charles and wife jessica work together, sometimes teaming, sometimes splitting up to take on separate projects. they get a lot done in the time they're working. everything i've asked them to do has been done well. they work at a good pace (at 65 i hate to be outrunning/outworking the handyman 30 years younger), paying $20 an hour seems very fair to me, and i don't have a problem with the occasional five-ten minute break. some of the work i ask of them is heavy work. they've worked for me several days now. if i'm taking them a distance i pay the driving time, and if they are pulling their own riding lawn mower behind their van, i contribute to gas. i haven't found anyone in the area where my rentals are to work at such a reasonable price. and i haven't found many people who give consistently skilled labor--small plumbing fixes, change out a light switch that is getting worn, clean out a shed and move the various pieces of storage furniture around, move filing cabinets, lawn work, roof cleaning, tree trimming, sealing decks...this was a job that meant lifting the small but heavy wooden decks up to get at the grain underground. she's personable, he's serious, both friendly and effective.
