Business Description: In 1993, after having been in the remodeling industry for over ten years, I found myself disillusioned. Although I loved the business of making people happy by helping to improve their home, I felt that the industry was living up to it’s less than stellar reputation. At the time, I was employed with one of the more reputable remodeling firms in Baltimore. They were placing more emphasis on getting the “sale” as opposed to delivering customer satisfaction. It became “promise anything to get the job, and then deliver as little as possible to protect profits.” Further, service was kept to a minimum because they applied more of a band-aid approach. This approach would temporarily mend a problem until the one-year installation warranty (required by law) ran out. Quality of products and pride in workmanship seemed to be gone by era. When the product did fail, whether due to manufacturing or installation, the finger pointing started and the homeowner was stuck in the middle. Why couldn't a homeowner find a remodeling company to perform the work they promised and stand behind that work? When a homeowner needed service on that remodeling project that they invested their hard earned money in, why did they always have to get the run around? Why did they have to pay for a service that should have been right in the first place? These were questions I posed to my wife. Her response was, “Joe, for homeowners to find that, you would have to start a company of your own.” That response launched the beginning of American Design and Build. The concept was simple; offer the highest quality windows, doors, siding and sunrooms. In addition, have each of those installed only by experts in each of their respected fields. Offer the products at the lowest possible price, and support the products, labor and materials, for as long as the manufacturers’ warranty. In other words, the product would perform as promised now and in the future and there would never be a charge for service. That was the concept in our dining room ten years ago. Others in the industry told me that I was crazy, that the service cost would put us out of business. Well, homeowners embraced the concept and referrals streamed in. These homeowners wanted their friends and relatives to “experience” American Design and Build. Fourteen years later, we no longer work out of our dining room. In fact, we recently moved from our 1200 square foot office building in Jarrettsville to our 6500 square foot state of the art showroom in Bel Air. One thing that has not changed is our original concept. In fact, our showroom is another step towards making a remodeling project with American Design and Build a unique and pleasurable “experience.” We really do believe in “restoring the pride in your home for today… and tomorrow.” I invite you to stop by our showroom today or get your free in-home estimate. Experience for yourself why American Design and Build is referred more often than any other remodeling company in the state.

Recent Review: Zowd is a great contractor to work with. After getting estimates from other contractors including one that was family, Zowds was the one closest to what I knew it should cost. They never asked about the budget till after they presented the estimate. The others asked up front and their estimates were at the top of the budget. This left no room for anything that may go wrong or for any additional work. The Addition to the house was within budget which allowed us to get the Bathroom, three bedrooms, and our office area which the previous owners built and did a botched job on redone as well. I have rehired them currently to build my garage and will rehire to finish up the rest of the house. We also had them repurpose a door into a barn door to go in the new Addition. The door turned out 100 times better then anything I could have bought. I highly recommend hireing them for any construction projects you may have or are planning. Any issues I’ve had they have been very responsive to in resolving quickly. They will be my go to contractor for all my housing construction needs.

Recent Review: We needed a new garage door to replace a 32 year-old door to go with new vinyl siding. We called George Cook who we used before to install a new garage door for a carport. We picked out a style and color and George ordered it and installed it before the siding was completed, and came back to install the trim afterwards. We think it looks great and are very happy with the work that George does. He is always pleasure to deal with and I highly recommend him.

Reviews in Dundalk to Build Carports

AAlan's Factory Outlet
Three workmen arrived at 7:am on the scheduled date and were gone by10:30. They knew what they were doing and assembled the pre-cut materials like an erector set. The carport was anchored into the ground to withstand hurricane winds. The materials are very good quality..

AWENKAT DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION
Work started when expected, and the schedule was adjusted for some bad weather, and progressed at a rapid pace and completed very near the date expected. Some minor adjustments were made to the design to address Baltimore County code requirements that were not clear by that office at the time the initial design was submitted for the permit.  These changes were handled, and work completed and in compliance. Overall, I was very pleased with the final results.

The provider forgot our first scheduled appointment and had to reschedule. He showed up on time to the rescheduled appointment. He did not greet me upon arrival. He took measurements and got the information he needed and promised a quote by Monday (this was on a Friday). It's been more than a week later and I have not heard anything back.

AWENKAT DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION
We hired Brian to help us design, plan for, and build our custom home. Brian exceeded our expectations throughout the entire process. Not only is he incredibly meticulous with details, timelines, and communication, he also lives into meeting or exceeding those expectations. The quality of team members and subcontractors he works with were well-orchestrated, professional, and equally meticulous. Beyond our perceived high level of quality craftsmanship, we have had countless neighbors, past clients, and even inspectors, highlight and call out the quality of Brian's craftsmanship and professionalism. Building a house - or taking on a smaller project - is a long process. We are incredibly grateful for the time and attention Brian provided in building our home.

AMARROCCO'S STAMPED CONCRETE
We received estimates from three contractors, and talked to two more at home-improvement events.  Of the three that we asked to give us estimates, Doug, from Marrocco's impressed us the most with his explanation of the process, the type and depth of concrete used.  He also had samples of the colors and stamp patterns.  Our son is a licensed concrete inspector -- he told us what we should look for.  Doug hit all the check boxes.  The cost of the job was higher than the other contractors, but we felt that the Marrocco approach sounded better, and Marrocco's also proposed using a thicker pad of concrete on the driveway and carport, which more closely aligned with what they were removing.  When we agreed on the terms for the work, they were ready to schedule us almost immediately.  However, we had a short delay obtaining the county permit to replace the driveway apron.  The crew began work on a Monday morning.  They worked at least 12 hours breaking up and removing the old concrete, and removing the old brick and timber stoop.  They had multiple dumpsters delivered and removed during the demolition.  The next day they laid in the gravel, rebar, wire mesh; put in all of the frames, etc.  It was again at least a 12 hour day.  On the day of the concrete pour, there were at least 8 men working, including the company owner.  A couple of the men came and went, but most of them were there all day.  The color and stamp process was fascinating to watch.  And the workmen carefully went over most of the lines with hand tools.  It was almost dark when they left -- and they had started before 8AM.  A couple of days later, a crew came back to remove the forms, power wash the concrete and cut in expansion joints.  They came another day to make adjustments to the carport posts and to clean up the site.  The final step was to apply a sealant, which happened a few days after the washing.   All in all, the job took about 10 days to complete, including one or two days between a couple of the steps. All of the workmen from the crews that came to our house were very professional and worked really hard for very long days.  The work looks wonderful and is exactly what we wanted.

ABEILER'S STRUCTURES
After comparing several vendors and their prices, Beiler's Structures offered the lowest price for a 8 x 8 "Amish" shed to be built on-site at my home. I was pleased with every aspect of the purchase, beginning with the customer service when ordering the shed. On build day, three gentlemen arrived and built the shed (some was pre-assembled) in less than 2 hours. The quality is great and I'm quite pleased. I'd do it again if I had to.

ABattaglia Homes
We couldn't be happier with our Battaglia Home. The quality is superb. Any questions or concerns we had throughout the build process were addressed by Battaglia until we were satisfied. We found Battaglia when one of the larger "custom" builders in the area wasn't so custom after all and weren't willing to work with us on simple things like a front porch and a mud room. From the beginning, we could tell Battaglia was flexible, informative, and dedicated to a quality product. We've heard from many people who worked with other builders that once the contract is signed the builder wouldn't change anything after that. It was the opposite with Battaglia. They worked with us fluidly to accommodate our change requests and to make sure we were happy. We moved in a couple months ago and just couldn't be happier with our home. Thank you so much to Ben, Chris, and the entire family. You guys are great, and its no surprise that your company is growing based on the quality of the work you do. If you want to have a home you absolutely love and work with a company who won't settle until you are delighted, these are the guys to go with. Thanks again.

ADonald A Johnson Homebuilder
We were building a custom home with a DIFFERENT contractor- about a third of the way through, we realized that the contractor was using horrible materials on our home and the workmanship was extremely poor. We had to take legal action to fire the contractor - our house was in horrible shape - we needed a new contractor to not only fix our house but to finish it.  We hired Don Johnson. Don took on a huge job - a 5,000 square foot mess. Our home had to be torn apart and put back together. Don worked diligently for two months renovating our home to then complete the building of our home.  Our home is now everything we dreamed of. Don Johnson is a honest, hardworking, caring, very talented, and ethical builder ... not easy to find. We have learned through our experience that most Homebuilding companies hire people to watch over their job sites ... then they drive from job site to job site overseeing the houses they are building.  Don is different ... he only builds 2-3 houses  year ... he is at his houses everyday - with his tool belt on - working right along with the craftsman building the home.  Every person ... from the framer to the painter is extremely talented and has worked with Don on every house he has built for years. Don knows how to build a home ... not just manage the building of one.  Don not only builds a beautiful home - but builds a home that is made with the finest of materials and workmanship.  From start to finish - the experience was great.  Don makes the experience of what building a home should be - a great one.
