Affordable Concrete
Recent Review: After contacting three contractors for estimates to build an aggregate concrete sidewalk, I decided to go with Affordable Concrete, 210 Dusty RD, Boonville, IN.  One factor I considered was that Affordable was building a driveway for one of the new John Mattingly homes being built in my subdivision and I was able to see their completed work.  Affordable visited my home on Friday March 27, 2015 to get information in order to give me an estimate.  Almost a month later, and only after I called, I was given a quote for the work.  I was told that they were scheduling jobs several weeks out, but a 10% down payment ($220.00) would get me on the list.  On Wednesday April 22, I provided the down payment.  On May 26, June 1, and June 3 I left voice messages inquiring about the status of my installation.  On June 4, I sent an email inquiry in which Ron Knirs responded (surprisingly quick), stating that he was sorry about the no return calls, and that he would call me.  He also stated that I was scheduled the first week of July.  Ron Knirs did not call me? and Affordable did not show up the first week of July as promised.  I sent an email on Monday July 13 and left a voice message on Thursday July 16 attempting to get a status on my sidewalk installation.  Affordable Concrete did not respond to either message.  I sent an email on Monday July 20 asking for a refund of my $220.00 down payment.  To date I have not received any response nor have I received a refund.    I will update this review when I receive my refund.

Reviews in Owensboro to Install Concrete Sidewalks

I contracted Dan to pour an exposed aggregate patio and driveway extension. Never go with the cheapest bidder as I did. It was the worst concrete finish I have ever seen in my life. None of it was exposed evenly. It was very splotchy. Also the concrete wasn't even level. The forms he used were wavy. Also got cracks the day after he was done. He offered to caulk the cracks. No thanks. Also leaked oil in front of my house from his old truck.

We have a poured concrete porch that is supported in the front by a block wall that goes 8 feet down into the ground. The wall had been poorly constructed and was caving in under the porch. This also was causing the brick on the front of the porch (about 18" above ground) to fall off. Cornerstone removed the brick, worked with an excavation company to repair and reinforce the wall, put stone on the front (replacing the brick that could not be matched), put in new steps, and performed several other cosmetic repairs. The result was a beautiful. We get many compliments on the look of the front porch and steps leading up to the porch.

We wish this review could have been a positive one but sadly that is not the case. Wished we had read reviews before signing contract. It seemed fine at first. The contractor brought his price down from his first quote (later tried to deny it) and we chose him. We were told they’d start about 4 weeks and the whole job would be 3 weeks until finished. We paid 1/3 of price 2 weeks after signing. It was 2 months and 2 weeks before they showed up. They drug this thing out for 6 months! Weather only played a small part in delays. Over time it became very stressful and we regretted our choice. We were lied to and lied about, saying my wife or I agreed to things we did not. There would be 1 to 3 weeks, even a month once, go by with no shows, and /or no contact. A warning to others, get every single thing you are told is in the price, written in the contract. Things were verbally included and then denied that they were part of the contract price. Prices on certain things like metal color; installing windows were verbally said they would only be a couple hundred dollars but were 3 to 4 times more on the bill. Charged over $2000 more on the bill for digging up big tree root, which was never mentioned it would be an added charge on top of prepping the ground. Then, because of ground level, they added wood to back and side of foundation and had to add 6”x6” post between barn post because wood bowed out when gravel was poured in garage for fill. Tried to charge us $1200 for that and would not finish until we agreed. We did not. At this point we were done. We had set appointment to talk to our lawyer. We felt we were held hostage for money. This was months of day to day stress. We had ask repeatedly when this would be finished and always, ‘maybe next week’ would be the answer. While waiting for our appointment, the contractor texted and finally agreed to finish the job and forget about the $1200. Notes: Out of 6 months’ time ‘we’ had to delay once for 19 days for the gas co. to move a gas line. We are satisfied with the building and finished concrete work with exception of the wood of the trusses seem to be very cheap quality and the whole process with this contractor. The workers of the subcontractors did their jobs, this review is not about them.
