Recent Review: Dave is wonderful! He's done several projects for me. This one - I couldn't do myself, never mind lifting a 65# microwave! He even took the time to reinforce the bottom shelf where the microwave hung to make sure it was good and sturdy. Taking an extra initiative to make sure the work is sound IS a good thing! I like this! He always returns my calls, even if we have to play "phone tag" a few times. An honest and punctual guy, if it's a repair he's not licensed for or that he generally doesn't do, he'll let you know up-front. I would definitely recommend Dave for anyone who needs handyman-type things done around the house. He's my go-to guy and I've referred him to many in my neighborhood who've been just as appreciative and satisfied with his work as I have.

Recent Review: Can't say enough good words about Dan. He is professional, does excellent work and his prices are reasonable. This is the second time I've had work done and am scheduling having him install backsplash tile in my kitchen. I highly recommend him.

Recent Review: It went pretty well considering some misunderstanding of how much room should have been allotted for a new future refrigerator.  Tony and I spoke on the phone and I asked him to make the opening 36" wide and the opening turned out to be only 30" wide (the width of the existing refrigerator). Our tenant was an issue with Tony, which Tony handled quite well. All-in-all, I'm sure Tony and we were glad the renovation came out as well as it did, all things considered.

Recent Review: We tore out our kitchen due to water damage to the cabinets. We had a cabinet contractor but he didn’t do tile or plumbing. Our contractor recommended Wayne Gregory who owns HOUSURGEON, Inc. Wayne tore out the old wall tile, plumbing and removed the other kitchen appliances. The tile work had to be coordinated so it was removed after the cabinets come out and the wall was repaired for new tile. The new cabinets were installed with new counter tops. Wayne then installed the new tile, new plumbing, a new microwave and reinstalled the stove, refrigerator and dishwasher. He reconfigured the plumbing under the sink creating more room. There was a problem around the dishwasher and he fixed the cabinet. There seems to be no limit to his abilities. Wayne’s work was excellent and he was always on time and did exactly what he agreed to. We could count on him being here ready to work at the time he agreed to be here. He has good equipment, years of experience and a great truck with parts and tools. Wayne is very easy going and a pleasure to be around when he is working. We highly recommend Wayne and HOUSURGEON, Inc for any work that he does. He is a top notch Contractor/Sub-Contractor for remodeling your kitchen. We found his prices to be very reasonable. Recent Review: During the flooring installation, we were overjoyed by the diligence and care the team used when installing our new flooring and the baseboards.  The same can be said for the cabinet and countertop installations.   All of the items they removed (microwave, plumbing, electrical outlets) were reinstalled and replaced as part of the installation.  While replacing furniture, they worked with us to ensure we were happy. We were not happy with the solution they provided for the under-counter kitchen trash container so we returned it (and have yet to learn whether we'll get $ back) and installed one we purchased at Lowe's.  The solution that DMJ provided was two smaller wooden containers with a wooden cover that slid on a track.  They didn't slide very well and were smaller than we cared for and were much heavier than we expected.  We replaced this with a simple 30-qt plastic container on a wire-rack that slid on smoother rails. Upon completion, we have provided DMJ with a list of items that must be repaired.  Two are flawed or scratched drawer fronts and we are awaiting these.  They also have to complete work on two thresholds and we question if two other thresholds will be durable enough to last. The countertop installation was as nicely done as any others that we have seen (this is the 3rd solid-surface counter we've done in 3 houses). Overall, this was a great value!  We got the flooring and kitchen done for what another company was going to charge us for just the kitchen work, and they told us we had to do our own plumbing and electricity.

Recent Review: Update: 1/20/11 The number associated with this company is now listed as out of New Jersey, not Ocala, FL Robert was one of several who responded to my craigslist ad to trade a scooter for kitchen work. On Friday, October 15, Robert and I agreed on the job to trade the scooter (valued at $800 per, a local scooter shop that had kept the scooter for sale through the summer months and had done repair work on it previously) plus $100 cash, and I buy all materials. Robert inspected the scooter at that time. I told him he should start it and take it for a ride, but he refused, and we made a verbal agreement. He claimed he could finish in 3 days and was anxious to start immediately; he assured me it would be done by the end of the weekend, which was essential as I had a major gathering at my home on October 23 and hadn?t planned to start the work until it was over. I met Robert with my trailer at Lowe's on Saturday, October 16 at 7 am to buy materials. He again assured me, as I was reticent, that the job would be done and I would be happy. I told him that I was hard to please, and he said that was his favorite kind of customer. Four days later, the job was not done, but I let him take the scooter as he seemed honest, had worked hard, and said he had a friend looking at it the next day. Originally he told me the scooter was for his wife and daughter, but then he said he didn?t really want it anyway, that they probably wouldn't ride it, and hinted that he did too much work for it. I became suspicious then, but a deal is a deal and he had made it. I last saw Robert on Tuesday, October 19 at about 10:30 pm. The work was not done, but he promised to call me the next day after work because my new faucet was faulty and I was going to try to find a replacement. He did not call or come over. He claims to be a 24-hour emergency service, and the next day I had trouble with my pump and called him. No return call. I found someone else to do the repair. Thereafter, I made several calls to him to arrange for materials, etc. for 10/30, as well as an email outlining the remaining work, and was ignored until I left a message saying I felt like I'd been scammed. This was only after I had called his house several times, with the last being told by his daughter that she would see if he was there. I waited and a couple of minutes later, the phone went dead. When I called back, there was no answer, only the machine and so I left the message. Within minutes, I received an email from Robert stating he was out of town with no phone (yet he got that message!) and that he was scammed by me (something about the scooter, which he inspected prior to the arrangement, not being mechanically sound), and that he was a man of his word so he'd be at my house at 9 am on 10/30. I responded to that email, assuring him I'd make it right if what he said was true, though it wasn't to my knowledge, and that I had intended to pay him for any work beyond what was agreed on originally. He never showed, nor contacted me in anyway. I have partially finished kitchen cabinets that he built from scratch with no shelves, and for two of those cabinets, on each side of the dishwasher, no walls at all; the doors do not close (apparently because he did not use the proper grade of plywood), the water to the fridge leaks, the microwave shelf does not fit the microwave, the floor he installed is not level, outlets are not replaced, the disposal was unsafely installed, etc. etc. and I've never heard from him. I have a full array of photographs, not only of the finished work, but the work in progress featuring Robert and the two different helpers he had working during the period from 10/16 to 10/19/10. In addition, my home was a mess from his work. He cut and sanded inside and out (on the carport, in the sunroom, and in the front yard), and he and his helpers left cigarette butts, screws and trash where they fell. My kitchen floor heating vent, screwed back into place, was filled with sawdust, insulation, wood scraps and even a broken saw blade and left that way. I had asked him if I should cover things, and he said no, but then dust filled my entire house, ruining much, and the repair from his work is going to be significant. He had convinced me he could build cupboards and to not use premade ones, including the sink base I had already purchased, which was a concern regarding matching additional cupboards later, but he said he?d be back to do more work. He misled me to believe he was solely in business for himself, but on Sunday night informed me that he had to go to his real job on Monday, but if he didn't have to, he'd call and work here. He did work for me on Monday; he did have to go to his regular job as a painter on Tuesday, and promised to return after work at 4:30 and finish. He did not return (nor call) until 8:30 PM on Tuesday, did not finish, but took the scooter at about 10:30 pm. I was exhausted and not thinking clearly. He asked me not to put his name or an amount on the title, and I did not. My home was a shambles. He has never even called, and certainly did not show up on 10/30. In addition, Robert convinced me to use a composite countertop he had on hand instead of the tile I wanted, but could not afford and was willing to wait for, living with just plywood for the duration. His installation work is dismal. He did not have me buy matching caulk, so he hurriedly put in white caulk - it's a mess. There is no way to match his counter, though he assured me he would (for additional money) build me a bank of matching cupboards on the other side of the kitchen, and that the counter he put in could be tiled over. Since the seams are off, I doubt this is true, and certainly there are no cupboards to match those he installed. Since Robert did not provide me with any business cards, I offered to design some for him, which I did, he proofed, but since he never returned, did not get. He did not give me an address, but I found it doing a reverse phone check for his telephone number. It is not listed in his name. He does drive a white older van with roof racks and the name of his company painted on the side claiming he has been serving Florida for 20 years, and advertising 24-hour emergency service. He promised me a full invoice, said he'd sign anything, but he did not return to do so. I do have a check he signed for $100 that I cashed after the first day's work during which the 10x10 kitchen subfloor was removed and replaced. Prior to the cash payment, he hit me up for gas money, and I gave him $7 for that. Robert told me that he got a 10% discount at Lowe's but that was also a lie. He did get a discount when he claimed he was former military and forgot his card, but not otherwise. The materials list was to be acquired in one trip using a discount card I had, but it took three because Robert is not professional. These were not trips for to fetch incidentals, as I bought those as needed from a more local store since Lowe's is over 20 miles from me, but rather for large purchases for lumber, etc. His original estimate for materials was off by double. All in all, this was a terrible experience. Robert got the scooter, $100 cash, an electric chain saw and a heavy duty drill for his work, approximately $1000 total. I also provided lunch for three days. I got a messed up kitchen and spent nearly $500 on materials that are mostly wasted as the work will largely need to be redone. It looked good at the outset, but now it's worse than the no-kitchen I started with. I'm considering legal action and certainly a report to the BBB as I do have all the emails, the ad he responded to, photographs and a copy of the scooter title.

The first day, he arrived to my home to install a dishwasher, which went smoothly. The next day, he installed an over-the-stove microwave. I didn?t know the height that was required since I never had this type of microwave. During the installation, I mentioned several times that I thought the microwave was too high. He kept saying that the microwave needed to be that high, and after researching this, I found out that the microwave doesn?t need to be that high. Throughout the entire process, his attitude became unpleasant, rude, and disrespectful. After using the microwave the next day, I realized that the microwave was, in fact, too tall for me, and I?m 6?. I contacted him the next day in regards to this, and he told me he?d come back and fix it, but wouldn?t do it for nothing, even though that should be covered under warranty. During the conversation, he began yelling at me, had all these quotes that I never actually said, and he wouldn?t let me get a word in. At that point I ended the conversation. I emailed him to let him know that I stopped that check, which cost me $35, and was sending another check that was for $175, which was payment for half the day. He then called two more times, leaving messages, and sent me several emails, threatening me. He changed his tune after while, insisting that he would come back to fix the work. I responded to his emails, and let him know I was finished with this situation. I just want him to leave me alone; I don?t appreciate being harassed or threatened, and I don?t feel comfortable having him back in my home. Also, after I let him know that the first check was being stopped, he told me it cost him $12 since that check didn?t go through (apparently he tried cashing both the first check and the check for $175, even though I told him that the first check was cancelled).

We initially asked the installer if he could install our new microwave oven above our stove. Explaining in detail, that my wife wanted it higher so her large pots would fit on the stove top with enough sufficient clearance between the units. To have this done, we needed them to cut into the upper two cabinet doors half way, reattach the hardware and finish with a nice professional look. The two men, surveyed the job and said they could do it, and do the electrical also for around $250, and we agreed to the price. They worked on the job for about 2-21/2 hours. When done, we were excited to have the job done, and our oven operational, but cosmetically, there was/is much to be desired. Their cabinet work was very poor, crooked handle on one door, hinge was angled on the bottom of the other, plus they used off colored caulk to cover laminate panel gaps in the finished sides. They also scratched the top of our brand new range top control panel.  (Note:At the time of this kitchen work, we also had a new roof going on the house where the roofers were actively working.) As the kitchen repair men were working on the microwave vent duct, they were conversing with the roofers to duct movement and the repositioning. Repairmen had stated, they needed to push the vent pipe 16 inches up above the roof, and that the roofers could cut the remaining vent pipe to fit their cap, which they did. After another 1/2 hour the kitchen men said they were done, cleaned up all the dust, tools, and particle board fragments, collected their check and left. All in all, we were not at all thrilled with the finished appearance,and with all this, the roofers called something to our attention after the Friendly Home Repair crew had left. It seems, upon their completion with our microwave vent, the repairmen had pulled down the vent stack to fit their opening, and left a section opening in the attic with no connection at all. The roofers were done cleaned up and left, we called the Friendly Home Repair owner to please finish their job. They came back later, went in the attic, and added a piece to connect the vent, but they charged us for their supplies which we thought was not fair. That should of been included in the total price on the job plus we should not have had to call them back to fix their mistakes in the first place.

We obtained 5 estimates before making our decision to go with BGS Renovations.  Theirs was neither the highest nor the lowest priced estimate.  They seemed to understand the vision I had to refurbish my 30+ year old kitchen with something that brought it into the 21st century, while knowing I had a budget of $15,000.00 I had to adhere to.  Their fee was the biggest portion of the budget, coming in at $5,200.00......and well worth every penny!   They completed the entire renovation in 3 weeks!!!! We appreciated the fact that Gary and Norm arrived each morning on time, worked throughout the day without a lot of "down time".  They were professional and pleasant to have in our home.  They cleaned up the kitchen area each and every day before they left.  The garage area became the "work shop" and "storage area" during the renovation so it was impossible to clean the garage every day, although they picked up after themselves as much as they could.  We had a lot of rain during this time, but they were still able to get the cabinet doors and drawers spray painted and installed within their time frame. We were amazed at the skills they possess.....electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, tile work, cabinetry.  We feel that we were very fortunate to have chosen these two young men to make our kitchen from old and tired to new and beautiful.  We highly recommend these two gentlemen and their company and look forward to having them back to do other projects in the near future,

Issues included wrong size cabinets,wrong color and finish on doors and cabinets, poor workmanship, repeat returns by Home Spaces subcontractors to correct shoddy work by granite countertop installers, poor application of granite sealer and caulking by granite installers, long delays for cabinet and door replacements, holidays spent with no kitchen cabinets, half kitchen, kitchen with 15 doors being removed for replacement, above stove microwave venting has changed due to incorrect cabinet measurement, no timely return of voice calls or emails from Jim Lavalle. Soft close issues not adequately resolved. Threat to place lien if final payment not made even though we have never refused to make our required payments. We delayed final payment trying to resolve this. Homeowner forced to call cabinet manufacturer to seek their help in dealing with color and finish variations after Jim stated by email he had done everything in his power to fix this, he said he would give us info on how to induct warranty on cabinets with the manufacturer after final payment. Thankfully a representative made the long trip to our home on 5/2/14 to see the color differences and offered to replace all top doors at no cost to us but he would have to get approval from Home Spaces to arrange for removal. Approval on 5/14/14. Doors removed on 5/27/14 by Home Spaces. Waited over 30 days for Home Spaces to re-install replacement doors on 6/30/14. Half of final payment paid on 5/27/14 when doors removed. Final payment made on 6/30/14 to Home Spaces when doors re-installed. It took another 24 days for Home Spaces to cash final check after waiting 23 days to question amount paid. Don't know if we will get a paid in full invoice. Didn't ask for one yet. Do know in our opinion, it should never have taken this long to complete this project. (8 1/2 months new install) We have buyers remorse and caution others to beware when dealing with Home Spaces.
