Recent Review: I contacted Steve Laursen to discuss a new garage and breezeway we wanted to add onto our home.   He got right back to me and we set up an appointment to meet to draw up a plan.  Steve arrived at the scheduled time and we took measurements and discussed the layout.  He said he would have a drawing to show us soon. On April 16, 2012, I wrote that I was looking forward to Steve's drawing with the changes and mentioned that in the recent storm we had noticed that some shingles had loosened and blown off the new roof.  Steve replied the next day that that was what you get when you try to save a buck by not stripping the roof to the sheathing.  He asked if we were available that weekend.  I wrote back on April 17, 2012 to inform him that I had received his bid and to say we were not available that weekend and could we reschedule for the next weekend?I did not hear from Steve for approximately 4 weeks.  During that time I called several times with no luck in getting a return call.  Finally, Steve's wife called to say that Steve was away due to a death in his family.  She then asked about the garage addition and I told her he would have to speak to my husband about that.  We had decided to accept other estimates for the garage/breezeway work due to his non-communication.Steve called finally and gave us a date that he would come to repair the roof on the barn.  He came when he said he would and repaired the roof himself.  It was sometime toward the middle of May, I believe.Steve completed the roof repair and did a quality job as he always does.He did not get the garage/breezeway job.

DMitchell's Roofing & Sheet Metal
The price was good. The installation quick with friendly workers. The first winter was ok with small snow loads. In 2003, larger snow loads ripped TV antenna off roof and crushed metal chimney. Roofer replaced chimney promptly but improperly (crooked and not per code). TV antenna was replaced at my cost. In the summer of 2003, roofer grudgingly applied snow brakes to protect chimneys and vent stack. Some of the snow brakes were ripped off in subsequent winters. Roofer came to replace snow brakes only after months of delay and repeated calls. He has no answering machine. Leaks developed in 2006 resulting in interior sheet rock damage. Roofer took 3 months to repair leaks but refused to do work by appointment. He would only do work when it was convenient to him and so I was not home at time of repairs. Subsequent attempts to secure repair of sheet rock damage were not successful. In 2006, large snow and ice accumulation ripped snow brakes off the roof tearing holes in metal roof By this time, roofer had given business to his daughter. After multiple calls, daughter and worker came out to repair roof denying any fault with workmanship saying, "There's something wrong with your roof that it has all these problems." meaning that there was a problem intrinsic to the roof itself and not the fault of the metal covering. My roof never leaked prior to Mitchell Roofing's work. The daughter was markedly angry at having to repair the roof. When I asked her if we had a worker/customer relationship and if I could expect her to honor her father's guarantee, her response was, "gotta eat". In 2007, a large snow accumulation ripped off snow brakes again and tearing holes in metal roof. When the brakes came off, the snow and ice nearly toppled a brick chimney to which a burning wood stove was attached. I was now no longer confident in the ability of Mitchell Roofing to do the work properly and was most concerned with protecting my home from future snow damage. I therefore acquired the services of another roofer at my expense who came out to assess the roof. He told me that Mitchell Roofing had applied the snow brakes backwards assuring their failure. The second roofer applied a very expensive type of snow brake and repaired all existing roof damage. His repairs cost an additional $3000.00. We have since had no further problems with the roof.
