Recent Review: Just completed a kitchen remodeling and wanted to insulate the crawl space under the kitchen. Mr. Basement sealed off the vented crawl space and encapsulated the ground up to the rim joints with their "white space" material. Plus, they sprayed foam insulation at the rim joints. Not only did I get in insulated crawl space, I now have additional temperature controlled storage space. They did a very professional job with quality materials.

Recent Review: The gentleman looked over my problem and gave me advice that I am unable to followup on, i.e., ripping out a newly installed floor and encapsulating the crawl space.  I will ventilate it instead.

Recent Review: UPDATED. Let me start by saying that when I bought by house, the basement would flood with every rain storm. Then, I got downspouts fixed up, and then it would be a little damp after each rain storm, maybe a puddle in the corner. After budget waterproofing came, my basement has been dry. So, satisfied customer, right? Well the only issue was a misunderstanding between the sales person and the team doing the job. The sales man was a nice guy, who promised everything would be great and he would get me a great price for the work. He said it would be "glass board" running 4 feet up the walls (he did explain that this was tiles made of plastic). He showed me pictures of what the finished work would like, he emphasized the great deal they offered on these premium quality products. We agreed to $5500 total quote. Then a few weeks later, when the team came to do the work, they said that these plastic glassboard panels would not work on my kind of foundation, that was "really just for concrete block walls. Instead, we should put up high quality "fiber-reinforced sheeting." Well, they did, and it works. Not the best aesthetic result, but will work with lifetime guarantee, they say. They suggested I could put up drywall and really finish it, and I think I will. There has not been a drop in the 6 months since I did the work. I complained about the appearance and the fact they it was nothing like what they had told me during the sales pitch. They said the materials they used were good and the price difference for using this reinforced plastic sheet material was only $250 less that putting up the panels. They also gave me a further $200 discount for the misunderstanding regarding glassboard. All I said, it looks like it will keep out the water, but will have to put up drywall over it to achieve a finished look.

Recent Review: The crew performed the work over three days. This included installing sump pumps, French drains, vapor barrier, and spray foam. They also installed a vent and routed a down spout into the yard. The crawl space under my house is no longer flooding and doesn't smell musty anymore. Whenever it rains I can hear the sump pumps doing their job making me feel better that the water is being managed properly. I would highly recommend value dry to anyone needing any kind of flooding issues.

Reviews in Bel Air to Encapsulate Crawl Spaces

CAll Aspects Waterproofing
A rep came out to look at my house's crawl space for moisture and a possible crawl space encapsulation. He told me that I needed to run my AC more and get crawl space window vents fans (this is in direct contrast to 2 other estimators who independently said that outside air contributes to crawl space moisture). He also discussed burying my downspouts (I thought this was a great idea) and was going to send an estimate. Never heard another word. It seemed like he knew about waterproofing but not about crawl space moisture issues.

AValue Dry Waterproofing
We are very pleased. They were top of the line in punctuality and professionalism. I only rated them a B for Price and Quality because I do not have the background to say whether they were an A - but I have no concerns at all for how they did the job and would certainly employ them again. My wife was not enthusiastic to have to sit in on the original presentation, but afterward said that she was very glad that she did - she learned a great deal about the benefits of the installation that she could not envision previously

FValue Dry Waterproofing
I had my crawl space encapsulated by another company, not Value Dry. Unfortunately, this company does not install crawl space doors. I contacted Value Dry and clearly explained I was in need of crawl space doors only.  They scheduled to have an associate come out to provide an estimate for installing doors only. The associate that came to my home was very direct about the fact (which I appreciate) that Value Dry requires a minimum cost to do any work of $2,700. Keep in mind, I paid that much to have the entire crawl space encapsulated. Value Dry was aware that $2,700 is too much for simply installing doors, but refused to tell this to me over the phone when I explained the scope of work. Instead they chose to waste my time and the time of their associate to tell me the job is too small. Very disappointed.

BBasement Systems USA
The person who responded and showed up was very courteous and professional.  He walked me through how there was nothing we needed to be concerned about with regard to the foundation cracks that we have and suggested some ways to make them more visually appealing.  I was pleased that there was no attempt to sell me anything related to the cracks and that the inspector made an honest assessment of how nothing needed to be done. The inspector also provided me with an estimate for sealing our crawlspace with a product called "clean space".  I didn't request this product and it was a bit of a sales pitch - including a canned video demonstrating the product.  However, the estimate was reasonable if it was something I was interested in doing, and I would definitely call this company if we ever decided that we needed the crawl space encapsulated (to reduce mold, moisture and make it a clean storage space).  The inspector also encouraged us to purchase a dehumidifier to help address some of the humidity issues in our basement / crawlspace.  We did that and it has made a marked improvement in the comfort of our (finished) basement and attached storage area.   Overall I was very happy with the service, just wish the inspector had dialed down the sales pitch a little for the crawl space encapsulation system.  But I understand that these discounted inspections (I purchased the inspection as a "big deal" on angie's list) are a way to get in the door and provide an opportunity to introduce potential customers to their range of products.

DEco Pro Restoration
I took an offer from the email list. They did not complete the job as specified. It took them 3 visits, but they never actually accomplished the task. The first time, they reported that they saw an animal in the crawl space, and said they'd return after we got rid of it. So I sealed the two ventilation openings and put out a Hav-a-hart trap (and didn't trap anything) and called them back. They came and said one of their workers was too big to work in our crawl space, so they'd need to return with a slimmer person. The next time, they came and laid some plastic loosely, but didn't tape it, and claimed that since there were two layers of plastic, we'd have no further problems. But they certainly did nothing to seal out the elements.

AMaryland Mold and Waterproofing
Entire process was as smooth as a project like this could be. Wendy thoroughly inspected and documented my crawl space mold, drainage, and moisture issues. She tediously reviewed my project and provided a variety of options. The crews that came out (1 - mold remediation/cleanup and 2 - encapsulation) were professional, prompt, clean, and responsive to questions I asked. MM&W isn't the cheapest company but they are the best and I would hire again...although I hope I don't ever need to.

AValue Dry Waterproofing
I had a great experience with Value Dry.  From George the salesman to Jamal the installer to Jim the owner they were upfront, courteous, and professional.  They were a little more expensive than others we talked to but based on what I got for the price I am more than satisfied.  They did everything we discussed and even added a couple of little extra things to make things better than we expected.  I would definitely use them again if needed and would recommend them.

AMaryland Mold and Waterproofing
The work went very well. As noted in my ratings, MM&W was very professional, and did excellent work. They were punctual and polite and cleaned up at the end of each day. We needed a bit of follow up work (one dehumifier did not drain properly), and MM&W returned the day after I called and fixed it right up. I won't say it was cheap, but all materials appear very durable. The Santa Fe dehumidifiers are commercial grade and are suspended from floor joists, not sitting on the crawl space floor. I now can go into the two crawl spaces without wearing a dust mask and I do not notice any mold or mildew odors. I'll wait until the upcoming Maryland summer to pass final judgement on the effectiveness of the encapsulation, but do note that our heating ducts are not in the crawl spaces, so until now the crawl spaces remained pretty humid even in winter.

ABASEMENT UNLIMITED
Cliff couldn't have been nicer. When I explained that the house's sellers wanted an estimate of how much it would cost to protect it against water infiltration and mold, he sketched out a picture and explained step by step all of the repairs that could be needed. He provided me with a very detailed, tiered estimate that I felt comfortable passing along to the sellers. What I liked most about Cliff and Basement Unlimited is the straightforward answers he gave me--he addressed the problem I wanted fixed and didn't beat around the bush about what that could entail. He explained WHY he recommended what he did in a clear way that made sense to someone who is very unfamiliar with home improvement. He also offered to speak with the sellers should they have any additional questions. If the sellers decide to fix the mold issue, I'll recommend that they choose Cliff to do the work!

AJES Foundation Repair
JES Construction (Manassas, VA) was the best overall value of the four companies that I considered.  Two were higher price.  One was slightly lower. To a man, the 3-man crew was hard working and clearly knew what they were doing.  After crawling around in a dark, cold crawl space for 8-10 hours for four days they remained happy, friendly and courteous.  To finish on schedule JES sent a second 3-man crew (total of six men) the last day. The job supervisor engaged with me throughout; first to explain what they would be doing and throughout the week to answer any questions that I had or to seek my concurrence on any number of issues like where the sump pump drain line should be located.  It was a pleasure dealing with these men. The products they used (Basement Systems...a nationwide firm) appeared to be top quality.  For example the Clearspace vinyl sheeting used for encapsulating was thicker (20 mil) than what others proposed using.  The SuperSump sump pumps and the SaniDry dehumidifier similarly appear to be top quality. The day after the work was complete the job supervisor sent me over a hundred pictures of the job showing what was there before and what they did...pretty cool! It would have been helpful if they had an electrician to come by the last day to add the necessary receptacle(s) for the dehumidifier and sump pumps but it was clearly spelled out in the contract that was my responsibility.   Otherwise, as a very reluctant buyer initially I was very pleased with JES.
