Recent Review: Craig and his helper did an excellent job!   They were  very  professional  and meticulous in what they did and took pride in their workmanship!  Iv'e had dealings with other contractors but this company impressed me so much that I would recommend them to my friends and family. Window Source is very fortunate  to have Craig  as one of their tech's, the man is a perfectionist and that is rare in the trades these days. When they finished the job they left the  site impeccably clean!! I lucked out with this company!! Ciao, JohnM.

Recent Review: Dennis met to discuss the project and provided a wealth of information that assisted in the decision making process.  Denis has solid knowledge of the products they install and the pros- and cons- of the variety of choices on the siding and window market.  We worked up some pricing , which was not cheapest that we could have settled with, but the quality of the products and the work was very high.  We developed a schedule and he started right when he said he would.  The two person crew that did the installation, Scott and Steve, were absolutely excellent and demonstrated a commanding level of expertise in their work.  I will admit, I am picky about quality and don't expect any shortcuts no matter how small.  Scott and Steve were personally invested in in doing a great job on our house and making everything look perfect - without me having to say anything - that is just how they operated on there own.  They paid attention to all of the small details without question and were enthusiastic to show off the effort they were putting in.  I work close to home, so in addition to talking with them each morning, on most days I would go home for lunch and see the progress.  They would answer questions and if they were not sure how we wanted a certain detail, would walk through it with me to explain the options and what they would propose before doing that particular piece of work.  They were efficient, professional, hard working, and cleaned up at the end of each day.  The work has been completed for several months now and I still haven't seen anything that I would have wanted them to do differently.  At the end of it all, we are completely satisfied with the work that was performed and would (and have) recommend them to others.

Recent Review: All of the above work done smoothly, on time and, pretty closely for the price initially quoted; all while providing nervous home owners with friendly, patient, and detailed answers to any and all questions. Marcus Therrien and Chris Andresan were truly competent, courteous, prompt and professional. I cannot think of any reason why anybody would not want Moss Cove Construction working on anything, anytime around their home or office. These gentlemen are, most importantly, problem solvers and could handle anything from skylights to sky scrapers given enough time and resources.

Recent Review: As the work began we quickly noticed that there were other issues with the house that needed to be addressed namely, significant rotten band joist where the old slider was which required detaching the deck from outside of the house, repair and reattaching.  Once that issue was resolved, they found 2 additional issues which required additional repair work not foreseeable including installation of multiple LVL beams and electrical wiring cleanup.  Casa Pro?s crew was professional, thoughtful, maintained cleanliness when possible and very competent; they took pride in the quality of work.   There were 2 exceptions though, the initial title guy was not particularly clean and did not appear very concerned about preserving the integrity of the electrical heated floor which resulted in the flooring having to be redone.  The electrician seem to want to do as little as possible and ultimately left without completing the work with light switch dimmers which caused me to have to complete the work I paid for him to perform?  Nate however, was extremely professional and fair when dealing with the unforeseeable. The one recommendation I would have for Nate and Casa Pro would be to be more responsive to your clients through phone calls and e-mails.  This wasn?t a problem during the remodel activity.  However, we did have this issue early on and even now we have additional work we?d like them to do and get scheduled but it can be weeks before we get a return phone call.    Knowing first-hand the quality of work they do, it?s understandable that they are busy.  But potentially alienating motivated clients by not communicating doesn?t seem to be a wise business decision.  I would recommend Casa Pro and plan to continue to use their services in the future.

Recent Review: Once work got started it was done in a timely manner. Had to wait my place in the work queue. A crew of two did it all and they worked extremely hard even on some very hot days. They were both quite personable and friendly. They did a full days work and if anything I had to keep at them to stay hydrated and take breaks during the hottest times. Materials were delivered quickly and efficiently. The guy who dropped the dumpster (for debris) did an outstanding job doing minimal damage to the lawn area.  A number of times I changed the job order by requesting additional things to be done (my fault, yes, it might have been smarter had I thought of this stuff before starting). Still and all they were able to work and deal with the changes and still get the mission done. There was a lot of debris but the guys somehow managed to get it all up and pack it into the dumpster in an efficient way. I was home during all of this and the crew was intrusive only as necessary to achieve the mission. Both the contractor and the crew were willing to answer my questions (even my dumb ones, and I had a LOT of dumb ones) without hesitation. The siding looks great, we've been complimented by many of our neighbors. The new back porch / deck thing is solidly built and once we seal coat it I expect it'll last a good long time. It has been 3 weeks or so since completion and we have had no reason to have to call them back for repairs or anything. The old Masonite siding was a horror show. Found where carpenter ants had just moved in but hadn't started anything, yet. Exterminator took care of that, along with some pesky wasps or bees. D*** bees. Once the siding was off found all sorts of odd work that appeared to have been done by Tim the tool man, or whatever. The crew was able to deal with this stuff using their carpentry skills 'on the fly' so to speak and were able to do the insulation layer without too many issues. The siding went on fairly easy although the chimney area gave them fits. Pulling off the old siding was a nasty job, but they did it quickly and neatly. As to the cost, we kind-of expected it was going to run a bit, but unlike shopping for appliances or a car, it is much more difficult to get any sort of accurate pricing info. We opted for a local company with a proven track record and history of many years of being in business. Fortin's has a good word-of-mouth rep and some background checking decided us on going with them. I'm satisfied that I got what I paid for and in the end that's all that matters. Yes, maybe someone else might have done it cheaper, but it's like having your car repaired. You can have your neighbor do it, or you can have a real mechanic do it and have it done right.  The contractor, Ron, was right up-front with us; there were no "secret gotchas". In conclusion I would not hesitate to call Fortin's if I needed them. I would also easily recommend them for anything. If they can't do it, I'm sure they would tell you !

If you could describe a perfect project this would be it. We needed a sliding door replaced as well as an entryway door. Bill of Port Builders came over, gave us an estimate and then delivered on what he promised. He was able to get us a better price on the patio door and we were thrilled. He showed up when he said he would, performed the work to our satisfaction and cleaned as if there was no job going on. You could not ask for more! And all of the work has stood the test of time. We are still as happy now as we were when the job was performed. Bill is a quality craftsman!

He's meticulous to detail. He went to a college for building construction so he's actually a master carpenter. It includes materials and will probably be around $6500.

AUpright Building Services
A year ago, my wife and I relocated from Chicagoland to the Midcoast of Maine where we purchased a lovely garrison colonial home on 2 acres of land on the top of granite and pine covered hill top. As we moved into our first winter we discovered 2 shortcomings to our house.  The first was that the building did not have rain gutters and rainwater and snow melt shed all along the foundation.  As a result the floor of our cellar would occasionally get wet enough to require the use of a shop vac.  Second, the house is oriented on the property so that the back of the house where our deck was located faced north and the roof line ran from east to west such that the sun did not shine directly through any window on either the north or south side of the house.  This resulted in the interior being very dark in the autumn and winter months and not coincidentally difficult and expensive to heat.  We determined that a room addition added to the living room on the north side of the house had the possibility of providing sunlight to enter on 3 sides of the room and with ample windows and screening could provide a light, airy room in the warm months and a snug, bright room in the cold months.  Further we decided to add a Vermont Castings wood burning stove in the center of the north wall.  We had some rudimentary ideas about how this addition properly designed could remedy the 2 issues listed above.  At this point we realized we needed to acquire some real talent for consultation and execution.  We knew no one in the area so we referred to Angie?s List where we had found success in the past.  And through it we identified Fred Hilchey the owner of Upright Building Services.  The interview process was critical for 2 reasons.  First we needed to discover a great deal about the character of Fred Hilchey, i.e., integrity, work ethic, creativity and problem solving.  And second we knew we needed a builder with a very broad and complete skill set.  We were fortunate since Fred and his small crew met all of our needs.  His consultation and advice at the beginning of the project turned out to be spot on.  He recommended a metal shed roof that attached to the existing roof of the house and continued the same pitch 15? further into the back yard.  Powerful rain storms during the latter part of summer and early fall have shown that he was right and the water is sluiced far enough into the back yard so as to drain down the granite hillside and not into the cellar which has remained bone dry.  We expect the same result as snow slides off the metal roof this winter.     The second issue regarding heat was that the interior of the addition has a cathedral ceiling that slopes up and attaches above a window to a den.  Fred advised that when the stove was heating the addition it would not only provide heat to that room but with the aid of a ceiling fan heat would vector up the ceiling and through the sliding window he installed and provide some heat to the upstairs rooms.  As it turns out he was once again quite correct as that little wood burning stove now supplements the heat for the 4 upstairs rooms and bath and we can nicely regulate the degree of heat by opening and closing the sliding window and the doors to the various rooms.  Thus 2 mechanical issues regarding the house with Fred?s experience were ameliorated in a very satisfactory way.  Additionally as can be seen from the list above Fred?s aesthetic and architectural sense have made this addition both functional and beautiful.  The exterior is consonant with the overall design of the house and the 5? casement windows and functional transom windows and the sliders at the east and west ends of the addition allow us to capture a breeze no matter the direction of the wind.  The interior is also beautiful due to the size of the windows and the proximity to the pines and wild life.  But also the finish work and detail once again exceeded our expectation.  The ceiling is tongue and groove pine which will color and develop a fine patina with time.  The window sills are all over sized to accommodate tea or coffee cups and small plants.  The project as Fred warned was not without its difficulties.  Immediately in trenching out the foundation Fred ran into ledge which required pinning the foundation and where the addition attached to the house was also where the attached garage joined the building.  This made for a very difficult roof transition.  At each step as problems were encountered Fred and his team analyzed and solved them elegantly.  There were no surprises.  Fred consulted with us each time the unexpected occurred or he had an idea to enhance the finished project.  No corners were cut.  The work was meticulous inside and out.  The result is beautiful and exceeded our expectations.  Would we hire Fred Hilchey again?  You bet.  We have already scheduled him for our kitchen remodel right after the Thanksgiving holiday.  As a side note Fred?s team reflects what Upright Builders stands for notably his right hand man, Jason, has the same dedication and work ethic that Fred Hilchey personifies.

AWally J. Staples Builders, Inc
It went very well. Originally, I was in the process of purchasing another home, and after it was inspected, I had Wally Staples come out and do an estimate on what needed to be done. He spent a lot of time and effort making sure my estimate was detailed and complete. The estimate was free, and when you consider it took up about 3-5 hours of his time, that is a definite plus. Then, when I purchased a different house, I knew I wanted this company to do the work. I had seen his work on a friend's house, and was very impressed with the fact that they not only took care of what needed to be done, but the guys were very conscientious, very accomodating, and they remember every single detail you tell them, AND they clean up after themselves. My house was spotless after the work was done, and they checked, check and double checked everything. The owner came by a couple of different times during and after the work was finished to see how things were going, and how the work was completed. This is my first home and I was extremely overwhelmed and not knowledgeable in home repairs and needs. This company makes sure that the work done is very high quality, and that everything looks absolutely beautiful, and that the owner is pleased. Wally has all of his own staff, so the work is not contracted out unless there's something unusual, they all work together very well, and are very professional. My new roof is a beautiful burnt siena color, it is high quality and algae resistant, since I'm near the water, the rear deck was stained and looks beautiful......
