Review for Interlochen Master Bathroom Remodeling

I had to pay for the tle, but Scot Marshall provided all labor and materials other than the tile for the $2,080.00 price. Room walls were not as straight as should have been, so he compromised the inperfections of the wavy walls and it looks perfect! He and his helper Jason took time to prep the floors with runners from the garage through the kitchen and up the stairs through the hall and through the master bedroom. They removed and cleaned up as they went. They did not do any damage to walls or floors. They hauled away all the debris upon completion. Considering all of the contractors I have had in Traverse City, he is the best I have ever had. I got three estimates. Scot, immediately upon meeting me at the door, handed me a business card and said he was licensed and insured. It says so also on his card with license number. After initially reviewing the job, he sent me a contract the next day with all the details of the job and the price. that was very impressive and I felt very confident I had some clout in case of a problem later. I tweeked a couple of items on the contract and he was fine with some minor changes as I am a detail freak. The second contractor gave no contract at all, only over the phone, never said he was insured or licensed. Although he probably was, I was not impressed with lack of professionalism. The third contractor did give a somewhat detailed description, but no contract, only the job list, also no offering of license number. Also he did not spend hardly any time viewing the project in the first place. So, it was an easy decision. I would highly recommend Scot Marshall of Mission Peninsula Construction 231-392-1079. Oh and also, he returns phone calls and text messages very promptly the same day. That is unusual for contractors especially in Traverse City.

Peter and Brian remodeled our master bathroom.  They did a fantastic job with the design and all of the cabinet installation/carpentry and we were extremely pleased with all of their subcontractors.  They were all masters of their respective trades and very professional.  They showed up when promised and kept us informed throughout the process.  They did a terrific job responding to our need to retrofit the current space, accommodated our proposed changes and were very attentive to detail.  We are very happy with our remodeled space.

Lon and his staff were a pleasure to work with- very professional and responsive to all our "by the way" requests and suggestions. Lon had several helpful suggestions for modifications along the way. The whole job turned out spectacularly and we are thrilled!

I couldn't be more pleased.  Joe worked with us on every step of the remodel.  This was the 6th time we hired him to do work for us.  He has built us a deck, replaced a sliding glass door, repaired damaged wood, installed wood flooring and various finish work within our home.   His estimate was all inclusive.  He pulls all necessary permits.  Joe keeps a clean worksite.  I am perfectly confident that the job and materials are the best.  He is our go to builder.

Demolition of floors was extremely messy.  The family room was extremely dirty left mortar on almost brand new carpet for five days even after asking Scott to have his employees to clean it up. We had to clean it up ourselves and they  showed us very little respect. I did demand that his employees clean better after this which they did. The time it took to do the work was extremely slow and there were many days that no one showed up.  There were weeks that Scott never showed up at all until we called him to come and fix things that were not done correctly.  The tile jobs not professionally done. My husband and I thought that Scott was going to do the tile work after showing us pictures of his work.  He had other people do the tile and it was not done professionally.  The only tile work that was done well was the tile work that Scott did on the kitchen backsplash. The painting was not done as well as it should have been.  We had to go behind his employees and make lists to get many things fixed or completed correctly.  They cut as many corners as possible. They did fix things if we insisted but we felt like babysitters going behind them and checking every little thing they did. We felt that should be Scotts job he was the contractor. We paid in advance and that was all he seemed to care about was getting his money. The last day he was here he couldn't wait to get paid and leave.

AKrause & Whitehouse
This was my first experience with a contractor on a larger job and it went very well and the results were excellent. Krause & Whitehouse were prompt, professional and responsive to my questions and requests. The work was completed timely and with minimal disruption to my household. They always cleaned up upon completion of each day's work. The work was generally done with only three people with limited use of other contractors (granite supplier and shower door supplier). And very important to me, I was very comfortable with them being in my house when I was not there. I would definately use them again and have recommended them to several friends.

Recent Review: We made an appointment with Lon to look over our project.  He arrived on time and made a good first impression on my husband and me.  He was neat, clean, well-spoken and friendly.  We showed him the room we wanted redone and he asked pertinent questions and answered ours.  He made suggestions that were helpful and gave us an off the cuff idea of what kind of dollar amount we were looking at.  We talked about our budget and what changes we could make that would save us some money.  We asked him for an estimate and he emailed that to us the following day.  Lon was able  to fit in our remodel between a couple of big jobs his crew was already working on.  Our project was mainly cosmetic and took 7 work days to finish, except for the installation of the glass walls for the shower.  The supplier didn't get the glass in when promised, so the bathroom was finished and usable except for the shower after 7 days.  It was another week until the glass came in and was installed. The project included removing wallpaper from the bathroom, retexturing and priming and painting the walls, removing the bathtub and closing up the drain, replacing the cultured marble counter top and two shower walls and floor, installing tile floor and baseboards, installing a new toilet and quality sink and shower fixtures, exhaust fan and lighting.  The glass contractor installed the glass walls of the shower. The crew that labored at our home were real troopers.  They all had worked with Lon for years except for one new fellow.  They were all friendly and polite and patiently answered all the questions we asked.  By the end of the job they were practically family. They did their best to keep the dust and debris contained and always cleaned up every afternoon when they left.  They were obviously very skilled and particular about their work. Lon checked in on the project several times during the remodel and kept us informed about the details of the schedule.  After the shower was finished and we were using it, we had some water seeping out from under one corner of the glass wall.  We reported this to him and he had the glass company out there the next day to reseal it.  Problem solved. We are extremely pleased with the outcome of our remodel and have passed Lon's name onto friends who have seen pictures of the beautiful result.  We plan to have him return and update our hall bath as well as our kitchen. My one complaint about the whole process was that we didn't get a paper or email copy of the invoice during the process when we made some changes mid construction.
