We contacted 4 different firms to replace our existing 3-tab asphalt roof which was deteriorating rapidly due to age. Hometown Roofing, Inc. was the only firm that responded. They were also referred to us by a friend. The salesperson arrived on time and was very courteous and professional. He spent about 45 minutes up on the roof taking detailed measurements. He provided a very detailed estimate of the work that needed to be done and was willing to answer all of our questions without any pressure to and quot;close the dealand quot;. He allowed us 30 days to review the estimate and ask any additional questions. We opted for an upgrade to laminated designer shingles. Upon acceptance of the estimate, there was no requirement for a down payment. The work was scheduled within a week of accepting the estimate and was to take about a day. On the day of the installation, the crew arrived early in the morning but were held up by rain. At first, I was a little nervous because they were tearing off the old roof before the new shingles had been delivered. Fortunately, the weather cleared, but it also became unbearably hot. In spite of the extreme conditions, the crew worked diligently throughout the remainder of the day and were able to get the front half the roof replaced. They made sure they sealed up the gaps between the new roof on the front and the old roof on the back in case of more rain. They did leave most of their material and tools up on the roof and left for the day. Little did we know that night would bring a thunderstorm with an inch and a half of heavy rain and 60 MPH winds. Fortunately, the crew had done an excellent job of sealing the gaps between the old and new roof so there were no leaks. However, some of the materials and tools they had left on the roof blew off during the storm and ended up all over our yard. The next day, my wife and I policed the yard and picked up most of the material that had blown off the roof. The next day was rainy, so the crew did not show up until the following day. I explained to the foreman what had happened during the storm. He was very apologetic and indicated they would be sure to clean up everything before they left. This day was much cooler than the first day on the job, so the crew made good progress and were able to finish the back side of the house by mid afternoon. They cleaned up thoroughly and policed the yard for nails and any scraps of leftover material. A week later, I have yet to find any nails or scraps of material except for a few nails that have washed down in the downspouts. A few days after the installation was completed, the salesperson scheduled an appointment to inspect the new roof and go over any final questions or concerns we may have had. He also provided us with copies of the manufacturer's warranty and their own installation warranty. I have the inspected the roof personally and find nothing with the quality of installation or materials that I can take issue with. The crew did an excellent job of laying down the new roof, sealing any exposed nail heads and trimming the shingles along the edges of the roof line. I am normally a and quot;do-it -yourselfand quot; person and ask myself and quot;could I have done a better joband quot;? In this case, the answer is no. Hometown Roofing, Inc. exceeded my expectations.
