Recent Review: College Pro Painters was supposed to show up three times and didn't and we were not getting straight answers out of them over the phone. He finally subcontracted the work to Angel Ramos. The price I paid was higher than the orginal estimate as we were told that we would have to pay extra for a job well done. Next time, I will cut out College Pro and go right to Angel Ramos.

Reviews in Rathdrum for Baseboard Installation

FMike Wallace Handyman
The overall experience was not at all what I would have expected from a licensed contractor (he drank 16 oz beers stashed in his truck), and it was unpleasant.  He talked me out of my materials choices, which I provided and made multiple runs to Home Depot and Lowe's for items he needed/didn't have.  Despite me getting down on all fours with a putty knife and scraping vinyl glue residue, he insisted on laying the floor over the still lumpy top surface, saying I "wouldn't notice at all".  Needless to say, I notice it every single day and it makes me sick that I spent so much money on such shoddy work.   The kitchen linoleum: I don't know if he was inebriated but he mis-cut totally the nearly $200 sheet of vinyl I'd purchased. There are gaps where the old vinyl shows through in front of the dishwasher and in the pantry.  At the entry to the kitchen, he made a huge glaring mis-cut - coming up 8.5 inches short of the door jamb (!) - which necessitated him making a sloppy, glued-in piecework in a very visible area.  I'd helped him move the refrigerator out into the dining room so he could work, and when it came time to push it back, I had a dolly at the ready but he insisted on just jamming it across the laminate floor, making multiple gouges and scrape marks!  The floor wasn't glued down except in a few points along the sides (he said it wasn't necessary) so whenever I vacuum, the entire floor is sucked up and I have to flop it back down repeatedly. (See photos) The kitchen trim molding:  I had new trim, and as he removed each piece of the old trim, I labeled it, took it outside, pulled the nails, and set it aside for use as a template in hopes to make for easy cutting of the new.  He acted angry that I didn't want to just put the (20+ year old trim molding) back down.  When he did install it, I noticed later there were innumerable gaps and areas where he'd used just one nail to secure an entire length of trim board. The downstairs bath area:  I'd recently pulled the old carpet from this bedroom myself, pull all the tack strips, and had hired someone to lay laminate. There were some areas along the floor trim board area where the plaster was pulled loose and I'd asked  Mike to smooth over the plaster so there'd be no gaps when the trim board was replaced.  Again, I labeled the old trim board pieces, pulled the nails, and stood there, handing him the new trim and old pieces to measure and fit.  Basically, he did an incredibly sloppy job of smoothing Spackle as evidenced by the photos I've attached.  I'm not that fussy, but this is a ridiculously poor job. The bath entry:  This is an approximately 3 x 5 foot area where a pedestal sink is situated, just outside the bathroom. I had wanted tile but Mike told me that was too much work and to just get panels in laminate as this would be easier for him to cut and install. I did find something at Home Depot that seemed to work and purchased that and the laminate trim board to tie the flooring and the newly floored area together.  As the laminate had raised the floor, there was a significant dip to the 'tiled' area and we discussed this, with Mike saying he would use the extra flooring to 'bring the two floors level'.  Unfortunately, this isn't what he did and again, as evidenced by the photos, there's just a thick line of caulk between the trim molding and the lower floor. He told me not to step on the trim for a day or two but that it should hold "just fine".  This isn't what happened as the first time a guest stepped on the side of the trim board, it snapped.  In one photo I've taken an envelope to show how much of a gap there is, and that the caulking obviously didn't extend fully.  Incidentally, he made a point of telling me what type of caulking to purchase, at $6 per tube, and I noticed he took all of it with him upon leaving. The pedestal sink has a huge amount of sloppy grout he installed.   This was an extremely disappointing experience. I felt I did everything I could to make his job easier as he was an elderly man, from pulling the kitchen linoleum and scraping glue residue, to pulling nails from the trim boards, to making multiple runs to the hardware store, to dragging my dolly up the stairs only to have him eschew using it and just slam the refrigerator across the floor (installed the year before).  It makes me sick to walk on the lumpy kitchen floor every morning, thinking how I stupidly spent my hard-earned money on such shoddy workmanship.   I realize the odds are remote that anyone will stumble across Mike Wall, of Wall To Wall Handyman, but if I can possibly spare someone the regret I've personally experienced, this review will have been worthwhile.

Although a they arrived a little late (45 min), they did an excellent job. I was going to a taller baseboard after removing carpet and refinish the wood floors. It took a somewhat artistic approach and they performed flawlessly. They totally caulked every seam and painted where the nails went in. They were quick (without rushing). I'd definitely recommend them and use them again for handyman projects.

AMark Ryan Restoration
I had a leak so I called my insurance company and they came out and gave an estimate for repairs. I hired Mark Ryan Restoration, again, to help with this and fix my home. Mark was able to get everything fixed that was damaged! My insurance company, whom I will not name, gave a very poor initial settlement. Mark worked with them to explain his estimate of the damages and was able to restore my home fully! He did an incredible job with my insurance company. I thought I was going to have to hire an attorney, but Mark knew what he was doing with them. I would highly recommend him especially when dealing with any type of insurance claim.

Overall, great. Ryan is wonderful to work with. The only issue was that he tried to put baseboards in a bedroom closet in a hurry & they weren't done well. He was to come back and redo the job but it remains as it was. I haven't called again to ask since we talked and he agreed to come back and redo the work.

The work went very well.  He was right on time and worked hard.  The work looks great.  He makes sure it is done correctly and you are happy before he leaves.  I would use him for other construction work around the house.

Jeff came to my home and after observing and discussing what I wanted to have done, gave me a "ballpark" estimate, explaining that the final price would reflect the quality of the trim I selected.  He went to the hardware store and brought back 5 different trims he thought I might like. He explained their pros and cons. I selected one, and a final price was decided on.  He returned the samples, purchased the trim, and installed it.  He explained exactly what he was going to do, i.e. what glues he was using and how he was going to deal with irregular areas.  He did all the cutting outside and was careful to keep my rugs clean. He cleaned up after himself. The finished result was very professional looking and after 6 months, I have had no problems with it.

ACAPSTONE CONSTRUCTION CO INC
My insurance company recommended Capstone after our upstairs bathroom flood, which leaked through three floors. An agent from their company was out to the house the next day. I was assigned a project manager that I was able to call anytime for questions and concerns. He was very kind and courteous. I felt he went above and beyond to make sure that everything was taken care of. We had just had our baseboards stained and having the new carpet installed scratched up all the baseboards. When I pointed this out to Capstone, they immediately re-stained the baseboards. Also I had a concern about moving a piano out of a room that needed new carpet. They recognized my concern and worked with the insurance company to get a professional mover to move the piano to ease my concerns. Anytime I went into the Capstone office, I was treated with respect and kindness. I took my time picking the new carpet and bathroom flooring and Capstone was alway patient with me and let me get things done when it was good for me. I was very impressed with the professionalism. The only concern was that the carpet installation was a little heavy in the corners and I can still see the lines from where the carpet had to come together. I am not sure this is an installation problem however because the carpet we picked was very thick. Any spots we pointed out, Capstone came out and fixed the best they could. I loved working with them.

It went very smoothly. The whole cast of professionals from beginning to end were great. I was worried that it would end up in disaster like so many other people go through, but these folks really took care of me. Whenever the crew would show up in the morning, the made sure to call before they pulled into the driveway (good thing they did a couple times as I forgot to wake up). There were no billing surprises like I was expecting as everything that they made sure up front how much it was going to cost so I could make the decision of whether it was in my budget or if there was an alternative. The work was done professionally and with a high level of quality that I can be proud of. I can't say enough good things about these guys but I know they'll be around a long time and I will tell as many people as I can about how wonderful they are.

He was on time and was a lot cheaper than any other company that quoted me for my gutters. He even trimmed some trees that were hanging over my house. He fixed my garage door in about 10 minutes and sent sombody out to install the lock.
