Recent Review: Completed. I was told I should check with a heating and cooling business to make sure the fireplace was to code. It turned out that I should not use the fireplace. Floor of fireplace could crumble after a few fires! So glad I took the suggestion!

Recent Review: I was referred to this business by someone I knew who does chimney work.  I contacted Mr Von Lanken and expained I had just bought a home with a wood burning fireplace that I had decided to convert to gas logs.  He came to my home to give me an estimate.   He made a recommendation and gave me a website that displays  short videos of how the logs look when they are burning.  I chose a set of logs but he insisted I come by his shop to see them in person as he wanted me to be satisfied with the end results.  At his shop, I did change my mind, and purchased a different set of logs.   I have used gas logs in 3 other homes prior to this one, but these logs are my favorite.  They are very realistic looking and I am very pleased with the final results.  I would recommend him to anyone in the area who is considering making a similar change.

Business Description: Sutton Roofing & Siding was started in 1946 by Edsel & Mayme Sutton in Springfield Illinois. Edsel sold the work and Mayme ran the business. They had an installer and focused solely on Roofing and Siding. In those days, there were only a handful of colors to offer customers. The Sutton’s prided themselves on using the highest quality materials and installation available. Then, they put their name on it and offered a guarantee. A handful of the projects they did in those early days can still be seen on homes in the older areas of Springfield today. In the late 1970's, Douglas Sutton moved back to Springfield and took over the family business for his parents, Edsel and Mayme. He changed the name to reflect the expanded remodeling services. The new name was Sutton Siding & Remodeling, Inc. A marketing partner of Doug's was responsible for one of the most successful marketing campaigns in Springfield. Sutton Siding & Remodeling adopted the slogan, ""You call us, we don't call you."" That is because some key competitors at the time were dialing for dollars every evening and on weekends bothering people for appointments. The slogan worked and separated Sutton's from the vultures lurking on the phone. People still refer to that slogan today and refer to Sutton’s as simply “Sutton Siding.” Fast forward to 1995 and Douglas Sutton Jr, along with his brother Michael Sutton, took over the family business. Eventually, the duo decided to change the name to simply ""Sutton's."" The pair added a property restoration division and is recognizing a need in the marketplace to help customers after a fire or storm damage. Together, the brothers still operate the business in partnership and work in the business every day in the same office on Peoria Road on Springfield’s north side. Sutton’s has three distinct divisions. They are Exteriors, Remodeling, and Service. Sutton’s started as a Roofing and Siding company and is still the largest Roofing & Siding Company in central Illinois.

Recent Review: Excellent work.  Easy to work with on projects.  Has been given additional work at our home including painting, repair of cabinet hardware, drain problem, toilet repair, dry wall repair, light electrical work.  He is doing the work this week and it is going well.  Repair business is very busy, you must be patient and not need work done as time permits.  If you secure an appointment plan on him being at the meeting 15 to 30 minutes late.

CDons Chimney Sweep
When I initially spoke to Don, I asked him if he repairs fireplaces. He said he did. He did not tell me until after he got to my residence & inspected my fireplace that he is not “licensed” to repair fireplaces. That defeated the purpose of him coming to my house. Had I known that, I would not have had him come to my house to inspect my fireplace. He seemed very knowledgeable about fireplaces & did give me some good information, however, should have told me he can not repair fireplaces. I paid him $50 for the inspection & did not receive the repair I requested. I feel this was deceptive.

I was closing on a house with 2 fireplaces in 8 days and both needed to be inspected and possibly cleaned before being used as they were not warranted. I called Kleins and left a voicemail that I was looking to have my fireplaces inspected and cleaned if necessary after the closing. Bill called me promptly that evening to set up a time. He was upfront about his prices, $35 for the inspection, $100 if it needs cleaning. He was able to give me a time that worked well for all of the things that take place on a closing day. He told me he would call the night before to confirm. The night before he did confirm. The day of he showed up on time. He was very on task but sociable. He explained everything as he went and offered some helpful hints on the best way to go about using the fireplace. After evaluating both of the fireplaces (including masonry and flues) he told me that one of the two would need to be cleaned, so the cost would be $100 but that amount would also include repairing some minor cracks. Then he went out to his truck and grabbed his vacuum system and cleaning tools. He worked very quickly and cleanly. There was no mess, and he was in and out in under a half hour. Not only will I use him again, but I will confidently recommend him.

I called for fireplace firebox repair over a month and half ago for an appointment.  She said she would tell him.  They never did call back - so I called again about a week ago and she gave me the same message.  They still have not responded. Guess they think my job not expensive enough and not worth even a respectful reply..
