Recent Review: I called Roto-Rooter because there was a sewer backup into my house on April 9, 2016.  I arranged to have a technician come out to clean out the sewer line.  The technician arrived on April 10, 2016, cleaned out the sewer line of debris, and used a video camera to make sure the line was clean and found a section of the sewer pipe that was damaged.  The technician provided an estimate for the excavation, removal and replacement of the damaged sewer line and details on what to expect.  The technician also provided the information for Roto-Rooter to remove and clean that damaged area from the sewer backup.  The lead for the cleanup team arrived on April 10, 2016, took pictures, and arranged for a team to remove the damaged portions of the house and clean the affected area.  The cleanup team arrived latter and worked to remove the damaged flooring and completed this task and cleaned the floor on April 11, 2016.  The excavation team arrived on April 12, 2016, dug the trench to get to the damaged pipe, removed and replaced the damaged section of sewer pipe, arranged for the city engineer to inspect the work to make sure the work was up to city code, added a new sewer clean out access point, and replaced any dirt that was removed.  The excavation team placed pieces of plywood on the ground to protect the ground for when they replaced the dirt.  Each person was knowledgeable about to expect and how the process works.

AD&M EXCAVATING INC
They were very close to me so that was easy for making an appointment. They got me on the phone the next day after I called them. They were very easy to work with. Everything went with no hitches.

They were excellent and very professional men.  They were wonderful to deal with and their price did not change till the end.  They came out and made sure the lawn was exactly what we wanted.

FGRAHAMS TRUCKING & EXCAVATING
They were terrible; they did not finish the work and we had to hire another excavator.  We fought the whole way through right from the beginning of the construction till the end.  They almost killed trees that they should not have killed.  They did a low price and then they charged us more saying they had to do extra work.  They nickel and dimed us so that we pay over what we should have paid.  We could have gotten a much better excavator to do the job at the exact same price but Grahams was working with our contractor.  We ended up paying over what we should have.  We fought with them on where they could gravel.  We could go on and on about them.  They lied to us and just cheated us.  It was not worth a fight because unfortunately we found out that the contract was not written well and we were dealing with a general contractor who was not so good either.  It was too hard of a fight to fight.  We were exhausted at that point if time so we did not do what we probably could have done.  We would not even recommend them to our worst enemy.  When we called the other excavator, he said that the previous excavator should have done the finishing work.  They asked who did the excavation and when we told them it was Grahams, they responded negatively about them.  I sure hope people learn from our mistake.

AWILLIAM WALTERS EXCAVATING INC
It went very well. They are prompt with their services. They are here when they say they are going to be. The dirt was a good quality dirt. When they graded our front lawn, they were professional about it and did what needed to be done. They know what they are doing.

AA Midwest Excavating
Service was great.  They were very responsive and punctual.  Service was done quickly and efficiently.  He was also very helpful and gave me info on maintaining the system as well as some help with what to check on trouble spot in the drain field.  I will be using Midwest for all future septic related issues.

AMann Made Plumbing, Inc.
The Giannini brothers arrived exactly as scheduled and completed all work within a single day. They carried away all debris and cleaned up nicely. The work involved cutting away part of a cement patio which was handled very professionally. Both Kwiatowski and Giannini are very good at their work. Their solution to the flooding problem was perfect. After days of heavy rain, there is no water whatever inside the house. I highly recommend both these companies. I would hire them again.

He excavated another property I have, setting up drainage for three lots that I have. Hes done repair work for me, Hes good, prompt, inexpensive. Hes a perfectionist, I've never seen anyone work so hard. I don't know how he does it. He went the extra yard and redid some pipes.

They arrived on time with equipment and dug a hole to troublespot with a huge forklift. Worked hard all day and finished about 5 PM (started at 8:15 AM). Used good materials, were professional and pleasant, and cleaned up after.

ANowicki Construction
I strongly recommend Nowicki Construction to members of Angie?s List near Chesterton, IN. Fred and Matt are top notch, low key, flexible and cost effective. Background: I recently bought my first brick home. Then, I discovered that many bricks had spalled within the last two years. The local brick yard referred me to a contractor who gave me an estimate for replacing about 100 bricks. But in early October, he stopped responding, and I could not schedule the work. So, I joined Angie?s List and quickly found several good reviews of Nowicki Construction. I contacted Fred, and he came right away to estimate the job.  Identifying the real problem: Very quickly, Fred determined that the spalling was just a symptom of an underlying issue with drainage and ground moisture, isolated to an addition built with less robust brick. He pointed out that a sidewalk against the north wall sloped a bit toward the addition, and trapped water against the brick. He observed that, overall, everywhere in the addition that I had a water problem, I had spalling. The problem spots included: an area under a window sill that I had already repaired; under gutters that the previous owner had neglected; and along the soil line. Solution: Fred suggested a different attack, one that required some grunt labor on my part. I broke up the sidewalk and excavated along the perimeter of the addition. Then Fred and Matt pressure-washed the exposed foundation, and applied a moisture barrier. They parge-coated a few courses of badly damaged brick at the soil line where the sidewalk had been. I back-filled with 4 tons of pea gravel. Throughout, Fred and Matt scheduled their work to accommodate mine.  Outcome: I?m relieved to have solved the underlying problem before Winter weather set in. I was able to add some sweat equity to keep cash costs down. In the Spring, Fred and Matt will schedule to replace the remaining spalled brick. In the end, my total cash cost may be less than my original contractor?s estimate.
