Recent Review: The contractor performed a free site survey and gave me a detailed cost estimate. It was his first solar hot water installation, so he did not charge for labor for that portion of the job. Upon my approval, he ordered the panels and other parts, which I paid for in advance. The solar hot water equipment arrived quickly and three men installed it correctly in the course of two days. They had some trouble routing the copper pipe, so ended up putting two extra 2 inch holes in the floor of the upstairs laundry closet when their initial design did not work. They filled the extra holes with expanding foam. The solar electric panel delivery was delayed due to factory back orders, but they eventually arrived two weeks later. Installation of the solar electric panels, inverter and wiring took four days, with the code inspection on the fifth day. All went smoothly, including scheduling of the utility tie-in with the local electric co-op and the county code inspection. Costs were exactly as forecast with no overruns. Two years later the system works perfectly with no problems.
