Recent Review: I had a bunch of projects around the house from bathroom remodeling to electrical.  Dan and his crew do a great job.  They took care of minor details, were on time and are very professional.  I will use them for future projects.

Recent Review: After hiring Jess Construction last year, we were completely happy with the work and the cost of our previous remodel. So we rehired them to do many new projects this year. Things went excellently this year, and we are perfectly satisfied with the work again. Our house looks beautiful inside and out, and it's completely updated now. Our garage used to be a huge messy pile of stuff that we had never properly stored. Now we can park both cars inside, we have organized and stored all our stuff, and have plenty of new storage space in the cabinets and shelves if we need it later. Plus we have a very nice little work shop. Inside, we finished the last bathroom update, and it is beautiful. Our walls and staircase are all spruced up, no cracks in the ceiling, great paint job. The woodwork and trim is even cleaned up and refinished. The exterior paint job included lots of sanding and removal of old peeling paint from our cedar siding. Bill went way above and beyond what any other painting contractor would have done. All our siding and trim is now restored and looks fantastic. I would say Bill is a perfectionist. Even so, he always finished the work on time. He never left our job to work on another, never made us wait, and was always on schedule, even if there were unanticipated problems (in remodeling there always are). He worked extra, when he needed, so he always stayed on schedule. We recommended him to several friends, and they are also fully satisfied with the work he did for them.

handyman  would come to work for 1 or 2 hours then leave, taking one and half weeks to finish  the jobs. had to have them come back and readjust the front door so the deadbolt would lock , and readjust the screen door so it would shut correctly.

Dan did an excellent job, especially considering that I live out of state and was unable to be on the job-site for consultation.  He quickly understood our needs and provided useful assistance in planning and selection of materials, his communication was always professional and to the point, and the completed project was within budget and exceeded our expectations.  Although the fact that the house was unoccupied and the owners were not readily available resulted in some unexpected delays, the work was completed as quickly as could be expected.  I plan to use Dan's services next time the need arises.

All work performed very well. Bob is knowledgeable, punctual, honest, thoughtful (even puts on shoe covers before entering) and professional. He has good ideas on how to do things well, and really knows his stuff. We trust his judgement and professionalism. As we settle into a new home in the Gig Harbor area, Bob is a valued and trusted adviser and source of expertise.

Shortly after the work was done, we were very disappointed with the paint job--we could still see the water damage in two of the rooms.  We didn't expect the paint to match exactly, but the repair was very sloppily and hastily done.  We complained and the painter (who had also worked on the roof) came out and worked on it some more, but the problem didn't get fixed (and we are not super fussy).  I got the feeling the painter-guy didn't really know what he was doing.  So, we were worried about what had been done on the roof, but are not able to get on the roof ourselves.  Last week, when the chimney sweep was up there, he took pictures for us and checked out the work done on the chimney.  It looks like someone just slopped around some mortar, and not very neatly.  The sweep says he doesn't think the repair solves the leak problem, either. They (contractor and helpers) did show up when they said they would & came out when we complained about the paint job, so that part was OK. But given how much we paid, we feel ripped-off & are worried we will end up having to pay someone else to clean up and re-do the chimney work, at least, and perhaps the roof work, if an inspection shows we need it. In defense of the contractor (aka A-1 Roofing and Leak Repair), he had suffered a serious arm injury shortly after he did the bid and couldn't do the work himself--he couldn't even get up on the roof to check the work.  After the sweep's report, I called him and he seemed open to fixing the problem.  I emailed the "after" pictures, but perhaps he didn't get them or is very busy--it's been less than a week since I called. So, the story isn't complete yet.  We liked the contractor (Mark Pitman) and he seems to have a lot of roofing experience.  I did not get a great feeling of professionalism from the man who actually did the work, although he was very pleasant.  If things get resolved (or don't), we will change the review accordingly.

This was a nightmare.  The least professional crew I've every seen.  They borrowed equipment from me since they were unprepared.  One of the items that they borrowed was a nice folding 4 step step ladder, when they abandoned the job (yes, more later) they left it covered with paint and sheetrock mud.  Interior painting was sloppy with very poor "cutting" at edges, the prior color shows through in blotches on the walls.  The trim painting in our bathroom was not properly prepared so that days after painting when it was bumped (like with the toe of a shoe) it peeled off.  When preparing the outside trim, the crew evidently tired of removing the silicone caulk, so they simply painted over it silicone lumps and all.  During the quarter round replacement, they broke a window.  We complained about all of these problems to Mark Pitman (who was at the work site for a total of about 10 minutes over the entire course of the disaster), and were assured "Oh, that's terrible we'll fix that"-- "Oh, that's no problem I've got a glass guy that will fix that"-- Blah, blah, blah. But as bad at all that was it is not as bad as the sheetrock job on the basement ceiling.  It was terrible, and amateurish. Every tape line shows, the sheetrock was not properly attached and within just a few days, nails were beginning to pop.  The room was a mess with sheetrock mud and paint splashed on the walls and the brick fireplace face.  After Mark Pitman's people abandoned (yes) the job we had three competent sheetrockers look at the job and two of them said tear it out and redo it.  The third had some suggestions for not tearing it out, but redoing parts and tuning it up but at a cost.  So we have a subpar ceiling job even after repair of of the Handyman Inc. work.  They put up one of the contracted three lights. But as bad as all THAT is it is not the worst.  Remember a $4000 quote with half up front ($2000) that we paid, 25% ($1000) at "half done" which we paid when the painting was done (with promises to repair) and the sheet rock was up but not taped.  Balance (about $1000) was due on completion.  We're too much a soft touch, after getting phone assurance that the ceiling, paint and window problems would be addressed, we were cajoled into paying another $300.  They pocketed that money and then completely abandoned the job.  No answer to repeated phone calls.  None of the fixtures (outlet covers, bathroom medicine cabinet, closet doors, closet rods, curtains) that were removed for painting were replaced.  NOTHING was cleaned up after the botched sheetrock job in the basement.  The worker left their empty paint buckets, tarps, small tools, broken window and all the dust ,dirt and paint blotches as is and they walked.  We have not heard from them since.  Repeated phone calls not returned.  We have invested hundreds of dollars simply repairing the damage that Handyman Inc. did to our house. Do not give these people a chance to ruin your place.

Bill came in late May 2011, and started by cleaning some space in the garage, building some work tables and storage cabinets (which he left for us), putting up plastic to keep the dust out, and protecting our floors in the house. He always showed up promptly at 7am, or told me ahead of time that he would be stopping at the hardware store before coming. We had ordered the bath tile online and it came at least 1/2 broken. To stay on schedule, he worked around the broken and damaged tile, and somehow managed to put together a beautifully designed bathroom floor and walls. He even helped package up the broken tile mess to help me get refunded. He built a custom vanity to look just like the existing 1950's cabinets (well built and designed, it is fabulous and much nicer than the original!). While we waited for the kitchen cabinets (the order got messed up so they came later than I planned), he installed a new floor in my laundry and did several odd jobs. He installed the floor in the kitchen, fixed cracks in the ceiling, repaired drywall where the electician had moved light fixtures and wall outlets, even weatherproofed my door. He installed the kitchen cabinets so fast, you could see that he had decades of experience. The kitchen came together amazingly fast. He had extra time on his schedule and I had plenty more work for him, so he built the custom furniture I needed in my bedroom and painted the room. He never left my job to go work on another job the whole time he worked for me. That was a huge selling point to me when I hired him, and I got a whole lot of extra things done while we waited for the other contractors and orders that came in late. We live in a rural community where materials aren't easily available, so there were plenty of issues with internet orders that didn't go smoothly. He just multi-tasked and got other things done while we waited. I had trouble of one sort or another, with most of my other contractors for this job, and they all were expensive. But Bill kept his prices low and his quality of work high. He cleaned up his mess every day before he left and when he was done, my garage was so much cleaner and nicer than it was before he worked in it. He always worked extra hard to stay on schedule, and his job was completed slightly ahead of time. I was highly impressed and I love my remodel. I'm hiring him again next summer to do some more big jobs. He calls himself a "finish carpenter", but he's incredibly versatile, and can do all kinds of work. His carpentry work is outstanding.
