Recent Review: Scottie and his crew turned my swamp into an oasis. He pulled the permits, done the work promised and faster than ehat I thought. All I had to do was pass the greenbacks, they took care of the rest. Nobody would go near my swamp but now everyone wants to hand out at my pond. You can't go wrong with Schlicht Excavating. My pond was horrible and now it looks like SCHLICHT!
Project went poorly. Communication was dismal. Phone calls were not returned. What should have been done in a month took a year. Excavation was insufficient and not what was originally agreed. Tile joints were not wrapped. Tiles leaked and required repair. Another outfit had to be hired to finish the job.

We found Gary through neighbors that had used his services to level their driveway and put stone down. They were very pleased with his work. We had a larger job; several acres requiring significant leveling for drainage and in preparation for landscaping services. We also needed our long driveway leveled, a new portion constructed and limestone covering it. Additionally, many boulders needed repositioning. Gary was great. He spent many days at our home and actually did more than originally agreed upon without increasing his original quote. He was able to accommodate our schedule and worked extremely well with our landscaper, who was also impressed with his work. It was amazing how he shaped our property. Our driveway was beyond our expectations. Gary is a great guy and a true professional. I would recommend him highly for any driveway, excavating, grading and/or retaining wall projects.

They were very quick to come out and give us an estimate which was reasonable considering the size and mixture of the pile. While they were here, it started to rain and they were unable to smooth out the area. Billy himself called us to say that he knew they needed to 'butter it up' and asked if we would please call when the ground dried out enough to drive the heavy equipment on it again. The only complaint I have is that it took them two weeks to return to remove the pile after the initial estimate.

Dennis Novak has years of experience and was a pleasure to have him excavate our property for the driveway and the basement of our new house. The first day we met Denny we walked the property, showed him the blueprints for the house and by the end of this meeting we had a very reasonable quote from which he didn't deviate. We recommend him without reservation. He was there when he said he would be, the time estimate he gave was right on, and the material estimate he gave us was pretty much dead on - (we purchased the material ourselves and had it delivered to the site).

Drain Surgeon was called by my plumber who said that the outside excavation work was beyond his scope. They sent a person over within an hour to survey the damage and suggest a solution. The owner (Dave) called me after normal hours (!) to schedule the work for the next day. They showed up when promised in the morning, removed my landscaping plants, hand dug around my foundation and sprinkler system, used a small excavator to make a large hole, found the break in the drain line, and repaired it. They refilled the hole, returned the sprinkler line, and even replanted my landscaping plants. It was surprising that they did all this work the day after the problem was identified, and with such high quality. I hope I never have to have this type of thing done again ($700+ in unplanned expenses), but at least I'll know who to call.

The job went well. A crew of 4 started on October 29th and completed the job on Friday November 2nd. They stayed on task kept area damage to a minimum and were very creative in their ideas.

Fantastic! His regrading of the gravel driveway removed all the potholes and smoothed out the grooves. No added gravel was needed at this time. He even promised to come back after the next hard rain and smooth it over again for free. Unbelievable. He saved me thousands of dollars being quoted by an excavator to bring in tons of crushed limestone and re-grading my 100 yard driveway. If you have a gravel driveway, it needs annual maintenance. If you have a gravel parking lot and want to get rid of the weeds and smooth things over, Top Grade Driveway Grooming is your guy! And if you have a private gravel road, say no more. Sign up for a regular improvement program that adds extra gravel, maintenance for $1500 a year.

Mr Gordon came and did the excavation in December. During the process he cut through three pipes that go to our swimming pool. Since it was cold, he didn't want to finish the job and said that he would return in the spring to fix the pipes and to fill in the hole he dug. This spring I called to schedule a time for him to finish the work and got a phone message a couple of days later giving me the name of another company who I was supposed to call and arrange for them to finish the work. Since we had paid for the job in full in December.I called them and told them that they should finish the job or pay for the other company to finish. She said that she would have to check with Dave and would call me back.. She never did of course.
