Reviews in Ellicott City to Install Ponds

AArbor Ridge Services LLC
The crew was very professional. They showed up when they said they would and did the work as Travis had explained. At first we thought the price was high for and quot;just a repairand quot; but they basically started from scratch except for digging the hole. The materials they use are high quality and the new pump and filtration system are very low maintenance. They carefully removed all our fish and tadpoles and placed them in a holding tank with aeration that was almost the volume of our pond. The fish came through the transition just fine and seem to enjoy their new deeper pond with a gushing waterfall. We are very pleased with the pond and believe the improvement was well worth the price.

ARob's Pond Services
Rob's Pond Service did exceptional work on this most recent job. But I also want to emphasize that I have used this company on more than four occasions over the past year. The owner, Rob Lee, is extremely knowledgeable about pond design, construction, and maintenance. The company has done a number of projects, ranging from reinforcing and restructuring my pond design, improving the quality of the water and the health of my koi, installing new equipment, and proving tutorials on basic pond cleaning/maintenance, etc. Rob completes jobs thoroughly and it is clear he enjoys his work. Most importantly, from a customer service perspective, He has repeatedly demonstrated himself to be a highly personable, honest, and accessible pond professional. He dedicates a surprising amount of time to working with his clientele to help them understand their own ponds and how best to care for their aquatic pets. I trust this company and, as a relatively new pond owner, would give this Rob's Pond Service my highest recommendation to family, friends, and co-workers.

I was very impressed with their work ethic. It was unbelievable. They came with several man and a foreman. They went to work immediately. They did an excellent job. The owner was very personable. The bad news, is a few days after they were here the pond, my 3,000 gallon, became murky. I called and was unable to get a hold of them and left several messages. I eventually had to fix the issue on my own. Other than that issue, they did a good job.

The company is extremely professional. Mr. Calland was knowledgable and courteous. I was looking for a "smaller fish in the pond" in order to cut expenses on this project.

Amazing!!! Never has my back yard been so fun. I love watching the fish swim as I listen to the waterfall. They showed up 15 minutes late due to traffic but the finished project more then makes up for it.

I could not be happier!  Nick did an amazing job cleaning the mess that the weather and the seasons had done to my pond.  He was careful with the plantings around the pond, he ran the drain line all the way into the woods and didn't leave anything from the pond laying around on the ground outside of it.  The pond is now sparkling and running just like it should and we can actually see our fish and frogs!

AAquatic Effects
When we originally built the waterfall and pond in our backyard almost ten years ago, little did my wife and I know how much we would come to enjoy it. The relaxing sounds of running water can be very soothing as it blocks out all surrounding neighbor noise, and the beauty of the fish swimming around can erase some of the strains of the day. However, each year we've watched the pond literally fall apart as the smaller rocks around the perimeter seemed to disappear into the pond, and the larger rocks imploded as the foam that held them in place aged and disintegrated. We've enjoyed it so much, we decided to start over and rebuild. However, this time we were a little more knowledgeable in approaching the process. We knew about the hassles of filter box cleaning & maintenance, the disadvantages of the skimmer type pump vs alternatives, and that while it may be cheaper to simply stack the rocks and use foam, it's not the same as a masonry setting of mortar. The first step was to distinguish between a landscaping company (LSC) that will build a waterfall and pond, vs. a company that only builds waterfalls and ponds. The setup we're replacing was built by a LSC, and while it was very nice on day one, it was held together by spray foam, the rocks were too small, and the top skimmer fed box created variety of issues including not being able to have smaller fish. We discussed the project with several LSC's, and after getting several quotes, we realized it appeared we were simply getting another version of what we already had, and most likely a repeat of the same exact problems. Then we had Steve from Aquatic Effects come out and offer a quote and opinion on how it could be improved upon. It immediately became apparent that Steve was literally an expert in the area of ponds, waterfalls, fish, and associated plants and landscaping of water features. What he outlined was not simply a liner and pond kit that many LSC utilize, but rather, a custom package that was extremely comprehensive and much in depth project than we originally anticipated. However, as we really thought it through the differences became crystal clear, from his knowledge of filtering systems for e-z once-a-week maintenance, to his understanding of the construction aspects, to the mortar setting of stones vs foam and stacking, the choice was obvious who we wanted to handle the undertaking. It started on Day 1 with setup, and removal of our fish from pond and the placement of them into tanks where they would reside throughout the several weeks of construction (happy to report all survived the ordeal). Next the dismantling of the current pond and waterfall with careful laying out of how all the large stones were positioned in another area of the yard. As they got done to the old liner and we could really see what was there, Steve discussed several options and recommendations as to how he thought it could even be enhanced to another level with some minor tweaks. We left it in his hands, as the ideas he shared sounded really interesting. Throughout the project, Steve and his team were professional, punctual, and most important of all, Steve really knew his stuff! As he changed the pitch of the waterfall levels, power-washed area's for aging visual, and chiseled rocks to alter the water flow to get the most dramatic effect, we could really see the artistic side of the pond building trade. It's way more then a liner, filter, and a few rocks. When the job was complete, my wife and I were blown away. It looks so natural and rustic you would think it's been there for years and was created by nature. The mortar setting it is so solid there's no doubt it will far more durable and will look almost the same tens years from now. The more attractive visual of plumbing all be embedded into mortar, out of site, and beautiful lighting making it dramatic in the evening. The new filtration makes maintenance nothing by comparison to what we used to do, and it so realistic it literally looks like something you might see at a zoo as a display with wild animals. We couldn't be happier, and the fish appear to feel the same way! Suggest anyone looking to either build a pond for the first time, or if you've become a pond lover and are rebuilding, contact Steve, and simply have him out to discuss your project. We're pretty confident you will see the same difference my wife and I did.

My pond is the healthiest it's ever been, I don't know if it's because of backyard ponds, or whatever? But I now have baby fish about 12 of them and I am going to hire them to do my winterization. I got a very professional reminder from backyard ponds in the mail today, and I really appreciate the reminder. Sometimes things like this slip your mind, but it's very nice that they remind you that winter is coming up, and you need to plan for the future. My fish are not expensive, because this is a newly renovated pond. But I'm very happy with the job that they did, and I will recommend them in the future. And I will be using them very soon

Recent Review: Definitely would recommend First Impressions. Mike Waters submitted computer drawing, and photos of other pool deck with pavers. Coordinated with pool renovator, who installed coping stones. Work was on time, clean, and professional. John Morgado offered great recommendations during the job, and patiently explained options and answered our questions. They were careful to not damage any landscaping around the deck, and during delivery. We added an additional job to replace the front walk while they were on site. John correctly recommended flagstone instead of pavers, to complement our home exterior. Our neighbor was impressed and had John Morgado replace their walk also.

Recent Review: Vinyl Pool leaked out half of its water during the winter. I called Excalibur to set up an appointment. Christine came out with all of her equipment and told me the pool was leaking almost 2 inches a day. She scanned the pool electronically found a couple of small holes and then put on a dry suit to do a visual inspection. Took her 2 hours with all the electronic and visual inspection and found a hole in the deep end. She repaired it and reran the leak test and it showed no leakage. The pool is now holding water and it was definitely worth the money as I didn't have to replace a vinyl liner this year.

Recent Review: Woody was the upfront partner who presented the estimate and make suggestions for the design of our pond. His customer service posture was exceptional. Work began three days after the contract was signed and Woody, his partner Ralph, and their two workers showed up exactly on time. Instead of just digging a hole and laying a liner in it, Beaver Pond used nearly 12,000 pounds of large, medium and small boulders, rocks and gravel to complete the project. A high quality skimmer and bio falls filter, and numerous underwater lights were used along with a sufficient quantity of mulch and driftwood to finish the project. Woody and crew (Ralph is the workhorse, working like a true craftsman) placed each rock and boulder with great precision - like artists, carving a sculpture. Gravel filled all the spaces between the rocks resulting in one of the most natural looking garden ponds I have ever seen! This is my first review on Angie's List and I am not sure if my email is included. If so, contact me and I will be happy to send you photos of our new pond. Beaver Pond's work is first class and of the highest quality and I highly recommend them if you are considering having any landscaping work performed.

Recent Review: The work went extremely well. Nick is a real pleasure to deal with. He's honest, professional, courteous, extremely knowledgeable, and always timely. He gave me an estimate for the work July 2008. I contacted him in May 2009 to get him under contract. He updated his original proposal to reflect changes in some prices, and he cautioned me that he noticed a crack in the pool that he would need to get a better look at before he would continue. His folks drained the pool and inspected it. They found some structural damages near and around the pool seat. Nick called me and scheduled a meeting so he could share with me what he found. He met me at the pool at the appointed time and took his time to explain the situation and to pose several alternatives to address it. We selected to have him repair the structural damage, and then continue with the new tile and the re-plastering work as prescribed in our contract. Nick gave me a verbal estimate of the change in price to repair the structural damage, and upon my concurrence, he proceeded with the work. The work was frequently interrupted by the rain we had in the Washington area during mid-June 2009. Nevertheless, Nick finished the work in a timely manner and went beyond the contracted scope to arrange for delivery of pool water, and to schedule my normal pool service provide, Potomac Aquatics, to open the pool the afternoon of the day the pool water was delivered. The invoice Nick sent me was clear, self-explanatory, and met the price he verbally quoted me. It was a real pleasure doing business with Nick and his folks. They were diligent when working and always cleaned-up after their day of work. I HIGHLY recommend Watermark Swimming Pool Services for anyone looking for an honest, reliable, knowledgeable, and professional pool repair contractor. When you hire Nick and his folks you know you will be in good hands.
