Recent Review: I learned of Gonzalez Band I through a brick supplier. My insurance agent suggested the supplier as a source of someone who could manage the multiple tasks I had. I then checked with Angie's List, and found the company had very good ratings, although not very many total ratings. I called to arrange a visit and estimate. Mauricio happened to be in my neighborhood and showed up about 15 minutes after my call! He understood the nature of the work to be done and emailed me an estimate and job task listing that night. A large tree that had been planted years ago too close to my house was causing the damage described above. Once I had the tree and stump removed, I accepted Gonzalez Band I estimate by email. We set the date for the work and the team and equipment arrived as scheduled. The completed the tasks of excavating, large root removal, small root removal, sealing, backfilling, brick replacement, tuck pointing, and trim restoration in a highly satisfactory manner. They leveled the excavation area, cleaned up the driveway, and hauled away the removed root pieces. The team of 3 were well organized, each working their area of expertise and helping the others. They began about 9:00 am and finished by mid-afternoon. All 3 were committed to doing excellent work.

We approached Rick Willard based on his Angie’s rating scores. Rick was very personalble and receptive to our plans to modernize and add to our cottage while preserving the vintage character. We had some specific ideas which the builder understood and aimed for. Rick was able to put together a team of excavators, foundation guys, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, finish trim and painters. The finished project looks beautiful with interior car siding, floor to ceiling. Rick even called prior to hanging the car siding to see which side we prefered for the reveal. Rick made recommendations along the way to enhace the usability, the appearances and compliance with the local building codes. One item in particular was the windows which look and work well. The planned deck received a beautiful railing recommended by Rick. Rick allow us the flexibillity to do some work ourselves and to subcontract our own flooring and a/c contractors. When the project was finished, much of the cottage wiring was updated and the entire roof was replaced. Rick changed our weekend cottage into a functional summer home.

Gardners came out and gave a me ball park estimate. They said that was the best they could do not knowing what they would get into once they started the work. The estimate was in the range that I had budgeted and told them to do the work. They came back the next day at the time they said they would. They replaced a large section of sewer line under the house and discovered that it was also leaking where it went through the wall going to the septic tank. They called in their excavating crew and they were there in a matter of minutes. They dug up about 4 feet of the line outside and replaced it. Fortunately they found PVC at that point and could connect to it. The job took they about 4 hours from start to finish and the bill was at the high end of the estimate. I was pleased with the work. They were very professional, and completed the work in the time frame they gave me. I would call them again if needed.

FJoe Spiker Excavating Inc
Less than a month after plugging my drains my basement flooded again. Spiker did not plug my drains correctly, the water came right up through the drains right around the poured concrete. Spiker came a out and did what they called a pump dump. The man that came out said that the water came through the drains because of the rate the rain fell and seemed to think we needed a stronger sump pump. I bought a bigger stronger sump pump and he came back and installed it. Every time it rains the drains are wet and if it rains a lot the basement gets pretty wet and the sump pump kicks on. This past September we had a huge rain and the basement not only flooded with 4 1/2 feet of water but my entire basement floor cracked and there are even places where there are holes big enough that I can stick a dalrod through them. The particular dalrod I used was 3 feet long and I can stick it all the way down on the hole and it does not seem to touch the ground. I called Spiker for assistance and the receptionist yelled and cussed at me on the phone and said they were no liable. I had to call several insurance companies in Greencastle to find out where they were insured because the receptionist would not tell me. Their insurance adjuster came out and made the determination that Spiker is not liable. I am in need of assistance and can not get it from the company that provided the services My basement is ruined, the floor is destroyed. Spiker says they stand behind their work but that is a lie. DO NOT USE SPIKE EXCAVATING, they do not care about their customers or how their poor craftsmanship effects they lives of their customers.
