Tom's Painting painted the exterior (late summer 2013) and interior (December 2013-January 2014) of our home. For the exterior paint job, the initial visit was on time and professional. Tom reviewed the exterior of our house and provided an estimate, which was reasonable. Overall exterior paint job was good, although we did have to bring them back to fix incomplete areas and finish painting back patio...verbal painting instructions were not followed as given. Clean up was not as good as expected....it is understandable that not every paint chip would be picked up, but there was a lot of paint chips left in landscaping around home. Final cost of exterior job was close to original estimate. Interior paint job--we hired Tom's Painting to finish our interior painting. Tom provided reviewed our interior rooms (main floor and finished basement) and provided an estimate that did not include painting fireplace--as we were not positive about painting the fireplace. The main floor rooms were painted the appropriate colors, the first floor job took approximately 3 days. Details, such as trimming, were not up to par. Had to have them come back more than once to fix problem areas. First floor paint job--love the colors, not impressed with execution. The basement paint job was a hot mess. Tom's Painting was supposed to skim coat paneled walls to remove the paneled look and skim coat walls with "texture"--the skim coating was hit or miss. Some walls were done well and looked great, but the majority of them were terrible. There were walls were part of it was smoothed out correctly and the rest clearly showed the panel underneath. The dust created was TERRIBLE!!! They did not have/use the sander that collects the skim coat dust and we had dust all over the house. As in the main floor, the detail work was terrible. We had to have them come back more than once to fix trimming and missed areas. During the basement job, Tom went on vacation and left an employee to complete the skim coating and prepare the walls....employee did not show up when scheduled and when he did show up the next day, he only worked a few hours. The employee did not show up again. Granted this time was between Christmas and New years, but that is no excuse for not showing up again. Painter did not come back on scheduled days. I work from home and my office was not in working order--I took three vacation days for the painting to be completed, those days were the days that the painter did not show. I missed almost a week of work due to this. We did communicate with Tom while he was on vacation about the issues. When back from vacation, Tom did come over immediately to review lack of progress and to make amends. The painting was completed much later than anticipated and trim work was still lacking. Also, when the basement bathroom shower was finally painted, we did not know that the fumes from the process would sickening...Tom said that it would smell some and to keep the basement door closed (to the upstairs), which we couldn't, as that is how our cats get to their food and liter boxes. The fumes were terrible and we had to open our windows to let the fumes out--the temps were well below zero outside. Although Tom reduced our bill for the basement paint job, we were not happy with the end product. We still have some areas that we need to fix, as we will not have them come back to fix. Tom is a nice guy, but the lack of attention to detail, work ethic and spotty consistency we would not recommend Tom's Painting.
