I thought we were in good hands with all of her wonderful Angie's List reviews but I could not have been more wrong. We have had the single worst experience with a contractor we hired to do work ever, and we have a lot of experience with contractors. In March we decided we wanted to redo our backyard and give our daughter a nice, new place to play. We had nothing but weeds back there and wanted to redo our screen room, pavers, landscape and sod the backyard. All together, we spent about $8000, half of which was the landscaping. We had also received a price for pavers from Laurie, which ended up being almost $10.00 a foot, 2 times the cost of the company we ended up hiring. We felt the landscape costs were fair, however, and Laurie came off as confident and knowledgeable, so we hired her for that portion. I gave her a deposit with a promise of her starting in 2 weeks to meet our deadline of mid-May, my daughter's 2nd birthday. Laurie did not begin the work in 2 weeks, as promised. It was 3 weeks before she first came out. I had called and texted her several times and she kept putting us off. She finally came out and did the sprinklers, then another week went by before she did any other landscaping. She brought so many plants out and started doing the sod right away. It was apparent after the first day that she either completely forgot our conversation or didn't care/listen. It was more plants than we had discussed and less sod. She had set the sprinklers so it would not actually water all of the sod, because she didn't listen when we told her where we wanted our daughter's play area, that we were planning on installing a mulch area, to be. She kept telling me I was wrong, that I had told her I wanted that third of my yard mulch, but that was never the case. We went back and forth for over a week about the plants and their placement, and to this day it still isn't what I wanted. Every time I changed something because she didn't listen, I was met with attitude and indifference. I just wanted to get through it, so my daughter could enjoy her new yard. Almost immediately we had issues. One of our plants died within a week, which she replaced, and it has since died again because of it's position to the sprinkler they put behind it. The new sod started to die within the first week. She did come by to look at it, and told us we had sod web worm and we had to have it treated. Turns out, she never treated the ground for pests prior to putting the sod down. Our grass has never looked like a nice, new lawn. She told us it was our fault and that we watered too much. We watered to her instructions! We cut down the watering because of the rain we received this summer, and have since turned our sprinklers off completely. We paid over $200 to have it treated, which killed the sod web worm, but our fertilization company we use has told us several times it is not coming back and they have done everything they can. You'd think someone who made a mistake would own up to it and help us fix it, but she has not. Laurie insists our new sod is dead because of us. She blames us constantly. She will not accept she put an inferior product in our yard and did not do enough to insure our sod had the best chance to flourish. She has been rude, disrespectful and insulting. She says we have no warranty on sod and 90 days on plants. She refuses to replace the dead again plant, which is only dead due to their negligence. She never put anything down for weed control in our planters and they are now being overtaken by weeds. She claims she told us sod has no warranty but she never did. She claims she is here to help but refuses to do so. I've sent her countless photos of our yard and she keeps saying it's our fault. I expected her to stand by her work and her product. I didn't source the sod. She, as a business owner, should go back to the company she gets it from and hold them accountable. Instead of being helpful, as she claims to be, I get texts like this from her: "They make that artificial turf, you don't have to water, no pesticides, no fertilizer, no mowing, no worries." "What do you think you never have to fertilize or put bug stuff down?" "Get educated call Duda sod and ask them." "I've done this 30 years and no one has ever complained. I'd say it's you." "Have a small portion of sod that could be fixed, but you don't want any help on that." (After I had her out to fix it. She is still trying to blame it on me.) 4 months later, we still have no solution. Our yard is still dying. The plant is still dead. I send her pics and she tells me it didn't look like that last week. It is getting worse. The worst part is that we don't even want to be out there. This entire experience has left such a horrible taste in our mouths that it has tainted what was supposed to be a retreat for our family to enjoy. Now every time we are out there we are disgusted by what this woman has done and put us through. I am adding photos so you can see what our yard looks like now. Do yourself a favor and hire someone else. She takes no pride in her work or personal responsibility. Read some other recent reviews. I am not the only one on here lately that has said these same things. She blames it on the homeowner. I wish those reviews were up before I hired her. She will take your money and not care what she leaves you. There are so many landscaping companies out there who will do better work, and stand by their work. I suggest going with them.
