Business Description: We are a family owned business, that has a very hands on approach. We employ 5 children, along with 5 non related employees. We grow most of all our plants (annuals, perennials )with many started from seed. We have the largest selection of concrete statues, fountains, and benches in eastern Iowa. We also do yearly lawn service contracts along with snow removal. Retaining walls, patios, fireplaces, garden, water features we will be happy to give an estimate.

Despite checking references (homeowner and other contractors) and personally visiting other customers projects, this has been the worst home project experience of our lives.  Trent Rozinek (Backyard Rewards) signed a contract with us on 5 July 2011 to build an in-ground swimming pool.  As of May 20, 2012 we still have not received all of the equipment.  We hired a general contractor to coordinate our build of the pool as we were also installing retaining walls and a patio.  Trent would not communicate or follow-up with the general contractor unless we personally intervened and he would only communicate with us via text message or email (very rarely did we speak with him on the phone).  Trent repeatedly missed his commitments on when he would show up to do work and always had an excuse for why he wasn't there.  Although our signed contract with Backyard Rewards included the backfilling around the walls of our pool, Trent refused to perform the work.  We had to pay a third party almost $2,000 additional to backfill the pool.  After many weeks of delays we finally did get the basic pool installed and filled with water.  Trent, however, could not deliver the automatic cover or any of the pool equipment that I had paid for (pump, heater, cholrinator, automatic cover, etc.).  After multiple stories on why things were delayed we started calling the equipment suppliers directly and quickly discovered that our equipment was in stock, but Trent didn't have the money to pay for it.  Fortunately, we hadn't paid Backyard Rewards all of the money for the pool so we paid the suppliers directly.  This ended up costing us an extra $800 above the contract, but we were able to secure almost all of our equipment.  We did not, however, receive the basketball and volleyball sports equipment packages that we had paid for.  After repeated promises (and multiple excuses/stories/reasons) from Trent since September on when he was delivering the equipment we still do not have it.  We have also learned that Trent issued bad checks to all of the subcontractors who worked on our project.  If you are thinking of installing a pool, please do not use Backyard Rewards.

The salesman was quite informative on everything about pools and the care that they require. I did learn alot from him even though I did look elsewhere for comparative prices. I did not buy my pool there, only because I found a store closer to where I live. It is more convenient for location when the pool samples need to be checked.

He never finished the job. It was a disaster! I know that he stuck several other people too, since he said he?d give a discount if a good portion of the money was paid upfront. We had to pay all the subcontractors out too because they put a lien on the house, even though Trent was the one who rented the equipment and he wouldn?t pay them.  I would suggest not to even call him! Trent knew he had really screwed up and promised to repay us back all the money but we've not seen a dime from him and we are unable to reach him.

I stopped in on Sept 3rd because we were looking for a above ground swimming pool. We had already stopped at Pool Tech on Saturday Aug 31st and talked with them so we thought we'd shop a round a little. I chated with the manager and he was very polite and very informative and even gave us more to think about but I always seemed like I was a hindurance to him. We were looking at pools outside when he went in to get a price sheet for us. When we came in we waited approximately 20 minutes while he helped other people and answered the phone (there was anotheremployee there). After waiting he came over handed me the price sheet and started to walk away. I did have a couple questions and he did hurridly answer them but I just didn't feel like he cared about my business. We bought the next day from Pool Tech.

The pool was finally installed, near the end of the swimming season. We had to keep at the company to get the job done and receive all of the items listed on the contract. I did not enjoy working with this company.

It was a terrible experience. I am not a nagging type person but i was constantly having to call to get things done. They just slammed things together and got out as fast as possible. I could not get them to come back and fix things. Promises and promises they would be back with dates to do it and they never came. They wore me out. I finally had to have some additional work done on my back yard because the way they had done the landscaping had water pooling by the backside of our house from both my neighbors property and our property. The land sloped toward our house instead of away from it. Two pine trees died because they were basically sitting in water due to poor run off. I had a $400 locust tree which also died and they kept promising they would come back to replace it but never did so I have pay to replace it myself. My fault in it was I paid them before I was satisfied because they said cash flow was really tight and they really needed the money. I will never do that again.
