Recent Review: This is a family business (Alan is the contractor with his son-in-law Larry as his most able assistant).  Dependable and trustworthy.  We had no reservations with them working while we were not home- a key reason why we hired them again for the kitchen counters and are on their calendar for another project! We appreciated their flexibility as we developed the plan since this was a total remodel.  Alan and Larry showed up ready to work and wasted no time tearing up the bathroom.  We decided at the last minute to remove the jetted tub and expand the shower.  Alan helped us come up with the plan to use the remaining space to put in a makeup vanity.   Alan also suggested putting in a pocket door which eased the entry into the bathroom while removing a poorly designed door.  The tile floor and shower are exceptionally beautiful.  Alan and Larry are superb tile layers and shower builders.  The transition from the shower to the tile floor is seamless.  Alan was able to install the rain shower head despite the high ceilings in the bathroom.  He was also willing to customize the shower to our specifications, including adding an additional niche.   Alan and Larry went the extra mile to provide us the highest quality product.  After tearing up the original tile, they discovered that the builder had cut corners on the sub-flooring.  Larry installed new sub-flooring.  The also found that the walls required additional insulation which they gladly remedied.  After the cabinet builder installed the new cabinets, Larry came back to touch-up the paint. No home renovation plan stays on schedule as planned, but the shipping delay for the drain floor was not their fault.  We also had to get fit into the granite company's busy schedule.  Alan always found a way to keep the project moving forward. We miss having them around and look forward to seeing them again for our next project.

Kays Painting & Home Maintenance
Recent Review: In the process of patching the spot in the ceiling they discovered moisture coming from the attic. Bill went to investigate and showed us where the builder had put an extra pipe through the roof that led to the attic and stopped. It had no purpose and rain was coming in the house through that pipe. We had extra shingles, so he removed the pipe from the roof and shingled the hole in the roof. We were very happy he found and corrected that builder error! They painted in a rush so they came back the next week to paint the 2nd coat til we were satisfied. We found him to be hard working, fast, respectful and fair. We will call him again for future projects when he has time.

FProfessional Wood Replacment
I became concerned regarding the quality of his work towards the end of the project.  We were unable to come to a resolution largely due to his beligerent and abrasive demeanor whenever I would ask him to address my concerns.  Ultimately, I filed a claim in small claims court and was awarded the maximum allowed which was $7800.  There are a myraid of problems with all of the items listed above.  Most items were left unfinished and some were just never started.  All I wanted was quality and timely work for the money I paid.  I have received niether one.  He has yet to settle the claim so I can complete the renovations as well as repair his poor workmanship.  This has ultimately left my home in disrepair for an extended period of time.

AKays Painting & Home Maintenance
First, Mr. Kay came to look at the room and give an estimate. He was prompt and professional. His written estimate was detailed which included the tasks he would do and the itemized cost for each task. After reviewing his estimate and agreeing to it, we set up a date for the work to begin. He explained in detail the type of primer and paint I needed and how much I needed. Mr. Kay also recommended who to speak to at the local hardware store. When I got to the store, I found out that he had left a 15% off coupon for me to use on the paints. The day before the work, I called him to confirm the appointment. I didn't get a hold of him so I left a message. He called me back within a few hours and said he was all set to begin. On the day of the work, Mr. Kay and his son were prompt and ready with all the necessary painting equipment. They started at 8:30 and were done around 4:30. At first, I was not sure about the paint's evenness so I kept questioning him about it. He assured me that it looked that way b/c it wasn't completely dry. He said that some areas were dry while others weren't so that's why it looked uneven. He advised me to wait until the whole room was completely dry before getting worried. He also assured me that if it was not right, he would come back, if necessary, to fix it. Mr. Kay was right--the room dried evenly. Each wall looks great! He did a wonderful job. While he (and his son) were painting, Mrs. Kay was removing wallpaper from the toilet room. She was extremely careful with the task so she wouldn't rip off any dry wall. Mr. Kay would help, advise, and/or check in on her whenever necessary. He even removed (and reassembled) the toilet tank to get the paper behind it. He also fixed a few holes/patches in the bathroom that were discovered as the work progressed. Lastly, Mr. Kay monitored his son throughout the day. He would direct, advise, check, and help his son as needed to assure a job well done. Before he left, I also got an estimate on replacing a ceiling fan, 4 bathroom faucets, and kitchen faucet. I plan to call him soon.

He works with a lot of contractors. They also did painting, put in a shelf for me in the bonus room. They have done pretty good project. They do plumbing work and could do any work like even carpentry, plumbing, painting and whatever you what to be done in your house. They also put a stairway for me at one point. They are very cost effective. They are a little bit slower to get to you as they have lot of projects but the quality of the work is worth a little bit extra wait. They also have different staff when they are working in putting flooring, plumbing and chair railing, so they can’t have same people and they have different people for different work.

We LOVE our new bathroom and were very pleased with the quality of Allen's work. Numerous individuals have seen the work Allen did in our home and have been very complimentary of his work, as well. He was instrumental in the design of our new bathroom, making practical and aesthetically pleasing suggestions to best meet our needs. We found him to be very attentive to any questions or concerns that we had along the way. He was always pleasant, courteous, and professional. We had to be away from home for several days while the work was taking place, but had no reservations about allowing Allen to continue working in our home during our absence. He is honest, trustworthy, and stands behind his work. He is willing to "go the extra mile" to make sure that his customers are happy for the long haul. Allen was a pleasure to work with, and we would have no reservations about contracting with him again in the future.

FCarbon Construction
1.) Paid $400 for the polyurethane of hardwood floors.  Their first attempt left grass and dirt debris.  They failed to cover all sections of the floors.  The second attempt did not fair any better to include poly drips on baseboards and walls.  As a result I obtained and used the correct instruments to polyurethane hardwood floors myself. 2.) Paid $250 for installation of bathroom accessories (towel rings/bars, toilet paper roll, robe hooks etc).  However when used or touched they fell off the walls.  Had to get another company to correctly install items. 3.) Paid $1200 for plumbing/labor installation when sometime later the middle bathroom experienced a major water leak so much to the point of water flowing down the hallway.  The newly custom built cabinet was completely soaked.  Had to hire another person and pay $75 to have the incorrectly installed faucets fixed.  Carbon Construction's (CC) people had the flex line twisted and crimped and used electrical tape to hold in place. 4.) Paid $7600 for "Proposal to correct drywall, trim, and paint; install metal shelving in master closets; including painting fireplace & siding."  Master bathroom:  The paint job in the master bathroom is sloppy.  Both new custom built vanity cabinets have paint splatter and paint spray over them even down to the baseboards. It's infuriating!  The custom built bench has paint splatter too. On two walls there is a total of three holes patched to the size of 3" X 5" which have not been sanded nor repainted.  Toilet door has paint so thin you can see streak marks from where it was not properly coated.  Ends of the quarter round are raw and have not painted.  There are paint marks on granite and wood trim.  There are permanent scratches on the newly laid tile where CC's team slid the bathtub across instead of picking it up. Master bedroom closets: CC's team took down one closet door and never replaced it.  So we are door-less.  The other closet door lacks a thorough paint job on one side and the other has so much that dried paint drips are visible.  Both closets' racks were installed incorrectly using linen shelves (and upside down).  Without "cropping" clothes, the racks would not properly fit hanging dress shirts, suits, or pants.  Had to hire another company and pay $261.63 to correct CC's mistake.  This company person stated, "In my decades of experience this has to be the third worse closet installation I've every seen." When Cliff Russell of Carbon Construction requested a review and  thanked me for using his company dated October 2, 2014, I was shocked and told him so stipulating through email the unfinished projects.  I also reminded him of the Sept. 23, 2014 "punch out" list with over 25 items that still have not been addressed.  My only response from him was, "call me."  I also asked him to explain or refresh my memory as to "what siding" was painted as stipulated in his proposal.  No response. If this system would let me I'd upload all the photos that were also sent to CC over a month ago. It's been exactly one month since the written request for corrections was given to Mr. Russell.  He never in turn contacted me in an effort to correct anything.  If he had I would not have submitted this review.
