James completed 90% of the work but immediately stopped working and returning phone calls once he was given final payment. A report was filed with the Better Business Bureau, and they, too, were unable to get a response. Work began in April 2010 and wound down to the 90% complete stage in July. The process was relatively slow-going. At least twice James announced on late Friday afternoon that he would be out of town the following week for family vacation. Later in the process, he did not show up at all and only responded to phone calls and text messages after days of being missing. He explained that he was doing subcontracting work to make ends meet and was having trouble keeping all of his commitments. I said that I understood the importance of prioritizing family and his trying to please all people, but I also said that he and I had an agreement and he was simply not living up to his end of the deal. In July, most of the work was complete except for cleaning up grout and paint on the floor and installation of an access door or panel for the valves on the enclosed Roman tub. James had been saying for six weeks that he was going to have a custom door ordered at Lowe's so that it would be easy to access the valves in the future. I called and called about this; twice he said he'd follow up with Lowe's, then he simply stopped returning calls. I contacted a relative who also tried reaching him. After no responses to either of us, a grout-covered floor, and a hole in the wall, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Ultimately, there was no response and I had to finish the work - very minor and at a cost of less than $20 - myself. The work that James/C and C Services did do has held up well. I've had to touch up the shower grouting in a few places, but otherwise no significant issues. James seemed like an honest, fair, and trustworthy business owner. Unfortunately, he did not complete his work and offered no response or explanation for not honoring the agreement.
