Recent Review: Removed asphalt and concrete from our old driveway and turn around, hauled it off, regraded and repaved.  Next he also added a new asphalt surface on top of the old asphalt and rock surface lof a long easement road leading to the property. The road was in bad shape and very bumpy and broken.  It was too long and expensive to have the old road removed as we did the driveway and turnaround.  However, Jerry gave us a very attractive price to add a new top and level it out in the process.  It is 100% better than it was and I am so glad we took his recommendation. Jerry is honest and knows the business. He works hard to please his clients and do a great job.

Recent Review: The work was done well; I am pleased with the result. Due to a tight schedule, however, they started a day later than the original schedule, and as a result finished a day later as well. The owner has crews in several southern cities, and he travels to assist as needed. Phone calls were not always returned promptly, nor were we notified of some of the schedule changes. As of this writing (5 days after the concrete was poured), we are still waiting for the top soil backfill along the edges of the driveway. In addition, many pieces of concrete were left in the lawn, creating a hazard when mowing. I had to clean that up myself. Overall a great result, they just need to work on attention to detail after the pouring is finished.

Recent Review: Driveway and walkway were completed. Staff/ owner were very nice and was a very good price but never finished the work. I am very disappointed. I have called owner several times and twice he told me he was coming to finish the work and he never showed. I paid half before he started and the rest when concrete was finished prior to the color being done.

Recent Review: Johnnie Smith is a very courteous and quick moving contractor. He does business around Augusta and any areas far reaching around Wrightsville. He gave us a decent price for the job so we didn't get multiple bids nor any references. That was a huge mistake. He came on the day we decided and did the job quickly. My wife noticed him dumping a lot of asphalt towards the end of the driveway. He did this probably when he thinned the thickness around the circle of the driveway fearful of having to order another truck to finish appropriately. The driveway thickness should be around 1.5 to 2 inches thick for a sturdy driveway. My damaged areas are only an inch thick. I could see it after removing it. One section crumbled and alligatored which he returned to fix for free. However, that area is getting another repair that I am paying another contractor to fix. I am paying to overlay the circle drive which he cheated the contracted thickness. He also seal coated the drive. I can't tell if he did anything. He said it would be gloss black and last several years like that. That was a tall tale. The second seal coat was free because of the repairs. It looks nothing like my neighbors do it yourself job; his looks great like a new drive. On Magnolia Lane off of William Few Pkwy, My neighbor hired him for the association to repair their private paved road. When I learned recently that their horrible looking repaired road was done by Johnnie Smith, I was astonished how he could get hired around here. Obviously, my brother in law who was in charge of hiring the contracted did not consult with others. So I am going through the trouble to put reviews on any site that records them. I would like to post pictures. But you can ride down Magnolia Lane and see for yourself before it gets repaired. Good luck finding a good affordable asphalt contractor. I will rate my current one after the repairs.

Reviews in Augusta to Seal Asphalt

FAugusta Fencing LLC
I spoke with owner of HBC Builders, Marcus Peterson, by phone on or about Dec. 10, 2013 about constructing a concrete driveway apron, at which time we discussed price and a construction date. On Dec. 14, 2013, Mr. Peterson and his concrete sub-contractor came to the site and the three of us discussed how the concrete should be poured. Very specific instructions were given that the finished grade (top of slab) would be level with the existing grade (top of the ground). This was not done. When I asked about welded wire fabric reinforcing, I was assure that the "new fiber reinforced concrete" did not need WWF, therefore it was not placed in the slab. As a consequence, the side of the slab is broken in one place where a delivery truck drove over it. Because the site is on the high side of a curve, an additional instruction given was that there should be a 12 inch wide strip of concrete adjacent to the roadway. This was not done. The result is that the end points of the concrete on both sides of the driveway are now cracked and are breaking due to high speed traffic edging off the asphalt. Again, as the site is on the high side of the roadway, an unnecessary "lip", a one inch edge, was left at the place where the concrete joins the asphalt. The concrete was supposed to be dyed (an additional expense) after the concrete cured for a month. As of this date, October 28, 2014, there has been no dye applied.
