Business Description: Goodberlet Heating and Air was started in October of 1982, by Tom and Anna Goodberlet. Armed with a small customer list from Tom's grandfather, who had ran and operated Coy Heating from 1950 to 1979, as well as building on the relationships of their parents, friends and family, Tom and Anna built Goodberlet Heating from the ground up while raising their three children. As the business slowly grew, Tom and Anna invested back into their home-grown community by sponsoring youth sports teams and participating and aiding local organizations. Concentrating on slow steady growth by offering quality service and installation with a strong focus on personal attention to the customer, Goodberlet's mission statement was simple "always do the right thing." In the beginning, Tom states, "We really were just interested in making a living and raising our kids. We really didn't have a business plan to grow. We both were raised in rather simple households, being our parents were children of the depression. 'Hard work' and 'Your word is your bond', these things are what we grew up with, and we still feel the same way." Concentrating on the energy crisis in the mid 80's, Goodberlet started offering some of the highest efficient heating and air conditioning systems available in the area. As their reputation grew, more employees where added and the company continued to expand within their wonderful customer base and the services they provided. Moving to a new location in 1996 to the high traffic corner of West Superior and Kennedy Dr in Bradley, Goodberlet's new visibility allowed for storefront offices, and a service and installation stock area. In 1999, with the business continuing to flourish, Anna came to work full time at the company and began offering their Planned Maintenance Agreements. "Our service dispatch would consist of a post-it note or a sheet of paper with all the calls on it for the day, Anna states, and we would keep track of all of our customers and service calls in a binder. In 2000 we invested in some computer software programs." Goodberlet Heating & Air remained on Kennedy Dr for 8 years capitalizing on the good economy, local new-construction and housing boom, residential replacements and service market. With a growing staff, the company looked for a larger space. Their current location at 255 E Brookmont in Kankakee suites the company well. "Family owned companies offer a very dynamic and interesting workplace, Tom states, "but we all get along, and we have to really find some different things to talk about at night, instead of 'how was your day?', but it has worked for 29 years." As of 2012, there are 6 "official" Goodberlets working at the company; yet the whole team is part of the family. The honest and fair values and traditions are upheld within all who work with and at the company. As the business moves forward; the changing of ideas, customers, products and markets will occur; however, somethings will not change.

Recent Review: Clinton Twaddle and his crew are very professional and very friendly.  We were doing a major remodel on our kitchen (removing walls) and and we needed the gas lines and water lines moved to accommodate the new location of our stove and refrigerator.  I used Twaddle Plumbing the previous month when we moved our laundry room to the opposite side of our house.  In both cases, Clinton came by and gave me an estimate and told me when he could start the job.  They showed up on time, were very fast and efficient, and kept me informed as they were d*** the work.  In the first job where we needed new plumbing for the washer including a drain in the basement, Clinton was able to hook into the basement bathroom drain which saved us a couple hundred dollars because he did not have to jackhammer the basement floor.  In the second job, where he was moving the gas and water lines, I asked his crew if they could run a gas line to the outside by my patio so we could hook up the grill.  They were very accommdating and charged me a minimal extra fee outside the original estimate. I would not hesitate to call Twaddle Plumbing again for any plumbing needs.  I highly recommend Twaddle Plumbing if you are looking for someone who is honest, professional, friendly and fair in his prices.

Recent Review: The service technician showed up promptly and did a great job. He had to go back to the shop and build some of the parts for the duct work. He was pleasant, and proffessional. He answered all of my questions regarding the new unit. The removal of the old gas line was an extra and I was not charged for it. I was very happy with the work that was done and will definately use this company again. I would highly recommend them. The Loescher Heating and Air Conditioning that I used is out of Rock Falls, IL. Tim Morthland is the gentleman that I dealt with.

CBaker & Sons Plumbing
The gas line was found leaking the evening after the service and they had to come back to fix it. They were very professional but should of been more careful with something as serious as a gas line.

ACody & Sons Plumbing Heating & Air
We had our pool renovated, and our existing gas line was too small to run the new pool heater. Randy Cody ran a new and larger gas line roughly 130 feet, from the backyard to the meter in the front yard. Digging for the new line was quite a challenge. They were required to dig in very narrow spaces between the pool and a stucco wall, through tree roots, under a flagstone deck, all while avoiding damaging a fiber optic cable and sprinkler lines. It was quite the surgical procedure. They did an excellent job and were very neat in the process. Randy is a great guy, very professional, very conscientious, and just plain nice to deal with. I highly recommend Cody and Sons Plumbing!

BJACOBS AIR CONDITIONING AND HEATING INC
I had been planning to call Jacobs for a seasonal tune-up on my air-conditioning system when I found that I had a gas leak in my hot water heater. I called Jacobs for a second-opinion. Their technician Dave’s opinion concurred with the first: the leak was in a very expensive part and it was best to replace the entire hot water heater. Their bid to replace the hot water heater also included replacing some of the gas piping which was not up to code. This eliminated some flared fittings and other problems that I was already aware needed to be addressed at the earliest convenience. I feel that I received good customer service during and after the installation. Shortly after the installation, I thought the hot water smelled odd. Their technicians worked with me until I was satisfied that the problem was resolved. Four months later my property was inspected, and the inspector took issue with the drop tube on the temperature relief valve. This particular pipe was made of PVC, but the inspector wanted it to be metal. I sent Jacobs a copy of the inspection report, and they came out and replaced the PVC tube with a metal one. Some of the copper gas piping was replaced with corrugated stainless steal tubing (CSST) in the installation. I recently found that there is a possible safety concern with CSST if it is not properly bonded and grounded. I e-mailed the owner of Jacobs with my concern, and they replaced the CSST with black iron piping.

AAffordable Comfort Heating & Air
Jason came out to inspect the furnace in a house we had just moved into and has no information from the previous owner. He was on time and worked very efficiently. He recorded all the information (model; serial number) and informed us that the unit was relatively new, in good condition and still under warranty. He replaced the Space-Gard air filter element and repaired a small gas leak at the union. Overall I was very pleased with the service and plan to have Jason out again in the spring to check the air conditioning unit.

APass One Hour
Everything went well from beginning to end. When the men entered the house they put runners down across our carpet and put booties on over their shoes when they went to other parts of the house. During the duct work cleaning all the garbage in the ducts went into their huge vacuum and not into the air. They found a damaged heat duct and replaced it at no extra charge. During the installation of the new furnace we went one night with no heat but Pass made sure we were warm by providing ceramic heaters. They cleaned up completely after themselves, were very professional and courteous.
