Reviews in Destrehan for Installing Retaining Walls

The engineer was on time for our appointment.  Now for the bad part of the review: When I called to schedule the report, the lady on the phone said that the report would take 2-3 days to be written. The gentleman who did the inspection said it would take a week. After two weeks I had not heard from them so I called them to see when they expected it to be done. They said it would be done that afternoon. I had not received it by the next morning, so I called again and was again told that I would get it by the end of the day. The next morning (Wednesday), I told them that if I didn't have it by Friday I would just take my money back. I did not hear back from them again. Tuesday morning I showed up and they quickly cut me a refund check for $495. The guy who prints the refund check was very polite, fast and efficient. Maybe he should be in charge of getting the reports written.

CINDY IS INCREDIBLY THOROUGH, PROFESSIONAL, AND HELPFUL. HER REPORT WAS EXTREMELY DETAILED AND VERY NICELY DONE. SHE WORKED ALL WEEKEND OVER A HOLIDAY WEEKEND TO COMPLETE IT, SINCE WE WERE UNDER TIME PRESSURE. SHE IS VERY SYMPATHETIC, AND MAKES SURE YOU UNDERSTAND EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING AT EACH STEP IN THE PROCESS. SHE IS EXTREMELY RECEPTIVE TO QUESTIONS. I CAN'T IMAGINE HAVING A BETTER EXPERIENCE WITH STRUCTURAL ENGINEER (I'VE WORKED WITH 2 OTHERS, AND CINDY IS LEAGUES ABOVE THEM). OVERALL, I'M EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH THE WORK SHE'S DONE!

I'm extremely happy with the work Elbert's team did and with all my interactions with Elbert himself. The team does good work at a good pace, and Elbert himself was always willing to talk about any difficulties and propose solutions for me to choose from. I would absolutely recommend him and he would be my first choice for carrying out any future improvements or repairs to my home. AHC was not the cheapest bid I recieved, but it was fair, believable, and fixed-price. The only change orders we had to do were one for removing the wall (since the work couldn't be estimated initially without bringing in a structural engineer) and another later on when I decided to ask Elbert to have his team put bamboo flooring on the staircase they built. Both were within my expected ranges.

Ric responded to my initial phone inquiry very quickly and explained his availability.  He was exactly on time for the initial appointment as well as the day he scheduled to do the work; he actually beat the initial estimated date he provided by several weeks.  He asked a lot of questions to ensure that he understood what I wanted done and that we were on the same page. He simultaneously made a list of the tools and materials he would need for each task.  He called me back the same day with additional clarifying questions, alternative suggestions and a price quote, which he clarified with a final price within the hour. When Ric arrived to do the work he had 2 assistants and all three were knowledgeable, professional, efficient and hard workers.  They brought all the materials needed as well as all of the appropriate tools.  The man who did the lattice carpentry work finished out the project with a very nice frame and cap - truly a professional-looking job.  Although doing some of the work himself, Ric also consistently supervised the other 2 men and ensured that they were working safely and understood my request.  And Ric also made sure I was happy with the work being performed throughout the day. After the work was done, Ric had me inspect each task and explained what they did and/or found.  He identified a possible problem with a stretch of gutter (will wait until it rains again to see what happens) and  trimmed 2 trees as well as my neighbors palm, which interferes with my chimney.  All areas were cleaned before they left - in some cases better than when they arrived! I will contact Ric again when I've got another list together and will enthusiastically recommend him to family and friends.  The work was very well done and his price fair. Although the job was relatively small he approached the tasks with the utmost professionalism, skill and efficiency.  I feel lucky to have found someone that I can depend upon in the future!

AAldrete And Sons Shoring
Aldrete and Sons has 40 years experience shoring/elevating houses and they were the first to be able to know simply by looking at the interior of my house which walls were support walls....Mr. Aldrete is a structural engineer....unlike other shoring companies who and quot;evolvedand quot; into the business after Katrina when the Grant money became availalbe. He does not advertise commercially....His reputation is spread by word of mouth and hopefully now by Angie's List. This job was to raise our house (it flooded after Hurricane Katrina) using the Hazard Mitigation grant money, which is why it cost us nothing...and the actual process is nearly complete, but began on March 21, 2011. The elevation itself took place on April 30 and was done in a matter of hours. The preparation (digging out and shoring up the house...with the addition of concrete pilings which were driven down 50' in between the original wooden pilings) took approximately 3 weeks...allowing for weather conditions, items needing to be brought up to code) Aldrete and Sons is the only company that we've seen who does NOT have mountains of mud on the property. They haul the excavated debris away and DAILY pressure wash the sidewalks and street, so as not to inconvenience the neighbors and make it easier on the residents of the property being elevated. We had virtually NO mess to deal with during the elevation process. We did not have to move out of our house at ANY time during the process....it was all very easy. Our house has a gas stove and water heater. We were temporarily supplied with an electric water heater, which allowed us to have hot water to bathe and do laundry. I was not able to use my stove for the week we were without gas, but that was not an issue...:-) The workers were courteous and cleaned up after themselves daily (picking up their trash from lunch and cigarette butts, if they smoked) The Aldretes were always available and willing to answer any questions we had and address our concerns. One concern that we had was the lack of concrete footing around the posts for the back porch/stairs. The fencing company subcontracted to build it, appeared to have used very little concrete (some posts didn't seem to have concrete all the way around them) When we contacted the Aldretes about this, the subcontractor was contacted and the problem was resolved the next day. This process has taken longer than expected while waiting for post-elevation work to be completed....(as of July 11, we're waiting for completion of stair railing and sod for our yard) We're NEARLY there...but the 6-8 weeks originally promised has come and gone. When using any contractor you should be clear and get everything in writing as to what your expectations are and what their expectations are. That way everyone is on the same page. My advise is to take lots of photographs of all work done. It's an interesting process and the photos may be an asset when selling your home, so that prospective buyers can see the quality of work done and not have to wonder about it. It was a very easy process and we would highly recommend Aldrete and Sons for your shoring/elevation job.
