Recent Review: Mr. Strickland's crew showed up promptly at 9:00am on 7/13-14-15. In less than three days they had accomplished the following: repaired circuits to three bedrooms, living room, and hall; installed receptacles in living room, dining room, master bedroom and bathroom; rehung light fixtures in one bedroom and the dining room; installed security light on front porch and at end of house in backyard; and identified all circuits in breaker box. Each day, they cleaned up after themselves both inside the house and out in the yard. Before leaving, the crew chief would provide a list of hours worked and tasks accomplished, with full explanations as needed. We anticipate having additional electrical jobs in the future and would hire no one but Mr. Strickland. We were totally pleased.

Recent Review: Steve notified me by text message, with a twenty minute heads up, that he would be on time for our appointment and was! He arrived at my business (with clean feet) and got right to work. He first changed the lights at the front of my store to ones that were properly connected (unlike the old ones!) and meticulously placed! He cleaned up behind himself and I was able to open my store while he moved on to a room in the back that was previously unusable due to the lack of lighting. He removed the single pendant light and replaced it with one that brought a new usable space to light! He choose a light that looked good, was wired correctly, and cost efficient for my business too! He then went on to install new outlets in my stock room. He took the extra time to make sure that the outlet covers were aesthetically pleasing (something that as a female is important to me : )as well as perfectly, evenly placed!  Once he was finished, he made sure that he had picked up everything behind himself and presented me with an invoice- that matched his quote!  I will definitely call Intelligent Design and Renovation in the future.  Steve was punctual (something that is important to me because I have very little flexibility in my schedule), polite, clean and honest! He gave me a great quote and it wasn't a penny more in the end and I felt comfortable around him. Not having much experience with repairmen- the experience with Intelligent Design and Renovation put all my anxieties to rest!

AAlexander Electric Co
I called Alexander Electric to schedule a visit to provide an estimate. They came out a few days later and inspected what was needed and provided the estimate within a couple days. Work was scheduled for the same week and they arrived promptly and completed the job in a timely manner.

They were really late in providing an estimate.  I found them on Angie's List.  They were prompt in coming over and doing the estimate.  It was 2 weeks later that they finally sent me an estimate.  They also sent me an e-mail to say sorry that it took so long.  I'm looking at the e-mail now so I don't know if I would recommend them or not.  I guess it might be good to get an estimate from them.  I may get an estimate from them again in the future.  They came over right away so their punctuality was good.

After the walk-through, I emailed Mr Humphries a detailed list of everything that we had discussed including number and location of outlets.  All of the items we had discussed to be included in the estimate of $9100. Mr. Humphries had to wait until some demolition was completed and a new recessed area for a refrigerator had been built, but that was quickly done by another group. Initially I was very pleased with the electrical work. When the rat's nest of wiring in the original electrical panel was gone, Mr. Humphries emailed me pictures of the completed work - and informed me that he had replaced the 100 amp service with a 200 amp service (!). We had agreed -after the fact- that he would take the 100-amp electrical panel in an even trade. From there, things seemed to deteriorate fast. Mr. Humphries started calling my handyman (on my dime) and telling him he needed holes cut, or this or that done. When I came down at 3 weeks to inspect what had been done at this point, and expecting it to be almost completed, I found that Mr. Humphries  had rented some kind of saw and cut channels in almost every lath and plaster wall in the main level to run the new wiring instead of pulling the wire. And he wanted to charge me an extra $3800 because "it was taking longer than he thought." The cost to repair those walls will be at least that much! He finally got recessed lights in the kitchen and living room and installed some of the new fixtures inside and out in July, but I had to hire another electrician to finish the job after not hearing from Mr. Humphries  in almost 6 weeks. During this time, there was no power available in the house except for one outlet on the main level and one in the basement. The sump pump in the basement had been disconnected and the basement flooded during a rain. (He did come and re-establish power to the sump pump when I called him.) The mini blinds that I had intended to use for the next couple of years to save money have been destroyed, he left windows open, left the front of the house unlocked, completely filled my garbage can and my neighbor's (who was very unhappy), when those were full he piled the trash in an enclosed area on the front porch (it was waist high).  Inside, as if the channels in the walls were not enough, he broke out a large area of bricks in an interior wall that have to be repaired and ripped out some of the tongue and groove paneling upstairs breaking off the tongue on the boards. This was not necessary as there was an 3' by 4' opening in the wall at that area already. In short, Mr. Humphries may be fine as an electrician, I have some reservations there, but he lacks professionalism and common courtesy. I ended up locking him out of the house on the advice of my lawyer and hiring another electrician to finish the job. I would NEVER use him for another job, nor would I recommend him to anyone else. I do have pictures of all of the claims that I make here.
