Recent Review: Rick Deneve's company reroofed our house several years ago. After a recent heavy rain, I noticed a wet spot on the ceiling. Rick was out shortly after I talked to him and quickly remedied the problem ( which was probably caused by an ice dam.) Rick has been prompt, professional and courteous in all dealings I have had with him. I would strongly recommend him for your roofing needs.
Recent Review: Tim had trouble getting parts from Anderson windows, but when they came everything went fine. He addressed any problems we brought up. Also recommended contractors for other aspects of the job. He and Randy were friendly and easy to work with.
Recent Review: Larry fixed the hanging piece and also did an inspection. Larry did not want to charge me. He quoted a price only after I insisted on paying. The lady who took my call was also very nice and helpful. I had called several top rated roofing companies from Angie list and none of them even responded. They are all only interested in big jobs. Larry was the only one who responded for fixing roof.
The crew was very professional and did an excellent job. There were several glitches, but everything eventually rectified.

WE SPECIFIED HEAVY SHAKES TO MATCH THE REST OF THE ROOF. WHEN THE SHAKES WERE DELIVERED WE DISCOVERED THEY WERE NOT HEAVY SHAKES. LANG INSISTED THAT THEY WERE. WE SHOWED LANG'S WORKERS THE PACKAGING MATERIAL SAID MEDIUM CEDAR SHAKES. LANG INSISTED THEY WOULD WORK. WE SAID THAT WAS NOT WHAT WE CONTRACTED FOR. LANG HALTED THE OPERATION AND HAD THEM SWITCHED AND INSTALLED THEM INCORRECTLY. WE HAD THE BUILDING INSPECTOR OUT TO INSPECT THE LANG ROOF BECAUSE WE SAW RAINWATER POURING THROUGH THE SIDE OF THE FASCIA ON THE HOUSE SIDE AND THROUGH THE SOFFIT. THE BUILDING INSPECTOR FOUND THREE SECTIONS OF THE CODE THAT THE JOB WAS NOT IN COMPLIANCE WITH. PROBABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT INFRACTION IS THAT THE SHAKES DO NOT EXTEND 2 INCHES BEYOND THE FASCIA. THE BUILDING INSPECTOR HAS SENT LANG A LETTER ENUMERATING THE ITEMS NOT IN COMPLIANCE WITH CODE. WE HAVE SENT LANG A LETTER REGARDING THE SAME. LANG REFUSES TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND SAYS HE IS WASHING HIS HANDS OF IT, END OF CONVERSATION! After Lang learned of our complaint on Angie's List, he agreed to meet with the Code Enforcement Building Inspector at our house to find out what needed to be corrected. It was worse than we thought. The list of code deficiencies on the cedar shake roof replacement were as follows: 1. The shakes did not overhang the fascia the minimum of two inches. 2. The 18" felt was not installed properly. 3. The shakes were not spaced properly. 4. The ice dam protection did not project a minimum of two feet inside the wall line. 5. The shingles were nailed improperly. The original Report Date on Angie's List was October 31, 2009. Lang has ignored the updated report from the Code Enforcement Building Inspector following their meeting. Also, the contract with Lang specified 50-year warranted heavy shakes. Instead, he installed shakes that were of much lesser quality with only a 30-year warranty. We kept calling for the warranty, and Lang kept promising he would send it. After many attempts to get the warranty, we finally received the warranty for 30-year shakes instead of the 50-year shakes that we paid for. It's no wonder Lang procrastinated on sending the warranty. Lang also guarantees his workmanship for 10 years.

This company installed an excellent roof, and we are very happy with the appearance of the roof and the attention to cleanup. The job was bid promptly and the salesperson followed up immediately after the installation. Where they fail is in communication, both with the installation crews and with the customer. We were notified on a Wednesday afternoon that they would be doing our roof the following day. I followed up with them that evening with a call to set the start time. The Thursday time meant I had to reschedule my housecleaning visit without 24 hours notice. The cleaning service was helpful in working me into a slot on Friday - no extra charge. We then received a call on Thursday afternoon that they had never made it to our jobsite and would be doing the roof on Friday! Now the housecleaners are very unhappy, a second visit cancelled with less than 24 hours notice and a charge. How can the company not know at 7:30pm what their work crew was going to be doing the following morning at 8:30am?? When they finally showed up on Friday, I immediately knew the reason. All the people we had spoken to prior to Friday morning seemed professional and responsive, but the work crew turned out to be Mexican, and not one of them spoke English! We assumed when we hired them that the Eastern Iowa Construction company would employ Eastern Iowans, but this is not the case. We prefer to buy American and hire American and were unhappy that this important fact was not discussed with us. No wonder there is poor communication between the office and the work crews, and no wonder that neither the office nor the customer knows what's going on - they don't speak the same language and they CAN'T communicate! I think this is a Big Fail. The company has said they will reimburse the cleaning charge but we have yet to see the statement. If you want a good job and aren't fussy about who's doing it, or when, I can attest that their workmanship and finished product is looks great.
