I found Chris on Angies list and called him for a quote to remove the ceramic tile that had been in the house for 20 years and replace it with 3/4 inch solid hickory flooring. Chris arrived on time the very next day and walked through every aspect of the job with me. One of my primary concerns was the ability to match the current Hickory flooring that was already installed in the dinning room / formal living room, both of which butted up against the existing tile flooring. I really wanted the transitions between the current hickory flooring and the new hickory flooring to look seamless. Chris said " not an issue" as he has perfected a "toothing" technique that allows him to give a seamless look - given we can find the same hickory flooring. Chris also laid out a clear time line for the start date, the time to complete each aspect of the job (ceramic tile removal - 4 days, floor prep - 1 day, floor install - 4 days, and base trim / finish 1 day), as well as the final completion date. Then next step was to find the Hickory flooring which we did at a discount flooring dealer in GA. Chris had no issue with me purchasing the floor directly from the dealer, and also helped me to estimate how much flooring was needed. The flooring was direct shipped to my residence, and even with shipping cost, was less than most of the hickory flooring that I looked at locally. Chris called me the day prior to the date the job was going to start to confirm we were still ready to proceed, and to coordinate plans to provide access to the house. Chris showed up on time, on the initial date he had given me when he quoted the job and got after it. Chris is very efficient at everything he does, and the tile demolition was complete after day 3 (already ahead of his time line), Flooring started going in on day 4. Chris started with the transition between the formal dining room (current hickory flooring), and the kitchen (new hickory flooring). Chris was able to cut back into every other board of the old hickory flooring, replace it with the new hickory flooring, then continue on into the kitchen. The effect was a complete seamless flow of flooring from old to new (no transition molding, ect). I was blown away. Needless to say the rest of installation was conducted with the same level of excellence. The flooring install was basically complete on day 8, at which time, Chris brought in his finishing man "Pete", to install / paint the foot molding that was added to the current 3 inch floor molding in the house. The molding install was excellent, and Pete went over and above by not only painting the foot molding, but also repainting the 3 inch base molding to ensure both molding matched thoughout the entire job area. The end result was impressive. We completed the final walk through 1 day ahead of Chris's original completion date, and I was completely satisfied with the entire project. I did not have a single issue with anything - just blown away. It should be noted that I have extremely high expectation, and do 99% of my own home improvement work. I have even installed my own hardwood flooring in the past, but due to time constraints at work, and the size of the project, I felt like I needed to contract out this project. A few overall comments about CNB hardwood flooring: 1. Chris is professional, friendly, and courteous (fairly yong guy also to have obtained these skiils). 2. He stood behind his quote, never changing the price, and actually did some "flooring customization" (very cool stuff) for no charge. 3. Started the job on time, cleaned up each day (even during the demoliiton which was a significant amount of work), and completed the job 1 day ahead of schedule. 4. Chris's expectations for his own work were greater than mine (and my expectations are extremely high). 5. He also did some very cool work on "cutting in" the flush mount hickory floor vents that look custom. 6. His quote was more then fair, and I feel that Chris definately "worked" for every dollar he made on this job. 7. Chris made me feel like I was a valued customer, and he was more interested in exceeding my expectatons than jst meeting them. Lastly, I typically do not fill out evaluations on line, again partly because I do most of my own work. Based on the excellent work Chris did on customizing my current house, I felt obligated to make these comment. Chris is the MAN, thank you for the awsome work, and I will never personally lay hard wook floor again, as I now know the "hardwood floor master". Thanks, Rob
