AVan Herweg Electric Inc
The owner of the business, Ken David responded expediently to the call I made for an inspection and estimate. I had purchased a house for my daughter and the wiring was very old. She and her husband had experienced electrical shorts and the upper level of the home, the oven and other outlets would short out frequently. Ken David was prompt and after a half hour of inspecting, showed us all what was wrong, what needed to be replaced and a very fair estimate of what it would cost. He answered all of our questions and was a very, very personable guy. He also fixed what was unsafe immediately! He scheduled the main work to be done within the week and both guys that came out were just as efficient and friendly as Ken David.

Phillip was very professional in every aspect of the project. He arrived on time and worked quickly to complete the job. He made sure our wood floors were protected while working and cleaned up the left over materials when finished. He installed a ceiling medallion along with the chandelier. I would use his services again for future projects as they arise.

ADinse Contracting LLC
My journey with Dinse Contracting, LLC over the last several months Bega with Angie’s List. In 2016, I purchased an 1800 square foot, 1977 frame ranch-style house which I wanted to remodel. To find a contractor, I went to Angie’s List, and after reading 50+ positive reviews of his company, I decided to contact Brian, and so it began. As the owner of his company, Brian sets a tone of high expectations and teamwork among his crew members. All of them take a great deal of pride io their work. They help each other and step I whenever something needs to be done. Each one ( Seth 1, Zack, Mark, Josh, David and sometimes Robert, Todd ad Seth 2) is professional, punctual, polite, willing to answer questions and explain his work. Brian has several positive qualities of leadership. One is his awareness of the negative reputation that many people in the building trades have concerning communication with their clients. He fights that stereotype by being excellent at asking questions, keeping me informed about options and offering his opinions, both pro and con. A second is his protectiveness of his clients. Mediocre work or shoddy products are unacceptable to him. He makes it right if that is within his power. A third quality is creativity. Using bullnose tile to surround a bathroom window, making difficult chamfer (sp?) cuts in marble to add safety and visual interest, and designing a subtle and elegant pattern on the hearth using the sunroom tile are a few examples of creative thinking. The master bath is a fairly small and unusually-shaped space which Brian agonized over, working to find an aesthetically pleasing and functional design. These among other qualities show that Brian takes his work very seriously. Essentially, Dinse Contracting, LLC rebuilt almost the entire interior of my house. To do that, they employed all of the categories of work listed below. 1. Mark, Josh and sometimes Todd painted the entire interior plus exterior doors and the exterior of the bathroom window. Their work was flawless. 2. Brian and Seth 1 installed Windsor One baseboard throughout the house, ad Seth 1 created a lovely arrangement of shelves in an open space above a stairwell. 3. They added 1/4” drywall over dated paneling in a large portion of the house, and 1/4” drywall on ceilings throughout the house (goodbye, “popcorn” ceilings.) 4. Exterior painting already mentioned. 5. All of the items on this list are part of the remodeling. 6. Framing was a significant part of the work in both bathrooms, making them more modern and more efficient, installing a tub, toilets, plumbing fixtures. 7. The improved the electrical service, including several GFIs, bringing it up to code, and installing high tech, energy-saving switches for lights and fans. 8. These handymen helped out, whether finding the right hardwood floor clear or moving heavy items or fixing my broken tail light. 9. After I chose the lighting fixtures, Brian, David and Zack installed them all. A dining room chandelier was problematic because it needed “above the ceiling” support in a difficult place. They solved the problem. 10. Mentioned already. 11. Measuring for and installing vanities, mirrors, sconces, cabinets, indirect lighting. 12. Mentioned already. 13. After first installing a subfloor, Zack ad Brian began installing the first batch of oak flooring that I bought. They were alarmed at the poor quality of the product. They showed me, explained the problems it posed, I asked questions, and, in the end, they boxed it up and returned it to the store. Brian immediately investigated flooring stores and knowledgeable friends, and found an excellent flooring source. 14. Yes, they removed wallpaper from some high walls. 15. They installed closet doors, room doors, and exterior doors. All fit well. 16. A large sunroom and two bathrooms have tile floors—porcelain, ceramic and marble, respectively. To accommodate so much tile cutting, Seth 12 built a “room within a room” of plastic sheeting and 2x4s to house the tile saw, saving both time and money. He precisely cut, placed and grouted the tile. I believe that this is very difficult work which he did admirably. (The master bath came to be known at the “Taj Mahal.”) 17. They got rid of some nasty insulation above the bathrooms. 18. They installed all new plumbing fixtures in the baths and kitchen. 19. A subcontractor of Brian’s added duct work—one cold air and one heat register. 20. Mentioned already. 21. Included in #11. Also, Brian changed the glass in the bathroom window from clear to obscure. 22. Air duct cleaning was done early in the process and at the end of the process. (Brian hates dust!) 23. The last major project in this house was the built-i cabinets on one large wall of a large room. It is custom finish cabinetry at its finest. I was looking forward to nice book shelves; these cabinets are works of art thanks to Zack and Brian, with Mark, Josh and Todd painting. Two smaller bits of beautiful finish cabinet work are a custom oak handrail with a sweep, and a custom oak library ladder.

DProtect Your Home
My initial rating for this company was an F, which I have since upgraded to a D.  Below are my experiences: 10/7/13:  I responded to an ad that said they would install free equipment for an alarm system in my home for a $99 installation fee and a monitoring contract for $36.99 per month for 36 months.  Because I'm an AARP member, the operator said I would receive a 10% discount, bringing the monthly cost to $33.29 per month.  The tech came out the next day (10/8/13) and installed the control panel and began going over the paperwork with me, at which time he said the monthly fee was something like $45 per month.  When I said the operator (and the ad) both indicated the monthly fee was in the mid-30's, he said that was only if the system was connected to the customer's landline.  I said the operator and I talked about that, and that's how the system was supposed to be set up in my home.  That required more work on his part, which he did (although it took him a lot more time, with the total time spent at my home coming to close to 5 hours).   When he finished he then tried to sell me two smoke alarms and a carbon monoxide detector, both of which I already had and didn't need.  He also suggested I buy an exterior light that could be activated to produce a flashing blue light that would enable police or paramedics to be able to find my house more quickly in case of an emergency.  I didn't want that, either.  He also said he wouldn't recommend the interior motion detector, which I thought would be a good idea at night.  He said it didn't work at night (why would I want one that only worked in the daytime?).  Then he told me the system he installed only came with 7 door/window sensors, but that I needed 15.  Lucky for me, they were available for $129 each.  I showed him the ad that said I would get 15 sensors free.  He said that only applied to homes that were already wired.  I thought that was what he had just spent the last few hours doing.   I wasn't happy about being told this was going to cost me $1000 more that I hadn't anticipated, so I told him to just install the 7 that came with the 'deal'.  First he tried to scare me by telling me I was leaving myself vulnerable and when that didn't work, he implied that I was a racist.  He said he never should have come to Howell (a predominantly white community) since he was a black man.  I resented that false accusation but I wasn't about to get into an argument with him on the subject.  Until he began telling me the extra sensors were going to cost $129 each, we were getting along just fine.  We were friendly and I even tried to help him find where to look for the line he had to drop through the wall into the basement, since the basement ceiling was drywalled.  I let him fill out the paperwork and signed where he wanted me to sign.  As soon as he left I signed the cancellation agreement, took it to the post office and had it delivered by priority mail to the Colorado address indicated.   I haven't heard back from the company yet as to when they'll be out to remove the equipment. 10/21/13:  On or about 10/18/13 I received a call from corporate.  The representative apologized for my ?horrible experience? and asked if I would be agreeable to accepting, at no cost, the additional 5 sensors that I had expected originally as a way of making my experience better.  I said that would help, and the installation of the additional sensors was scheduled.  On 10/21/13 a gentleman who said he was the manager of that particular PYH office came to my home and installed the 5 sensors.  However, his attitude wasn?t much better than the original installer.  Like the first gentleman, he tried to scare me into upgrading the system, telling me the sensors I had wouldn?t give me the protection I needed if someone broke a window to gain entry.  I told him the only reason I wanted the system was to wake me at night if someone broke in, that I wanted a few seconds to grab a weapon to protect myself.  Obviously the sound of broken glass would wake me.  He said the guys who break in are all professionals who know to cut the phone wire before they break in.  I disagreed. In this area most break-ins are meth/crack addicts looking for something to sell to get their next fix.  Not only do they generally not think far enough ahead to cut the phone wire, but a barking dog, alarm or even lights going on will usually scare them off.  And, cutting the landline wire won?t eliminate a call on a cell phone.  I also told this manager that I was surprised that a salesman didn?t come to my home after my initial call. He said most of their customers don?t want a salesman, which I find hard to believe.  That means the installer comes out, puts in the system and then informs the customer that they?ll need a thousand or two more to make their home safe, and these people are ready to make that decision on the spot.  Don?t believe that, either. But I think my biggest issue with both of the installers is that neither one offered any kind of apology, at any time.  I didn?t expect them to get on their knees and beg for forgiveness, but it would have been nice if they had said they were sorry for the miscommunication.  Both were unwilling to assign any part of the problem to PYH, and both seemed to think I was out of line for expecting more than I was getting.  I would suggest that corporate do some intense customer service training to teach their installers how to deal with surprised customers who are unhappy to learn than the offer advertised won?t be what they?re getting.   Because PYH gave me enough sensors to cover all my doors and windows, I?ve upgraded them to a D.  Too bad.  A little less attitude on the part of the installers would have increased the grade considerably more.

Recent Review: Kelli was SUPER helpful in explaining their process.  They have NO contract, just a monthly fee that you pay, like your car insurance bill.  You HOPE you never need to use it, but IF you do.....then it is sure nice to have that coverage.  Also, there is NOT a $75.00 service call fee every time you need to have a repair person visit your home.  Just the usual monthly fee, which is based upon your choice of available plans and options that you select when you sign up.  Basically, you only pay for what you need and you are not double, or triple billed for services from an UNknowledgeable or UNskilled service technician at a time you can least afford it.  Their service plans are clearly explained on their web site ((( https://www.completeprotection.net/ ))), and they also CLEARLY explain their limits on replacements on their web site as well.  Keep in mind, they seem to be more REPAIR ORIENTED rather than for REPLACEMENTS and if your item is too old or unworthy of repair, they will pay only a small portion towards a replacement item.  The small amount they do pay towards the replacement if you need it, is listed on the web site.  This helps to keep their fees down as well ! ! !  Another nice feature is that they have a list of repair companies that they will give you, so you can call and schedule your own repair, once you have a Repair Authorization Number from CAP.  The repair companies they suggest are familiar with the CAP process, and will bill CAP directly for the work.  Now if you have a favorite service provider that you prefer to use, that is no problem.  If that provider is unfamiliar with billing CAP, you can pay the provider yourself and CAP reimburses you within 10 to 14 days from the time they receive your bill.  (((Just remember to get the Repair Authorization Number from CAP BEFORE having your work done.)))  Also nice, is if you have an older home, they don't seem to have all the exclusions we read about from the other companies.       We have a home in Henderson, Nevada that we plan to rent out this fall.  We want the tenants to have reliable and trustworthy service folks available to them if they need someone.  We have read the horror stories on Angie's List, for some of the other Home Warranty options out there and some of the service providers as well.  (((You know the ones......service provider is called and MAYBE shows up when expected, or maybe not.  MAYBE they fix the problem for the $75.00 service call fee, maybe not.  MAYBE the problem is fixed this week, next week, or maybe not at all.))) Also, even though our home is new, we want to limit our financial exposure for any HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical and Appliance problems.  We live out of state, but still want our tenants to get quality service when necessary.  For us anyway, the choice is clear.  Complete Appliance Repair.   Oh yeah, and Angie's List of course !!
