Recent Review: Excellent communication. He was in touch with me almost daily by email or by phone. Any problems or changes I wanted to make, they were very responsive. We had only one change that we thought was very expensive and not necessarily called for but it was with the electric company and they didn't really have any control over that. Everything else they did they followed through on and have done well. They are known for superb craftsmanship and that was the case here. When they say something will be done, it will be done. In an environment where builders do not have to be licensed, Custom Build Homes of Maine is a company you can trust.
At first everything was fine we picked out the house that we wanted in Oct. 2015. It was the one that they had on display there and we told him we wanted one exactly like that. Mike said it would be built by the Amish in PA and then trucked up to ME. We were okay with that - we didn't want it until late spring because we were still having a pool and landscaping done to our backyard. Just before memorial day weekend of 2016 he delivered the "shed". It wasn't the one that we had picked out. I told Mike before he put it in the backyard that this was the wrong one, I didn't like it, and I didn't want it. He said this is the shed you ordered. Let me just put it on the concrete pad and see how it looks. After a couple of days you're going to love it. After two weeks of looking at the shed I called Mike several times to tell him I didn't love it and I didn't want it. He never returned my calls so I took a picture of the shed and then I went in and showed it to him and told him to look at the shed that's in his yard - it's not the same shed that he brought us. He said he would have to get back to me because he didn't think he could still get that same one. We waited all summer and he never got back to us. I called and left him a message that I didn't order this shed, I didn't want the shed and I'm not paying for the shed. He can leave it in my yard as long as he wants but he's not going to get one cent for that shed. He called and set up a day to deliver the one we ordered. It arrived early Fall, just in time to lock it up for the Fall/Winter seasons. This Spring (2017) I went out to the pool house to unlock it and noticed one of the windows in the front had a crack from the top to the bottom. I called Shed Happens and Mike wasn't around so I talked to Eric . I told Eric that the house has been locked up all winter and nobody has been out there. I went out and unlocked the door and noticed there's a crack in the front window. He asked me to get the serial number or model number off from the windows so I went back out to the pool house and was looking at different windows to see if they were all the same and the back window also had the same type of crack from top all the way to the bottom. I told Eric it wasn't just one window but it was two windows that needed to be replaced He said maybe I did it mowing the lawn or maybe a branch hit it. The house was delivered in early Fall. I wasn't mowing the lawn anymore and it would be quite the coincidence that I would have something thrown from the lawn mower to hit the front window and also the back window. I told Eric this and he said he would talk to Mike A few days went by and I hadn't heard anything so I called him again and of course Mike still wasn't available. Eric told me that Mike was going to have to talk to the manufacturer of the windows and see what they were willing to do. He never got back to me about that so I called him again. I was told he was in the Saco store. I called the Saco store and the woman there told me that he wasn't available but he did say that the windows are in and if we wanted to pick them up and install them ourselves we could do that because he didn't have the manpower to install the windows. I told her after the money we spent on this ($14,000.) I wasn't about to install windows. This is Mike's business and he should come out here and install these himself if he doesn't have manpower to do it. That was about two weeks ago and I hadn't heard anything more from Mike. I called yesterday and told him I was tired of the runaround and I wanted to hear from him or I was going to talk with somebody that would be able to help me. Again no one from Shed Happens called so I tried once more today to talk to Mike and try to settle this. I called Shed Happens and of course was told he wasn't in. Eric then told me Mike just heard back from the place he gets the windows from and they are willing to replace the windows but they won't install them for free. Eric said Mike will order them and when they come in my husband and I will have to pay to have somebody install them. I told him we weren't paying anybody to install the windows. This is Mike's business and he should be standing behind his product (not hiding behind Eric) and not trying to make customers replace faulty windows. Eric lied to me by telling me Mike will order the new ones. When I tried to tell him that the woman I spoke with earlier this summer had already told me the windows were in, he kept getting louder and talking over me so he couldn't hear what I was saying. I tried several times to tell him I know the windows were in but he just kept talking over me and not letting me say anything. I now have a lawyer involved for a simple job that Mike could have handled himself back in March. I would never buy anything from this man again. I will tell people to check out the shed company on Rte 202 heading up towards Lewiston. We paid $14,000. for this!
