Business Description: J&L Contractors is a construction company focused on residential remodeling and new construction. Emilio Jr. Batista and Leo Alves started out as sub-contractors working for a variety of different contractors over the years. Projects include remodeling and building new homes, bathrooms, complete kitchen remodeling, and design. Because we have worked for many different companies in the past, we have extensive experience with remodeling virtually every type of home. We have been remodeling homes for about 5 years, and built new homes for about 3 years prior to that. We service cities and towns such as Marblehead, Swampscott, Salem, Reading, North Reading, Woburn, Andover, North Andover, and the Boston area as well. We also rely on a very experienced team of designers who are ready to meet you and to help you envision your dream kitchen, bathroom, deck, etc. In other words, we are here to turn your house into your dream house. Although we have been on Angies list for quite sometime, we have not spent much time writting about our company online. For the past 7 years we have focused on working in the field ourselves, working hands-on building homes and remodeling, turning "this old house" into your new dream home! We recently decided to launch a campaign to let our business be known on Angie's List and to expand our company over the internet. Our mission it is to do the job right, to the best of our ability and knowledge, without cutting corners, and doing things by the book. Think twice, do it once! Measure twice, cut once! That is our goal.

Back in August of 2017 my hot water tank went. It had destroyed my 2 yr old daughters bedroom and my bathroom. I have been trying to find contractors to come to my home to give me an estimate on how much it would cost me to have it done. I had several come and looked at it and said we will be in contact with you. Not a single contractor got back to ud. I have had not hot water since this happen. I found Richard on here. Told him my sorry on what was going on and this guy drove from Weymouth to wareham the next day. Walked with my husband and contacted me the same day and walked me through what was going to happen. then he told me about this Dropbox app that we were going to use so we could communicate on everything. I could literally see everything he was changing or doing to. I how highly recommend him for other people. I would also higher him again for myself in the future. Thank you very much Richard

ARyan Home Service
My mom had water damage to her mobile home.  The damage was severe and we had to move her out of the house to have the floors re-done.  Jack Ryan came in to give an estimate which was right in my ballpark.  He was so helpful helping me understand the insurance side as well.  He busted his butt to get the job done in under two weeks so we could get my elderly mother back into her house that she loves.  The floor looks great and she is ecstatic about it.  Jack also had to do work under the mobile home in a very confined space (repairing insulation, covers, etc.).  He also found another leak that was causing more water damage and helped me figure out that it was the park owner's responsibility, saving me more money.  All throughout the project Jack was helpful in saving us money and giving great advice in dealing with the insurance company.  I will DEFINITELY hire him in the future to do work at my house.  He is intelligent, communicative and respectful.  He does great work and the clean up after is such that you wouldn't know he was there. He was terrific to my mom and she is thrilled with him and the work he did. Thanks Jack!!

ABurt Builders
I signed the contract in April, 2013. He kept putting off starting due to other projects. Bob said that they would start in mid June, then early July. He sent a couple workers over in early July to tear down the summer room. They did this, but left part of the roof attached to the mobile home and I never saw them again. Not only that but they left a big pile of scrap on my lawn. I told Bob in early August that I would have to seek a legal avenue. His workers started in early August and finished the room on September 20. About a total of 7 weeks working on the project.  The actual work done is very good! I am satisfied with the job they did. The only problem I had was the above delays. I realize that he probably has many projects. My advise is choose Burt if you are not in a hurry to get the work done. And have a place to store the contents of an existing room. All my furniture and stuff in my summer room is in my mobile home. Which makes it kinda crowded.

AArtistry Bath Works
Angel Pan was a godsend for us. We had originally hired another contractor to remodel a home we had recently purchased and he disappeared with our $$ after doing about 2 weeks worth of work. When I called Angel, I was desperate--4 months pregnant with a home that was mostly gutted and exposed to the elements in February. When we met, Angel was professional, knowledgeable, and was willing to do work before I had my baby in July. Angel provided me with an extremely detailed estimate where I knew exactly what I would be receiving and how any changes would impact the bottom line. His prices are extremely reasonable and very competitive. Once Angel got to work, he would provide us with detailed updates and pointed out any issues he encountered along the way. I have detailed the work we had done below, but long story short: he turned a nightmare situation into our dream home. We didn't even think we could afford to live in our town, much less with a brand new completely remodeled home. Angel brought our vision to life and remodeled and reconfigured spaces to work for us. If you are still reading this, please give him a call and meet him yourself. I've referred Angel to several people after they have visited our home and I personally know he does excellent work and stands by his word. Shout out to his subs - John the electrician (super quirky but one of my favorite people--he cracks me up), Matt the plumber, and Gege and his painting crew. I would hire any one of these people for work in the future. Work performed: All new plumbing (pex) supply lines All new HW baseboard heat in each room All new electrical wiring with outlets/switches LED recessed lighting in most of the home All new insulation in the entire house Structural work in crawl spaces and attic - reinforced an addition done in the 70s Walls/Ceiling & Plaster Paint entire interior Baseboard, Door and Window Trim - Interior 2.5 brand new bathrooms with floor and wall tile work, bathtub, toilets, sinks, gorgeous custom master shower, custom master mirror and shower door Brand new kitchen - tile and hardwood floors Installed hardwood flooring in part of the home, matched to the original flooring and re-stained entire house to look cohesive Built brand new basement stairs Brand new 7' wide stairs leading to our family room Raised (cathedral) ceiling in study to create open feeling Angel and his crew turned a dilapidated house into a beautiful home for me and my family. Everything described above was included in the cost below. I don't have any pictures at the moment of the finish work, but if you are considering him, give me a call (Laura) and I'll show you the amazing work he's done for us. Thank you Angel for everything.

ABob Batchelder Superior Builders
Bob Batchelder is an amazing contractor.  I can't imagine a better choice for a homeowner looking to get the most value for their investment. At first glance he's not the cheapest, but when we compared his proposal to those from other respected builders, we found that he had included contingency amounts (fully refundable if not needed) for plumbing and electrical problems he anticipated in bringing our 90 year old home up to code. His proposal also assumed quality materials and methods appropriate to our home and market, where others had cut corners.  He won't try to up-sell you with trivial enhancements, but he insists on quality and is not willing to produce a sub-standard result. During the course of our project Bob proposed cost effective ways to fix other problems and make other improvements. He wasn't pushing to increase the project scope, but hate's to ignore problems that can be fixed more cheaply during construction than later. For example, after tearing out the ceiling of our downstairs bathroom he noticed that the slope of the now exposed upstairs bathtub drain was too shallow by several degrees and would not drain properly. We confirmed that it had been a problem for years. He saw the problem, his plumber fixed it easily, and our monthly draino budget has gone to zero. We have numerous similar examples of things he fixed or improved because he is experienced, alert, and cares about quality. Scheduling: Through the worst winter Boston has seen Bob kept our project on track. The success was in part because he's an experienced planner, realistic, honest with himself and his customers, and driven to deliver.  If he says he can do it, he will. His network of experienced tradesmen is another success factor for him. They want to work with him. They know he expects quality work, and they appreciate the opportunity to do things right. They call him "Quality Bob"! They know he meets his schedule commitments and expects them to do the same. They show up on time and do excellent work. Bottom Line: Bob is a great craftsman and problem solver, and he's a fun to work with. My wife and I are always happy to see him.  How many people can say that about their contractor?  But in the end for Bob it's about delivering value. Everyone who's seen our remodeled home is blown away by the result.  Everything is square, everything lines up, there are no squeaks or mistakes we have to look at and try to forget.  If we sold today I'm convinced we'd get back every penny we've invested and then some, but the house is so nice now we have trouble thinking that way. By the way, with respect to those contingency amounts in the proposal, Bob was a little high on  plumbing and a little low on electrical. It was a wash.  The other contractors would have presented these as unanticipated expenses necessary to meet current building codes.  With Bob there were no surprises.
