Scot was prompt to respond to my initial inquiry, presented a professional quote (and receipt afterward) and showed up exactly when he said he would. The work he did was top quality and very reasonably priced. I felt very safe having Scot in my home and would definitely hire him again.

The gentlemen who performed the installation were punctual, courteous and professional. They did an excellent job of clean-up when finished, and made sure that I was shown how to work the windows for cleaning, and how to set the stops for limiting the opening of the windows. In my case, one window was missing in the original delivery, and a second visit was required to complete the work. The first installation was on a Saturday, but the second was a week/work day, and again the installers were on time, and done in a timely fashion, including a small cosmetic fix not done on a previous job, for which I was not charged, allowing me to take a minimum of unscheduled time from work. In addition, All-Star's office staff is always friendly and courteous when I call. Be prepared, guys, I will be calling you again!

We originally thought we were going to install drywall throughout the mudroom. However, after demo of one wall, we discovered beautiful barn wood underneath the siding. Decided we wanted to preserve this rare and authentic look. Randy was more than understanding about our last minute change in remodeling plans. Realigned the barn wood and made sure everything was perfect. Quality work, on time and on budget; conscientious; great communication; courteous and careful with homeowner's property; excellent work ethic. And his attention to detail was impressive. Definitely will ask Randy to help us with our next project.

Overall, working with Jeff was the worst experience of my 7 years of home ownership.  I hired Jeff and his crew to install drywall in my living room, dining room, kitchen, hall, and a bathroom, paint, replace doors, convert two toilets from wall mounted to standard pedestal units, install a new bathtub, tile the remodeled bathroom, add a shelf over the kitchen sink and blend it into the window sill, repaint existing window frames and install trim around everything new.  For this Jeff had originally estimated $13,250.  Out of all of the tasks involved only two were completed satisfactorily the first time and both of those jobs were subcontracted out.  Everything else either took two or more tries to get close to right or didn’t get fixed at all before I fired Jeff and cut my losses.  I ended up paying Jeff a total of $11507.50 and still feel as though I got ripped off. A few general tips for Jeff and some of his crew: 1.      If it looks like a 7 year-old did it I’m not paying top dollar for it.  My kitchen shelf still looks like a raw piece of wood.  Sanding to a smooth finish is a good thing.  So is filling in screw and nail holes (more on that later). 2.      Doors that are within inches of each other should be installed at the same height.  Not off by a ½”.  3.      Interior doors should be installed after the floors.  Beating on the edge of laminate floor to get it under a door does not work.  The boards don’t tend to stay together after the locking tabs are ripped off. 4.      Nailing shoe through a floating laminate floor does not work.  My new floor looks very poor in several places because it buckled due to the shoe being nailed through it.  It took me a couple of weeks to figure out that they had made that big of a mistake.  Now I have to replace all of the shoe that I had paid them to put in. 5.      Nail holes should be filled with a non-shrinking filler.  Not whatever filler you have rolling around in your truck.  Here’s the latest thing.  It’s called spackle.  Try it. 6.      Installed trim should have the nail holes filled prior to applying 3 coats of paint. 7.      Trim does not need 6 coats of paint (2 prior to installation, 3 prior to filling the nail holes with filler that shrinks, 1 after filling the nail holes with filler that shrinks).  I’ll be adding a 7th after I fill the nail holes properly. 8.      Excess paint should be removed from window glass.  Masking tape usually helps minimize the amount of clean up necessary. 9.      Scraping or scuffing previously painted or stained wood helps new paint adhere.  I know it takes about 5 minutes to scrape a window frame but it’s well worth the time to do it right. 10.    Applying sufficient primer to new drywall seals it and prevents the paper texture of the drywall from showing through.  You can check my kitchen ceiling for proof. 11.    Sill plates on exterior doors should have a thick layer of silicone applied between the sill and the house frame before installation and not have expanding foam insulation sprayed in afterward.  I got that tidbit from this new thing called the internet.  You can even watch videos of real professionals doing it. I understand some of these items are somewhat technical but others are just common sense and these are supposed to be professionals.  When the job was “done” Jeff couldn’t even be bothered to come out and walk through it with me.  He just sent me a final invoice for $3510 (I had already paid him $10,000) and that was it. Anyone who is considering hiring Jeff should reconsider.  You’ll get nothing but hack work and excuses.  I’m still trying to repair my house a month and a half after I paid him to never set foot in it again.
