Reviews in Kamuela to Install Artificial Turf

DNative Grounds
The yard was in good shape when this company took over the maintenance contract -- all areas were mowed, all flower beds, tree bases and setbacks were properly edged and free of weeds--but within a month grass and weeds had invaded all those areas, edges were untidy and overgrown, there was a proliferation of clover and other creeping weeds throughout the lawn and a serious thatch had begun to build up. Asphalt areas were also being undermined by invasive grasses, which break down and destroy the asphalt, and nothing had been pruned.  Moreover, there was inadequate clean up--the deck and the front steps were never cleared of debris: tree debris, like twigs, were simply stacked around the bases of the trees until they formed high piles, leaves piled up in corners and along the edges of the mondo grasses. Against homeowners' wishes (we asked for grass to be mowed to 2.5-3 inches in height to prevent build up of thatch which creates a fire danger in our area in the dry season), this company allowed grass to grow to heights above 5 inches, ignored requests to lower the height and then complained that it was too long to cut. They allowed flowering weeds to proliferate and the grass to invade previously clear areas (even to grow up the front of a retaining wall that had had a two foot clear setback prior to starting the contract. When I asked that our wishes be respected regarding grass height and when I pointed out that the edges of the beds were not being maintained and that weeds were taking over the grass, the owner was unresponsive. On the final visit there was so little done that I asked if they were rained out? The owner of the company responded that they would not be returning. I give this owner an absolute ZERO for the quality of her work and for her professionalism. Her business involves customer service but that did not seem to be part of her vocabulary.

AVetiver Farms Hawaii
These guys did a great job, despite very difficult working conditions on the steep hillside and dense weed/brush/rubbish infestation. For removal of larger weed trees they enlisted the help of Lucas Brower of Long Limbs Tree Services, who also did excellent work. Vetiver Farms Hawaii planted young vetiver grass plants about 4 inches apart in rows about 3 feet apart, with good quality weed mat installed securely between rows.  They then applied fertilizer for the new plants, and installed a full dripline irrigation system, complete with timer. Several weeks later they returned (at additional but reasonable cost) to check on the system, remove re-emerged weeds, make needed adjustments, and replace any failed vetiver plants. "Approximate Cost of Service" indicated above is per linear foot; total cost was approx. $7000 for four rows of vetiver plants, 155 feet per row, about 620 linear feet total (approx. 2000 plants).   This price is higher than I had anticipated, but much less than a retaining wall would have cost, plus I gain the advantage of having a living, "breathing", very "green" wall of grass roots holding and nourishing my hillside!

Excellent job done!!! My back yard was in need of some major care. We had some vehicles in the way & he moved them with ease. He even lined them up for us to get them towed out. Then we had him help clear the over grown grass and trees in the back side of our property. Man does it look like a whole new place. I was so glad he could work with my schedule. He even accepted payment via PayPal which was nice. We will definitely have him do more work around our property.

Neil is the best in the business at providing all we need to keep our garden and lawn in tip top shape. He prunes botanicals, mows the grass, edges, vacuums, controls pests, and in general keeps our botanical garden in the kind of shape to be proud to use and to show. He also does odd jobs and light hauling. He is a self starter; requires no supervision, though he welcomes direction; and he is prompt, courteous, and always charming.

AShawn Dorosett L
Shawn kept the yards neat and trim for the rental where I stayed. We were there for about 2 1/2 months over the summer. He was diligent, courteous, he always kept us informed when he would be there and he always followed through. The yard was about an acre in size, with a variety of vegetation, from grass to palms to a variety of shrubs. Shawn did a great job of keeping everything trimmed and looking great. He worked fast and accurately, and was happy to adjust his schedule to make sure it didn't interfere with ours. We were pleased enough with his work that we asked him to do most of a week's work on property we own in the same neighborhood. He cleaned up one of our vacant lots and took care of about 30 trees and shrubs on the property. Again, he did an excellent job. He cut grass and leveled almost two acres of weeds, planted many fruit and palm trees for us. He was reliable and trustworthy. If he said he would do it, I could count on it getting done. For gardening and lawn care, he was great.

I have an acre lot in HPP with a newly built house and the lot needed weeded / cleared of junk trees and bushes. The lot was left basically as nature and lava left it so other than the house area and driveway, it is not level and there are low / high spots / holes and crevices. There were some trees and plants I wanted left alone - ohia, java, coconut, pineapple, mango, banana, monkey pod, breadfruit, lemon, some were quite small. I called Backyard Monkey, the owner, Justin, came and checked out the lot and gave me a verbal estimate after we walked the property and marked the plants and trees I mentioned so they would not be cut down or mowed over accidentally. I accepted the verbal and set a date. The crew with owner showed up the day scheduled ( on time ) the crew worked approx 6.5 hours the first day and 6 hours the second day. The lead crew member. Troy, was good about keeping me informed of what they were doing and why. The verbal estimate was what I was billed. I liked the work well enough I scheduled regular maintenance. They have been back once so far, and I am still pleased, with the work and the maintenance cost. The junk trees and brush they cut / cleared the first time were put into some of the lower areas/crevices and they did use poison on those areas as well as on the sleeper grass that was starting to grow around the house area. I have dogs and they were good about explaining how long I should keep them off / out of the areas sprayed. The maintenance was one day and they did check that none of the junk was growing back and sprayed more sleeper grass. I would also like to mention that we rented while building and Backyard Monkey was the company I called to trim the coconut trees on that property. I heard about the company initially through East Hawaii BNI.

He quoted $450 for work that took only 6 - 7 hours to complete between two workers.  He arrived late and was in such a rush to do the job that he didn't check to see that everything was done well.  He tried to get out of certain work saying that he wasn't going to haul everything we agreed to but I told him that he would have to haul what we agreed to.  He said they were going to rake and haul the rubbish but he didn't rake and left some waste.  It wasn't meticulous. The beds that they weeded was like a rush job.  He left behind small weeds and dead leaves.  They were supposed to remove all the zoysia grass from the bed but looking in between some of the agapanthus plants were a lot of stollens. They hand pulled weeds on a hillside.  He said that was going to weed eat the shorter weeds but instead he poisoned and said he would be back to weed eat.  I hardly doubt it.  You would think he would weed eat first and then poison. The worst part of their work was that he pulled out two rare poha plants that he didn't tell about but later said he was going to pull out the plants because they are a pest where he lives and I told him, "No."  Later I noticed the irrigation hoses and missing plants.  He filled in the hole so you couldn't really tell that they were missing. Be cautious because he knows how to work around you.  He might show you pictures to convince you that he does good work but take caution.  He is not about the customer.
