Recent Review: Work was done timely and professionally. The finished product which replaced a 70 year old sidewalk adds to the good looks of the house. The materials used will assure that the sidewalk lasts longer than the original. The site was kept clean during construction and cleaned up when done.
Recent Review: The workers arrived early with Mr. Padilla. They received last minute instructions for the briefing they'd had at some earlier point. Mr. Padila left to check on another job and popped in periodically to ensure all was going well and to oversee for a bit. During the full day he made probably 5 visits in total. His crew cleaned up beautifully. Re-situated all our potted plants and left a clean tarp over their work to finish drying off over the next 24 hours.

CLANHAM CONSTRUCTION CO INC
Due to rain work was re-scheduled once; however, the ground surrounding the work area was still soft. The crew brought in heavy equipment to break up the old stoop and sidewalk and did severe damage to my lawn. Although they used fill dirt and seed to repair the area, it took me into the fall (and my own re-seeding) to grow my grass back. The crew was able to tear out the old concrete, form , pour the concrete, remove the forms and fill in the damaged area in less than seven hours. The job seemed rushed and what would be expected for commercial and not residential construction, especially with a well groomed yard. The finished project was above average and I must say that after six months it has stood up to the elements and still looks fine. It should be noted that I had read a review on Angies list from a member who had experienced lawn damage from this company but weighed that against the many positive reviews. My advise is to stay away from large contractors and select a smaller contractor who has favorable reviews on Angies list. I received such a bid for this job from one of them, and am sorry I did not select him.

Steve promptly returned my initial call and showed up on time for the estimate. Within 2 days he provided a detailed quote covering the many alternatives that I was considering for my porch & front sidewalk. His quotes were significantly better than several others I had received. The only negative was the timing of the job - we settled on date in late September, but his crew arrived a month early, with no call ahead after my project got mixed up with another customer's. This could have been an issue since I had some tweaks to the design that I had not discussed with Steve yet. Ultimately everything worked out fine, as Steve, his foreman, & his crew were very responsive & the design changes were implemented without a hitch. The work was completed quickly and mess & debris were kept to a minimum. At the end they even mulched & seeded the areas of my yard impacted by the work. The end product turned out very well. Other contractors doing work at my home even commented on the high quality of the masonry work. Overall I'm extremely satisfied with my experience dealing with Steve Simpson Landscaping.

What I gather is that the business was once owned by Sunny Darhele's father, who has passed away, so now it is run by Sunny and his uncle. A co-worker had wonderful work done by the company under its previous ownership a few years ago. They quoted us a price that was impossible to beat, because it was impossible to do the job for that price we discovered. They attempted to alter our contract from what we agreed upon, forgot to show up the day work was supposed to begin (they finally came after my husband called them to ask what was going on). They weren't prepared for the work to be done--they needed a jackhammer to demolish some steps before pouring new ones, but didn't bring it so they had to leave the job to get one. They did about a day of demolition, then we discovered damage to one of our cars that evening when we went out. They had their truck parked right next to the car and had been loading chunks of concrete into it all day with a rickety wheelbarrow, but they swore they didn't do it. They then accused me of attempting to extort them for a car repair, that it had already been damaged and we were trying to trick them. They came over the next morning, Sunny agreed to pay but his uncle overrode him, so we demanded back our full deposit, which they did eventually send. Sunny, as the new owner, doesn't seem to have a good grasp of the type of work he is involved in (cost and process), after that debacle we went with a different company, and it turns out Darhele was going to do the concrete slab layer all wrong anyway, so I guess it was a blessing in disguise...

AMottern Masonry Design
The team at Mottern Masonry was exceptional at providing ideas and recommendations for creating a new pool deck for us. We had to remove an existing pool deck and replace and expand it. Those who worked the job were efficient, hard working, and easy to communicate with. The owner of the company stopped by regularly to check in on the job and make sure we were happy with the progress. He gave solid recommendations on color and shape for the concrete, too. Despite our rainy Seattle weather, they made wise decisions about when it would be best to pour the concrete for the optimal results. In addition to the concrete work, they also finished the landscaping by adding black dirt and seeding grass around the pool. We were happy to have had this great service! Overall, the pool was done quickly and turned out beautifully. We couldn't be happier!
