Roof Systems Co (Jeromy Lyles and crew) installed two roofs on two homes on our property for a total of $6,700. We paid him in cash the day the work was started and completed. The next day, Jeromy called and told us we had underpaid him by $1,000. We had been working several projects (laying floors, building a porch, installing ceiling fans, etc) and had several thousand more on hand when we paid him. When told to count the money Jeromy told us he had counted it 3x. When reminded of this the next day, Jeromy stated he knew he had said that but he was tired and hot and was just trying to get everything finished up and didn't really count it but just scooped it up. We are very honest people and we were very taken aback and upset. After MUCH discussion and debate we chose to pay the additional cash because we didn't want any controversy with them. That was a MISTAKE. Upon inspection of our roofs over the next few days, we found we had empty holes where screws had been installed (apparently misplaced or incorrectly installed) and pulled back through the metal... a warped panel from a repair that they had to come back and do (post installation) when we discovered rain running behind the metal on a joined corner. We also found caulked holes and messed up screws that had been caulked over. The vent boots on one roof were re installed without all of the screws and poorly caulked to prevent leaking. One of the crew members threatened to cut my dogs throat when she was startled and growled at him; I put her up immediately after that happened. I let it go, but his words upset me at the time. Some of the special leak proof screws were put in crooked so the seal is improper and can eventually leak. Also, there are screws that do not connect to anything below the metal because the roof slats were not run perfectly straight so the roofers missed the roof slats they had installed for securing the metal to the roof. These two roofs were installed about 6 weeks ago. Both of them were installed with metal purchased by Jeromy Lyles from Macon Metal Roofing. About 4 weeks after installation, we requested Macon Metal Roofing activate their advertised 40 year warranty on our "Polar White" roof due to rust appearing in several ares over the surface of the roof. Macon Metal Roofing Manager and the company owner (Jay Williams) came out to our property for a site visit and confirmed it was indeed rusting in various places across the roof surface; since then, Mr Williams called one time after I e-mailed them (about a week after the site visit) and asked them their position on replacing the metal on our roof. He told me they had begun an investigation and communiation with the metal roof manufacturer and the metal painters and had isolated the roll from which our Polar White metal roof was cut and they were still investigating. It has now been 2 more weeks and Mr. Willim's has not contacted us further. He has not replied to either of my two e-mails and now (21 Sep 2015) my e-mails are being rejected by the e-mail address we have been using and which was provided on the business card given to us by Mr. Jay Williams, the owner of Macon Metal Roofing and Smith-built homes. We saved a long time for this project and have become very frustrated with our entire experience. We are supposed to have a 10 year labor and 40 year material warranty but Jeromy Lyles will no longer return phone calls or texts and Macon Metal Roofing has delayed correcting our 6-week old brand new rusting roof and is not communicating with us. Also, Macon Metal Roofing WILL NOT produce a written copy of their advertised 40 year Warranty despite being asked via text, over the phone, in person (to the company owner and Macon Metal Roofing Manager) and via e-mail. We have been provided NOTHING that describes what our 40 year warranty covers. Consequently, at this juncture, it would appear we have no warranties at all since we can not get (to date) a replacement of our roof due to a serious material quality deficiency and the installer will not reply to communicatoin. We are extremely upset.
