This project started over six months ago. We had an old deck and pergola which were in very poor condition. We wanted something different, so we looked into replacing the deck with either stamped concrete, pavers or stonework. After doing some research, we decided upon pavers. We got quotes from several companies for pavers. We also planned to replace the pergola with another or install a covered patio covering. We got some quotes from a few other companies for that as well. We knew in the not too distant future that we would want to redo the gardens also, so we would need to get quotes for that, too. As we worked our way through this arduous process, I just thought to myself that there's got to be an easier way. I signed up for Angie's List, did a search and found Mullin's, a one-stop shop landscaping company who could handle the whole project - from design to installation of pavers, pergola, drainage and gardens. I thought, wow, this is great! Exactly what I needed. Since I wasn't really clear on exactly what I wanted, I felt I needed some guidance. Chase came out initially to survey the backyard. Mark followed up with us and developed an initial design. After conferring with friends and family and taking some time to soak it all in, our likes and dislikes became more apparent to us. We had a second meeting with Mark, who developed a revised design drawing for us. We loved it and said "Let's go". It took a week to do the first phase of the project, ie., the hardscaping. They first tore down and hauled away the old deck and pergola. They then installed subsurface drainage. Next came the laying of the pavers and finally the pergola. Immediately afterwards, Mark worked out the gardening design. After some minor plant choice updates, we were ready to go. The crew dug out some old sod, trimmed some existing trees and shrubbery, prepared the beds, and installed the new plantings. The final result was nothing short of fabulous. This project has resulted in the transformation of an overgrown, disheveled backyard into a beautiful private oasis. Chase, Mark, Katie and Kurt and the entire crew were professional, courteous, helpful, patient and just fun to be around. Since we didn't know exactly what we wanted going into this project, I think that Chase and Mark offered some excellent and valuable advice and suggestions. They were extremely patient with us as we worked our way through the myriad of decisions and details that accompany any type of home improvement project. Mark is exceptionally creative and has a keen vision of what the end product should be. Chase is extremely knowledgeable and answered all my questions promptly. Katie, the office manager, is a sweetheart, and Kurt, the site supervisor, addressed all of our concerns and inquiries patiently every day. The crew was here every morning on time and stayed into the evenings until they reached a good stopping point. They were very detail oriented and took pride in their work. Their prices were about par with other estimates we had gotten (no higher; no lower), so that is why I gave them a Grade B in that category. But given all the other areas where they excelled, I think the value for the price was superb. Our experience with this company went beyond our expectations and I would highly recommend them.
