should know the required minumum of concrete for delivery. Explained he would take care of old concrete in estimate. I had to pay additional money for the concrete to be hauled away. Did not give me a final breakdown of the total bill. Asked for it many times. After a year he has not finished the job cutting the concrete. Had to have another concrete person come in to cut concrete. Additional cost to me. I would not recommend this person. His professionalism and business ethics is very questionable.

Recent Review: I approached several contractors for estimates. Mr Padilla from U.S. Construction not only gave me the lowest bid, he was also the most responsive, punctual, and professional of all the contractors I dealt with. He had excellent suggestions for making the project better. The crew arrived on time. They were neat, polite, and efficient. The whole job was completed in one day, which impressed all of my neighbors (a similar job on the same block had taken three days). They hauled everything away and cleaned up after themselves, not only on my property but on the street as well. U.S. Construction Group was a pleasure to deal with from start to finish and I would be happy to use them again.

Mr. Jan's was about an hour late to start with on August 2, 2012.  He preceded to remove the bad  sidewalk sections and while doing this he tore the h*** out of my yard that I have been working so hard to keep nice.  I stopped him and explained to him to only go on the boulevard so he would not tear up additional yardage.  He then stayed on the boulevard and removed the rest of the bad sidewalk sections.  I ended up having to get dirt and seed (my cost) to fix the damaged yard.   If I was to help him (which I did), this would help cut the total cost of the bill which was expalined in his estimate.  The concrete truck came and I had to pay an additional $75.00 as the minumum load of concrete was not met.   I felt, as he is in the business of concrete, he should have known this and had this on the estimate.  In his estimate he expalined he would pay for hauling away the concrete that was replaced.  I had to pay again, an additional $70.00 to a hauler to do this.   He gave me the final bill for the job and explained he would come back and cut the concrete into sections.  It has been over a year and he has not come to do this task.  I had a diferent contractor come in on September 6, 2013 to do this task and pay for his service.  I also have asked Mr. Michael Jans to give me an itemized bill showing how he came up with the final amout.  He has not done this through repeated text messages in the past year.  If he had done this, I feel alot of the problems could of been taken care of. I would not have Michael Jans do work for me again because of my experience with him.  I question his business ethics and professionalism.  I should have kept $100.00 from the total payment to him until the job was completed.  Lesson learned!

They were extremely professional in the course of their work and as a rare bonus (as far contractors go) they came in on budget. Many of the other contractors working on the build would look for any excuse to cause cost over-runs -- even if they deliberately caused the cost overruns -- but that never happened with Cole's.

I WOULD SKIP THE CLEAR COAT FINISH IF I COULD DO IT OVER. GET THEM TO GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL LOOK UNIFORM IF THEY DO APPLY IT. THEY RE-DID MY FINISH AND IT DIDN'T LOOK ANY BETTER SO THEY DROPPED OFF SOME CLEAR COAT AND NOW I'LL TRY TO FIX IT MYSELF, WHICH I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DO AFTER SPENDING $1800.

pleasant rep for estimate. estimate about same as major name co. major problem was timing. promised w/in two days of signing contract work was not completed for 3 weeks. they didn't call to advise of delays, and were still not on top of communication after I complained. work was adequate but did not include the expansion joints I was promised. site safety and cleanup excellent.
