Recent Review: I contacted AMJ for ideas for my drab indoor fireplace. My estimate was immediately scheduled for the next day. Much to my surprise the owner Aaron showed up at my door on time and full of creative ideas. Together we decided that the best bet would be to frame my 5 foot high fireplace to a full floor to ceiling fireplace for a dramatic look. He took the time to go over different grades and manufactures of the stone veneer and gave his input as well as listened to mine (which many contractors don't do), after we decided on a stone, he had my pricing to me the next day. I felt his pricing was good and accepted. The scheduling process was simple. On my scheduled install date his craftsmen showed up on time, and ready to work. They showed me the stone and made sure I was happy with it before it was installed. They proceeded to move all my furniture out of the room, covered everything with drop clothes and covered my wood floors with heavy blankets to protect them. The install took several days, and everyday it was a pleasure to have his craftsmen in my home. Aaron stopped by several times during the install process and had his men make small adjustments (stuff that he wanted perfect, that I never would have noticed). I wouldn't hesitate to use AMJ again and again. I appreciate his creativity, vision, helpfulness, and professionalism. I'm already planning my next job for AMJ.

Recent Review: We were very happy with the end results. The team who did the work was great, dependable, and prompt. The designer we worked with was very helpful, responsive to our questions, made good suggestions and provided many options and actually listened to what we wanted. The installers for our new stone entry way were professional, conscientious and did a great job. We are very happy with the end results. Our new entry way is exactly what we envisioned. The planter box with its new stone veneer looks perfect with the rest of the house.

Recent Review: I obtained a total of 3 estimates for the job and all were quite similar for the overall cost.  Kyle and his team were professional throughout the process.  The overall craftsmanship was very high.  My only quibble would be that the joints between the stone pieces were not as narrow as might be ideal.  The brick work in the backyard is very tight and appears durable.  I would definitely recommend them to a friend.

The job was thoroughly professional.  Any meetings, estimates, and start and finish of work was exactly on time.  The quality of the work was excellent, and the mason was courteous, pleasant, and professional.  These guys did great work.  Reasonable and fair price. Best experience we have ever had with a contracting/home improvement service.

Kyle from A to Z was very responsive and came within a week to talk with me about ideas to improve the appearance of the front of our house.  His quote was very similar to two others I had obtained, and just slightly lower.  A to Z had just done some work for a friend, and she was very pleased, so I went with this company. The original price for the proposed design was more than I wanted to spend.  Kyle worked with me through several iterations to get the most for what I could spend.  I was under a time crunch because I had out of town guests coming for a big family event at my home.  A to Z really came through under a very short timeframe when bad weather threw them off their schedule.  Kyle's creative solution to the rocks at the end of the porch looks amazing.  Many houses in my neighborhood have this feature of a slab porch, and then a fall off due to the natural topography that in our case the previous owners had lined with sharp edged "manufactured" white rocks.  Very tacky.  Kyle suggested replacing the rocks with river rock (very smooth with many colors) and two large boulders, so that it looks like this is a planned feature of the garden.  This meant I could stop considering extending the porch - with all of the additional costs associated.  It looks great.  A to Z got the main pieces of the work done before my event, and then came back the next week to finish up.  The crew was hardworking and efficient, and the end results definitely surpassed my expectations.

AThe Outdoor Advantage LLC
Once we purchased the Angie's List big deal to have landscaping plans created, Dave Ewell, owner of Outdoor Advantage, contacted us immediately, and made an appointment with us almost right away. He came to our house at the scheduled appointment time, and he engaged in very thoughtful discussion with us about what we were looking for. Right away, we were impressed with how Dave thought about and approached the problems we were trying to solve. When we started, we were not committed to tackling the job right away--we knew it would be a big job and we were not sure we were ready. But we were so impressed with Dave that we felt compelled to go forward and felt like we were in good hands (and once we talked with several other people who had work done by Outdoor Advantage, we were sure).       Dave and his team thought through the difficulties of our landscape very carefully and came up with plans that suited our needs and setting perfectly. They worked through the permitting process (which was complicated by the requirements of being in a historical district), did a HUGE demolition job, and built us really beautiful stairs, retaining walls, and walkways.     We had the steps replaced because our old steps were way too steep and the risers were way too high--the steps were painful for everyone who had to go up or down, and they were dangerous. Our house is below street level at the bottom of a steep slope, so no heavy equipment could be gotten down the slope. That made the job more complicated and difficult than usual. They problem solved and handled it all beautifully.      The steps and walls that Dave and crew built are concrete with stone veneer and blue stone caps. The design fits perfectly with our setting, as do the materials and finish.      Dave's crew showed up when they said they were going to, took great care with their work, and completed everything with impressive skill and workmanship. And every single person who worked at our house was as nice as he could be.      As the job progressed, the design required adjustments that could not have been foreseen. The mason and Dave were incredibly responsive and wise in their judgments and suggestions all along. Everything turned out even better than we could have imagined (may have turned out better than they imagined too!).     There is not one thing we would change about the process, the work, or the outcome. There is just nothing that would make it better. We are very, very pleased with the work that was done and very pleased with how Dave does business. We cannot recommend him and his crew highly enough.

Project was handled great by Kyle from beginning to end. They had to remove a lot of old rock from the area during the prep work.... perhaps more than they thought. But Kyle never complained. They installed the cut bluestone with a thoughtful pattern and put a beautiful hand cut sun burst in front of our french doors. We requested the joints not be mortared but instead filled with polymeric sand. We also requested tight joints for an older look. They also put a brick veneer on the slightly visible wall under the bluestone patio (the patio is raised 1 step off the ground). Kyle helped us find brick and mortar color to match our old brick home. We had a few concerns during the job with some of the early block work, but Kyle was quick to respond and take care of it. We had a lot of weather delays and some materials delays... Kyle was always letting me know updates! They did a beautiful job. We highly recommend Kyle and his team!

Their service rep came the same day as my inquiry to the company.  He was polite and professional. However, the company president (CP) whom I later dealt with was uninformed regarding the part of the project that involves removing a window and installing a door in its place.    The window is in a load-bearing, concrete block exterior wall.  The CP believed  - presumably based on his service rep's initial measurements - that the existing window lintel was too low to accommodate the proposed door.  According to the CP the installation of a new, higher lintel was beyond the scope of his company's services. Had the measurements the CP relied on been accurate I would have agreed; however they aren't.  The simple proof of this is that just a few feet away, on the same wall, are a set of exterior doors under a lintel the exact same height as the one over the window. Unfortunately the CP simply would not accept my advice to this effect.  He discounted the measurements I provided as inaccurate; and rebuffed my suggestion his service rep come back and re-measure ( how hard would that have been, really?).   While I do appreciate his recommendation of another company to handle the window/door part of the project, I had to ASK him for it - and this after he initially declined the entire renovation project based on just the presumed lintel problem.  What put me off the most was his total lack of interest in simply ASKING QUESTIONS as opposed to making confident statements over the internet.   I am naturally inclined to give my business to a company that will involve and respect the customer.   Part of that process is asking questions rather than running with ( and sticking with) assumptions.  While this company may do excellent work, unfortunately in my case I found their CP's "people skills" extremely lacking.
