Recent Review: Outstanding job, meticulous from start to finish; prompt estimate from Will, and they began the job almost immediately. Appreciated the advice and insight regarding color choices, finishes, etc, as I'm severely taste-impaired ... Bob (Job Foreman) kept me updated as to how the job was progressing, including when issues came up (as they always will!) and my options for addressing them. Every effort was made to ensure I knew what was happening, why, and that it met with my approval. Really put the finishing touch on my updated kitchen - looking forward to the next time I can use their services. Well-named company ...

Recent Review: I contacted Bryan Kennedy, the owner of Abracadabra, from Angie's List when I began looking for various people to renovate the condo my husband and I were moving to. Bryan immediately answered my e-mail and showed up to give me an estimate within a couple days. Over the years of getting work done when we owned a house, I learned that people who respond quickly and show up on time usually turn out to be skilled at what they do. This was true with Bryan and his crew of excellent painters. During our first meeting when I asked if Bryan knew of anyone who could manage our renovations and start fairly soon and within a short time frame. Bryan gave me the name of AJ Wheeler. He turned out to be an outstanding contractor, and I've praised to the skies on Angie's List now that the job is complete. I'll repeat here what I said in my AJ review: good people know good people. Bryan and AJ coordinated their schedules, and the painting went very smoothly. They both professional, polite, skilled, and happen to be outstanding men as well.  Two of Bryan's assistants did most of the work, though one of my last sights of Bryan was him hanging off the tub as he did the bathroom grouting! Bryan along with Nadia and Tim, his assistants for this job, were so orderly. At the end of each day when I showed up at the condo, the paint cans were lined up, the brushes wrapped, the kitchen cabinet doors all lined up in order--no mess. Not only that, the crew did the baseboard painting after we had new wood floors installed. There is not a single drop of paint on those floors--not a speck! At the very end, when there were one or two tiny things that needed finishing up,  Bryan came right back.   I'll repeat here what I said in AJ's review, the client--that would be me--has to be organized as well. I made sure to have all my paint picks done before Byran's team ever showed up. When I saw that one of my colors didn't work, I immediately ran out and got another color. They were on a schedule, so I had to be as well. Very important: I had a typed master list of what colors went where. I also taped up big black marker signs in each room. This system worked perfectly, and all the different colors wound up in the right locations. So there was a partnership. I have to say, dealing with someone who's as business-like and courteous as Bryan adds so much to the experience. Both he and AJ made the renovations go so smoothly. We haven't moved in yet so I don't have photos, but our place looks gorgeous already. Kudos to Angie's List as well. I started with Abracadabra, which led me to AJ Wheeler and the electricians and plumbers AJ deals with. So thank you, Bryan. And thank you Nadia (especially for leading me to the final, perfect yellow for the sunroom) and Tim. It was a pleasure dealing with all of you.

FCertaPro Painters of Pioneer Valley
After receiving several quotes, I decided to go with Certa Pro.  My decision was based upon many things.  Although I have my own painter that has done beautiful work for me in the past, I went with Certa Pro because in the presentation, I was told that "our team" will come in and make sure that all materials will be stored carefully each evening, that the team leader would give me periodic updates, and that they would be experienced workers.  I didn't want to have a project that was going to take weeks, so I didn't hire my painter since he works alone.  I signed the contract and then after a short while, I receive a call saying that my project would start at the beginning of August.  I wasn't home when the job began, but within one hour, I received a call from the "team leader" (who turned out to be the ONLY painter that was assigned to my project) who informed me that "If I wanted to have a smooth, professional looking surface on the clapboard" scraping and priming wasn't enough.  He said that grinding the surface was what would make the job look beautiful.. at an additional cost of $500.00!  Well, I wanted my house to look beautiful, so I agreed to the additional price.. even though in the brochure I was given by Certa Pro it clearly says "No hidden costs".  From there the entire project went down hill.  This painter would come and go at will, and never showed up at 9 a.m. and left at 5 p.m.  For three days the painter never showed up at all but left his stepladder open on my lawn near the side of my home.  My windows were in bad condition and needed to be re-caulked.  This repair was quoted in the original price, so I was happy.  I came home one day from work to find that my windows were painted.. WITH THE WINDOWS CLOSED AND THE GLAZING AS CHIPPED AND CURLED AS IT HAD BEEN.   He didn't caulk and he didn't open the windows to paint them.  They were all sealed shut by the paint and when I forced them open, they chipped at the edges.  I complained many times of the awful job on the windows, and the painter's response is that if I wanted to have them done right, it was going to cost me an additional $100.00.. PER WINDOW!!! When the painter was spraying my kitchen ceiling, I again was at work.  When I came home, I found ceiling popcorn residue in my bathtub and deep scratches in the tub itself.  My painter refused to accept that he did this and I had to get the owner of CertaPro to assist me in getting this repaired.  I could go on and on.. Front doors painted open but closed while still wet so when you opened them, the paint stuck to the frame; ruining the painted surface.. He broke my expensive vase in my screen porch and did not even say he was sorry...  He left my shutters that were on the stone surface of my home hanging haphazardly with the screws not flush to the wall... (again I was told by him that if I wanted him to replace the screws and have to shutters hung correctly that I would have to pay him on the side his hourly rate until the job was done)..  This simple project took almost THREE MONTHS to finish. There's more but I'm sure you are tired of reading all of this.   Bottom line,  The owner of Certa Pro is very professional, but beware of whom he sends to you for your painting needs.  I would highly recommend that you go to customers that this "painter" has already serviced and talk to the owners.. get their experience first hand...  I wish I had.
