Business Description: Welcome to Iowa Home Restoration and Repair, LLC! *Now after working 4 years in Home Inspections with another company I am now adding this service to my business. I have inspected over 1500 homes in that time. With over 10 years of experience; We will offer; Owner supervision on all work, step by step systems of reporting to ensure you are happy with the work from start to finish, very competitive pricing, and experience in working with insurance companies. When you are investing in your home, your complete satisfaction is our number one goal. We specialize in foundation repair, waterproofing, mold remediation, mold inspections, and water damage. With mold, it represents a potentially significant health hazard for building occupants and a substantial liability for property owners. We offer professional mold remediation following all EPA and OSHA guidelines as well as industry certification protocols. We do an in-depth cleaning and disinfection of the affected areas, proper disposal of contaminated materials. Waterproofing: In my past I have built insulated concrete foundations and understand how water should be managed under the floor of a basement. I have taken that knowledge and applied it to existing basements. If you are going to the trouble of removing a basement floor the only real fix is to install a tiling system that is placed along side of the footing and not on top. Once water reaches the top of the footing you are just inches away of the water getting to the finished floor surface. With my past experiences I have added Home Inspections to my services. Even though this is a new service I offer, I have over 2800 inspections completed here in the Central Iowa area. I work with another inspector that has years of experience and as a team we identify more items as well as items for maintenance. We are able to complete most inspections in an hour to an hour and a half. Inspect reports are emailed to you on the next morning. Experience includes: Water Damage Restoration, Applied Structural Drying, Journeyman Textile Cleaner, Odor Control, Journeyman Fire and Smoke Restore. Certified Mold Remediation Contractor.

Recent Review: Standard Water Control Systems Inc. did the work in two days. Everyone was really good and it's working like a charm. They were nice and communicated well. They were on time. They called afterwards to check on whether it was working okay. Everything just worked out perfectly. We used their credit, where you have six months to pay it off and no interest, and that has worked out well, too.

Recent Review: Our basement is an old block basement built in 1923. Like many basements built during this period, it started to leak through the walls. Our options were limited because the basement wall is directly adjacent to the driveway, so digging around the outside perimeter of the house would require us to tear out the driveway. I called Bob Bauer basement waterproofing for an estimate. Bob Bauer came to our house and inspected the basement. He is a very nice, professional man who described the process of coating the wall with a special "paint". He said he's never had a basement leak after applying his treatment. I hired him to finish the job on our entire basement. After he finished, it looked great. However, within the year, the "paint" bubbled and leaked. I called Bob several times to fix the problem. He finally returned my call after several attempts over several weeks. He and his daughter eventually came to my house and refinished the leaking walls. After they left, unfortunately, it leaked again within a few weeks. I guess I had a feeling this may happen, but Bob assured me that he's never had a leaky basement in the 15+ years he's applied this treatment. Please let this serve as a word of warning if you plan to have your basement "waterproofed".

The crew was very professional, arrived on time or early, and work was completed as described.  When unexpected things were encountered along the way, they were good about explaining the issues and working with me on a solution.  (Example, I chose to add to the cost so the plumbers could fix additional items they discovered were not done to code)  The one problem I was surprised wasn't found before they even started was that the grade of my land prevented them from having the water exit out front into a bubbler.  It didn't affect the cost, but I would have appreciated knowing ahead of time.

The owner is a little rough around the edges when you talk to him, but he is workable. He took care of me. He satisfied. He did quality work. Basically, they came out and waterproofed our basement and the very next rain, my Egress window flooded and I freaked out. He could not get out of here right away and was like kind of dictating me what to do. I was like telling him that they needed to come out here and fix it. I told them that I did not do this, but they did. He and I kind of went back and forth. We were kind of arguing on the phone, but he ended up coming up and he did take care of it. They did a superb job and I never had another leak in my basement. My basement has been dry.

The crew arrived on time at 8 AM and work steadily until the job was completed at approx 3:30 PM. They cleaned up well after themselves.

He was professional. He was responsive because he followed up with me initially. I would not use him as it is already been put by someone.

According to the website, the person we met with is a "Foundation Expert."  Per his advice, we needed about $8000 in beams because the cement blocks showed bowing/cracking.  This house is only 650 sq feet and built in the 1950s.  He basically implied that the walls had extensive damage and the house would never sell unless we put beams up.  He deemed the repairs done by a previous homeowner as very bad and said they needed to be fixed immediately.  The waterproofing system was an additional $3500. The whole thing seemed more like a sales pitch using the fear factor of a bad foundation.  And, I was put off by the "buy now" price difference.  They would give me a "realtor discount" if I agreed to do the work and pay the deposit right away.  Like I'd ever spend $12K without getting other bids and researching the heck out of it. We decided to hire a structural engineer that wasn't trying to sell us something to inspect the basement and foundation.  Paying the engineer a couple hundred bucks was worth every penny.  After a full inspection, his professional opinion was that there were no structural issues.  The engineer report states that while the repairs made by the previous homeowner made were "unsightly" they are effective.  Meaning - the method they used was ugly, but the support it provided was effective and adding additional beams was unnecessary.  I would highly, highly recommend getting a structural engineer before hiring any company to basement repairs.  It saved us about $8000.
