We bought the land in 2004, prior to the hurricane season. John was recommend by a friend who had her house and her mother's house built by him. We started working with John in March 2004 and signed a contract to build our house in June 2004. As first-time home builders we has lots of questions about building codes, materials, reading blueprints, etc. John was very patient about answering all of our questions. The land was scheduled to be cleared in summer 2004. Hurricanes Jean and Frances delayed the schedule and with materials in short supply, work didn't begin until early 2005. We found John Lloyd to be an honest, conscientious person. For example, when a crack developed as the house foundation dried, he brought in a structural engineer to evaluate the foundation. The engineer found it was sound and to ensure that the tile that would be laid on top stayed securely in place, the engineer recommended that a membrance be overlaid on top of the foundation. John took this at his cost and had the work done. Our tile is perfect 6 years later. John was there whenever each of the sub-contractors came, checking on their work, answering our questions (we rented a place 4 blocks away), and correcting anything that wasn't being done according to his (high) standards. We were very pleased with the workmanship. The work continued in a timely manner, accommodating hurricanes and supply shortages. We moved in March 2006.. The house is well built with no structural flaws.
