This was a nightmare. The least professional crew I've every seen. They borrowed equipment from me since they were unprepared. One of the items that they borrowed was a nice folding 4 step step ladder, when they abandoned the job (yes, more later) they left it covered with paint and sheetrock mud. Interior painting was sloppy with very poor "cutting" at edges, the prior color shows through in blotches on the walls. The trim painting in our bathroom was not properly prepared so that days after painting when it was bumped (like with the toe of a shoe) it peeled off. When preparing the outside trim, the crew evidently tired of removing the silicone caulk, so they simply painted over it silicone lumps and all. During the quarter round replacement, they broke a window. We complained about all of these problems to Mark Pitman (who was at the work site for a total of about 10 minutes over the entire course of the disaster), and were assured "Oh, that's terrible we'll fix that"-- "Oh, that's no problem I've got a glass guy that will fix that"-- Blah, blah, blah. But as bad at all that was it is not as bad as the sheetrock job on the basement ceiling. It was terrible, and amateurish. Every tape line shows, the sheetrock was not properly attached and within just a few days, nails were beginning to pop. The room was a mess with sheetrock mud and paint splashed on the walls and the brick fireplace face. After Mark Pitman's people abandoned (yes) the job we had three competent sheetrockers look at the job and two of them said tear it out and redo it. The third had some suggestions for not tearing it out, but redoing parts and tuning it up but at a cost. So we have a subpar ceiling job even after repair of of the Handyman Inc. work. They put up one of the contracted three lights. But as bad as all THAT is it is not the worst. Remember a $4000 quote with half up front ($2000) that we paid, 25% ($1000) at "half done" which we paid when the painting was done (with promises to repair) and the sheet rock was up but not taped. Balance (about $1000) was due on completion. We're too much a soft touch, after getting phone assurance that the ceiling, paint and window problems would be addressed, we were cajoled into paying another $300. They pocketed that money and then completely abandoned the job. No answer to repeated phone calls. None of the fixtures (outlet covers, bathroom medicine cabinet, closet doors, closet rods, curtains) that were removed for painting were replaced. NOTHING was cleaned up after the botched sheetrock job in the basement. The worker left their empty paint buckets, tarps, small tools, broken window and all the dust ,dirt and paint blotches as is and they walked. We have not heard from them since. Repeated phone calls not returned. We have invested hundreds of dollars simply repairing the damage that Handyman Inc. did to our house. Do not give these people a chance to ruin your place.
