Recent Review: Able to schedule and have work done in rapid fashion and same day as initial encounter, though price was a bit high, but given the timing and work completion for the same day was willing to pay.

Recent Review: It went very well!  I had purchased an offer through Angie's List that was for two hours of handyman service because I wanted to get dog doors installed in our new house.  Al contacted me within 24 hours of my purchasing the offer, scheduled the appointment and showed up promptly.  He is a professional individual with a very pleasant, easy-going personality.  When he finished installing the doors, I asked him if he could attend to a couple of additional minor matters and he was very agreeable.  I will definitely hire him again for various repairs that we need in our new home. And my dog liked him too!

Recent Review: It went rather well.  If you've ever done an addition on your house you know there are always snags.  Gary, the owner, was always there to listen, think about what I wanted done and offer advice and solutions.  They worked through the coldest winter we've had in years and I am very happy with the results.  His attention to detail and my preference is excellent.  One of my requirements was a cat door for both the window door and the screen door.  Gary delivered brilliantly and had them custom made.  I get many compliments on the porch, especially the quality and solid construction.

Recent Review: Mark's team was very conscientious, professional and thorough throughout the project. They did a great job from tear down to completion to removing construction debris. In the few instances where everything wasn't exactly as I expected, ex. dog door was a bit too high, they re-did the work and made it right. I was so pleased with their work that I also added in re-wiring the garage and adding two new door openers. I can't say enough of how pleased I am to have such a large task completed well.

Recent Review: I chose Jen Czach because of the good reviews I found on Angie's List.  This is my third whole house remodel, so I know the importance of finding a general contractor who you can trust with your home and your money.  Jen understood that we had a deadline to move-in, and she met it.  She handled scheduling all the subcontractors.  With all remodeling jobs, there are a few changes and bumps as you go along, but Jen was able to roll with them all.  When we had changes to the plan, I completely trusted her when she would tell me what the price difference would be.  We were difficult to work with because we are very particular about the design and we were in a rush so she didn't have much pre-planning time.  I could tell that our requests got to her at times when the frustration showed in her voice, but she always came through with the work.  I commend her for that.  I highly recommend Jen Czach.

He did a good job. I have no complaints at all. The price was good. With regard to responsiveness, he was quick. With regard to punctuality, he came on time. With regard to professionalism, I had no problems at all. I would not use him again in the future because I called him up for another job and he never returned my phone call.

He was fine. It went well. His prices were high. I probably wouldn't hire him again because of the price.

DMr. Handyman of Bloomfield/Birmingham
Didn't go well at all! I don't like to write less than wonderful reviews, but others need to know that, despite many great experiences other have apparently had with Mr Handyman (based on the Angie's List reviews), my experience was unprofessional and unacceptable. I will NOT be hiring them again. I hired them to do three things: install a dog door in the wall, fix a wobbly stair railing, and fix the doorbell that only rings intermittently. First, the handyman who came out told me it wasn't possible to fix the stair railing because it had been installed sloppily, and fixing it would require all kinds of Herculean things and just wasn't really doable. Which seemed kind of hard to believe. Then, he showed me how the dog door I'd bought wouldn't work, because our wall is only 4" deep and the door I'd bought was for a 6" deep wall. This didn't sound right to me, either; I'd done a lot of research before buying this door, and there was never a mention anywhere of needing to know the wall depth prior to purchasing. Because this whole thing didn't seem right, I went online to do a little research of my own while he was working on the doorbell (which did get done), where I found many videos and instructions on how to easily fix a stair rail, as well as videos with detailed steps on how to install my exact dog door in the wall--and one of those steps is to cut the wall piece to fit your depth of wall if it isn't 6" (in other words, the door I bought was fine; it just required a step he didn't know how to do or couldn't do). I could have told him about these instructions/videos, but I'm not interested in someone learning how to do their job in my house. I hire them specifically because they're supposed to be professionals! So I just said, OK, if you can't do it, you can't do it. At the end, he told me the total would be their minimum (which I had agreed to) of the $48 service call fee plus the $91 per hour rate. I told him I wasn't comfortable paying all that, since all he'd gotten done was reinstalling a doorbell. Based on my reluctance to pay the full amount, he agreed I should call the owner, Tom. So I immediately called Tom, and let him know that I understood this did take an hour of their time and I wanted to be fair, but given what happened, paying the full amount really wasn't reasonable. His response was that their minimum was one hour, which was the $48 plus $91, and that's what I needed to pay. (I guess I'm naive, but I was really surprised; any company worth their salt would have apologized for the problems they caused me and tried to work something out. And to be clear, I wasn't at all angry or hostile on the phone.) So I pointed out that I would assume that meant an hour of WORK done. He then very reluctantly asked if I would pay $75. I didn't really think that was a fair result--after all, my time had been wasted, as well, and virtually nothing had gotten done--and I certainly wouldn't have called them out just to do a tiny job like the doorbell, so the hour of their wasted time wasn't my fault. However, I won't waste my time with arguments over things like this, so I just agreed to pay the $75, and did so. After the handyman left, I called Tom back to explain the situation more fully, which had been awkward to do while the handyman was right there. I thought he should know that it was obvious that this man should have been able to do these things. However, Tom wouldn't let me talk, and wouldn't listen to a word I said. He told me I had bought the wrong dog door for our house, and that the stair rail simply couldn't be fixed. He insisted that the handyman he'd sent was an expert who had built 130 houses. I was in the middle of saying I hadn't called to argue with him but to just explain, and he hung up on me! Yes, he hung up. And that was the end of our interaction. Not an impressive experience. No more Mr Handyman for this household.
