The build process was nothing short of horrific. We were given a worst case completion date of the last week of October, we did not get our certificate of occupancy until November 24th and did not close until December 15th. In addition, our home was $20,000 over budget and that's not including the out of pocket expenses we incurred during the build to try and offset the increase to our mortgage. Since moving in, we experienced a roof leak on February 12th, Mussell Construction did not send someone to fix the leak until February 16th. It then took until May 3rd for them to send someone to patch the hole and crack in the ceiling where the leak dripped for 4 days straight. Our French Doors do not stay closed unless the deadbolt is engaged. Mussell Construction claims there is nothing wrong with the doors and informed us that sending someone to look at the doors was a "waste of their time", even though they have been sent a video proving the door is still malfunctioning and will not stay shut on it's own. The window in my son's room has been "fixed" three times for the same reason, it will not stay open, it falls down on it's own. Our exterior paint was not completed before we moved in, we had to wait until May 3rd for it to be completed. Furthermore, Mussell Construction did not manage the follow-up of the painters, we were told that we had to watch the weather and reach out once temperatures were above a certain degree for the majority of the day. Mussell Construction was notified of a faulty kitchen drawer on February 24th, we were told that the drawer would be fixed on May 3rd, Mussell Construction's representative did not show up at the time they said they would. Supposedly, their drawer contractor is going to coordinate with us another date for the drawer to be fixed. The drawer contractor has yet to coordinate a date with us, it's been 13 days since it was originally supposed to be fixed. We have a wood burning stove in our home. We stated, in writing, on multiple occasions that we wanted a straight flue. One of those requests was sent before trusses were set so that Mussell Construction could plan for our design request. Upon installation, our flue had a 45 degree elbow, when we confronted Mussell Construction they claimed that we insisted the stove placement be pushed as far out into the corner of the room as possible. Mussell Construction has yet to provide any tangible evidence that supports such a request. Whereas we have an email that blatantly states that we do not mind if the stove has to be pushed farther in to the living room. Mussell Construction also failed to notify us that we would not be getting a straight flue, we had to discover the elbow upon seeing it in person after the installation was complete and just prior to finally taking possession of our home 1-1/2 months late. The elbow not only presents cost and maintenance issues, it provides a place for creosote build-up, putting my family at an increased danger for chimney fires. Mussell Construction continues to fail to take accountability for the misinstallation or their responsibility to have notified us prior to the install that we would not be getting the flue we requested. It is understandable to have warranty claims after a new home build, what is not acceptable is to make your customers wait months for those items to be fixed with slim to no status update along the way. In addition, Mussell Construction's communication method is curt and accusatory, with each warranty item we have been made to feel belittled and a complete inconvenience. Under no circumstances would I ever recommend this builder.
