Recent Review: The deck was completed per the proposal, all permits were obtained and all inspections were completed.  Doug's crew was punctual about getting to work and working all day.  The workmanship on the decking is very good, Doug uses a rubber type membrane to protect the support joists from water. The weather caused some slight delays but nothing major.   There was also an issue when one of the ledger board lag bolts pierced an interior drain line.  Doug obtained a plumber who was able to fix the drain. The workmanship on the deck railing is acceptable, there are small items that I've found during the last year that I attribute to "trying to get done quickly".  i.e. a screw fastening the railing to the ballister assembly is stripped, and the ballister assembly doesn't fitt tight to the railing. The railing corners are joined by a rather large screw diagonally through the joint that caused some splitting(I replaced this with pocket screws under the railing which got everything back in line). Doug is easy to work with, listens to your ideas and provides good feed back.  He is responsible and dependable.

Recent Review: I couldn't be happier with the finished product! Tim was always very professional, punctual and responsive. I provided him with pictures of the designs I wanted and he was able to fabricate exactly what I was looking for. These were detailed, intricate designs. Nothing was a problem for Tim. He also was able to anticipate any issues and was able to plan ahead to avoid problems. An example, would be the floating shelves in front of a window, which required something to prevent dishes from falling off the back. Tim suggested a strip of plexi, which works perfectly and is invisible. With the skilled craftsmanship of Dortye, I feel my home has gone from an ordinary builder one to a custom finished one. Tim and Tony are incredibly talented and take pride in their work. I will definitely use them again for all of my carpentry needs.

Recent Review: The 2 carpenters arrived early (a friend said "No WAY!!!"), they saw the scope of the project and started right away. They did not take a break. We were paying by the hour (estimating the amount of time the project would take was impossible, thus the hourly rate). Some contractors would drag their feet, but not these two guys. They refinished the small places of newly exposed wood that needed it, and left the house with all their tools and sawdust. Awesome.

Recent Review: Brian came right away to give us an estimate. After looking at the jobs, he told us he thought the deck would rot again in a few years due to it's damp location. He recommended we consider pavers instead and recommended a company he knows and has worked with. He did email us an estimate for both projects. I contacted the other company about pavers & we decided to do that in place of the decking. I was very impressed that Brian was honest with us and didn't just rebuild the deck, knowing that it would not last. As for the ramp, he and his crew arrived on the day we expected and did a great job of removing the old ramp and building the new one, cleaning up afterwards. We even asked at the last minute for a rail on the edge and they didn't hesitate to add it. Cost was very reasonable. We would definitely use Two Guys again and recommend them highly.

Overall, it went very well. We have noticed some peeling on rail. Not sure if this is due to the snow or what? Also, feel like the stain scratches off easy.

ACT Enterprises Construction LLC
We first found out about CT Enterprises on Angie's List and have used this company a number of times, for some minor and some major work (electrical, lighting, sidewalk brickwork, porch drainage modifications, new French Door installation).  Every job was done on time, within estimated costs and professionally completed.  Chris Tarske, the owner, is a perfectionist and obviously expects his crew to hold that same standard. We had discussed this deck job with Chris three years ago, but decided we just couldn't afford to do it at that time.  This year, when we contacted Chris in late May, he recommended some newer, superior materials that were not available in 2011 and helped us make the best choices for this project. Based on Chris' recommendations, the reasoning for each recommendation carefully explained by him, we chose the new top-of-the-line Trex Transend decking. The deck was actually built while we were vacationing in Denver, CO.  When we returned from that trip, a new VERY beautifully crafted deck awaited us.  We had chosen a new color that had just been made available, "Island Mist", and it was gorgeous!  Every aspect of the completed deck exudes quality and a very high standard of craftsmanship and attention to detail. In an age where simply "good enough" work seems to be the norm, CT Enterprises is a welcome, very bright exception.

This was a terrible experience that I would not wish on anyone.  First, the posts for the railings were put up...not evenly spaced like I asked.  One was at 23", the next 30", the next 28", etc.  it was terrible.  I made them remove the posts... which made them mad. Then, they started to lay the flooring... it took them an 8 hour day to lay 8 boards that did not even have any angles to cut, etc.  My mom was home and said that they spent most of the day smoking... the cigarette butts were everywhere.  Then they ran out of flooring boards... because the order was incorrectly placed by the owner.  Then, I had to wait for the boards.  In the meantime, they were trying to figure out how to do the partial roofing... it was obvious that they did not know what they were doing.  I finally, was so discouraged with the entire thing, that I told them to just lay the flooring for the deck and that was all I wanted.  Finally, after weeks of waiting for the correct boards to come in, they finished the flooring of the deck.  Everywhere they had to miter a corner, the boards did not match and looked terrible.  One was so bad, I made them redo it twice because they couldn't get it right.  It was so bad, I still have the board to show others their "professional" work!  My deck flooring looks fair at best...  On top of the sorry work, the owner expected me to pay for the entire project even though all I got was the flooring.  This was the most ridiculous thing I had ever heard of and it took me standing my ground to not have to pay for the entire project.  I would not wish this company on anyone.  Maybe a simple fence or deck they could do, if you aren't very concerned with how it will look, but anything more than that is way over their skills ability and way over priced.   We had a terrible, terrible experience!

FHandyman Hero
Mr Greer and family were very nice and I hate writing a negative review but my experience was awful. When hired he assured me he was experienced in the installation of vinyl fencing and I'm sure he is, but he was totally dismissive of me when I tried to explain that the fence we had purchased is different from the installation of most others. I showed him the instructions on where and how to place screws and he dismissed the issue and placed them how he wanted. Ahead of time I had cut the pickets so the fence would have a scalloped top. I tried to show him how they were all bundled and organised so all he had to do was systematically slide them in. He again dismissed me and started sliding them into the rail in the wrong order. I told him I would do the pickets (once you slide them in they lock in place and I wanted them done right). He didn't read the instruction manual and improperly dry fitted the gates and made the gate posts too wide. I read the manual, figured out what he had done wrong and then called the company who helped us find a retro-fix so we wouldn't have to rip up fence posts. His work was not up to our standards and we finally told him we would finish up and asked what we owed him for work done. He took off $50.00 each for the 2 gate installations (after the posts the hardest part of the job) and insisted we owed for the entire rest of the job. We paid. We then went around the entire fence and reset all the top and bottom rails, placed the pickets and fixed and reinforced sloppy work. Also, I had bought extra fence kits "just in case". He opened these boxes to rob posts making returning them very difficult instead of using the extra posts I had bought separately. There was a total lack of attention to detail, aesthetics, organization and budget efficiency. We still have to put in one more section of fence and complete the gates but we are so glad to be done with the "Handyman Hero". Even the neighbors commented on the difference before and after we fixed his mess. Nice people and maybe some of the other fencing work they have done was good but not this one.

AReliable Handyman
Our experience with Tim Porter was great. He responded promptly to our phone call, came over and looked at the house, and gave a quote on the spot He showed up to do the work on time and worked every day until it was done. His work was of excellent quality. Part of it involved taking up broken tile which had been improperly laid two years ago by a previous repairman. In the kitchen and dining room no underlay had been used. In the bathroom he discovered the tile had been laid over underlay which covered an area where there was a large hole in the floor. Tim was able to put in sub-flooring, then underlay and tile. Other work involved outside pressure washing of eaves and deck, pulling up a rotten mail box post and putting in a new one, replacing a rail on the deck steps, making repairs under the kitchen sink and re-attaching hinged cabinet doors that were off, putting a new closure on the front screen door, installing smoke alarms, and re-painting all interior walls. Tim's work ethic is impeccable, and his work is superb. We will definitely use him in the future. We were in a real bind because the previous repairman wouldn't respond when called. In retrospect we understand why. We are so happy that we discovered Reliable Handyman on Angies List. Thank You Tim!

DTracy Roberts Handyman Service LLC
Researched Angie's list and met with 3 painters. Got 2 quotes and went with Tracy, highest quote, but best references. Started out great with communication, quick start, furniture and floors covered and clean up after days work. We were asked for an additional $1000 in second week to cover unforeseen work. We wanted a great job in the end so we agreed. Then we noticed some negative changes like different workers on job and house plus yard had become very unkept and cluttered with construction debris, paper removed from furniture and floors and Tracy not on the job very much.  As interior paint started we had multiple colors applied to wrong areas, paint on tile floor and furniture ,items overlooked from original contract, request was to install doggie door for mini poodle however crew installed for the height of a Great Dane (and yes dog was on site) work overlooked on repair/replace soffit vents and interior vents. When we approached Tracy about fixing broken items and completing all items for job he didn't always take responsibility for incomplete work or damage. Most was corrected but not all. In the end we were left with an average paint job at a high price, several days to clean over spray and several hours of cleaning up debris left from construction in yard.  Since workers have left work space we have found many receptacles we were charged for we're not replaced and even a few were painted white to look like they were replaced. Charged $11 per unit. We would strongly recommend getting all work to be completed in writing down to little details, stay on site to oversee all work, withhold funds until complete clean up is complete or just hire a different company. Started job April 1 and completed April 27. We were told job was completed on April 24 so agreed to meet on April 26 to inspect and pay final due. Upon arriving to property at noon on April 26 we found incomplete work and no clean up. It would be the following day at approximately 4 pm when workers left property.

CHometown Contractors, Inc.
Rescreening of porch went well, arrived on time, did a good job. no issues with that part of the 3 part project. taking out the old shower and converting into a closet I would grade a B.  Only because the metal shelves were installed with little clearance making it hard to move them out of the way for me to paint the walls. The showcase was to be the two station shower.  This is a big shower, 5ft. 2in. by 7ft.  The first day of construction was to take out the old tub and walls, old shower, move drain in floor and water lines.  OK so far, they did not have a heavy duty hammer drill to take out the needed area in the floor slab to install the new floor drain.  Next day they had the proper tool and started building.  Water was moved, walls correctly put in, all no problems.  Being a non standard size they had to custom build a floor pan and did so with concrete. Whoops, not enough concrete, see you tomorrow.  Back with the concrete, that part done.  This was all done freestyle and is not really perfect as it is a little wavy.  grade it a C.  Now the sheets of tile and center drain,  the grout lines do not line up in several areas and the center drain trim was not square to the tile and had them resquare it.  Grade that part of the job a D- .  The back wall has a full length bench, as they were building it I asked that they pay careful attention and pitch it so water would run off the bench.  Grade that a F, also the step in to the shower is not pitched in enough, another F. The selection of hardware for the showers was great, only problem, they ordered the wrong diverter valve, more delays and a phone call to Chicago to straighten it all out because that is where everyone was attending a workshop to replace the product they were using on my wall with another of equal quality but having a lower price.  I got the higher price material and never was told they were getting a new line of material.  The glass doors from their supplier were late, promised, late again and again.  Finally arrives but the top rail is not correct and we have some more delays.  Finally done, finished caulking and did final caulk with a clear next to the opaque that had been used.  Clear is a far better look and I ask if they will recaulk to clear. " I'll get back to you on that and I agree, clear does look better."  Still waiting Jose.  Nice guy, full of promises, wants this to be the showcase job in the resort and hopes to get a lot of business on the project.  He was to be on top of this job the whole way, it was to be perfect.  No way Jose.  He will have all the excuses.  Still waiting for all of the warranty paperwork,  sick of hearing the excuses.  They sent a electrician, son of the owner of the electric company and a helper to install a ceiling fan and shower light.  They arrived without anyone saying they were coming.  Between Hometowns crew and me,[ having electrical knowledge] taught the two young lads how to do the job.  They needed a circuit breaker and did not have one so I taught him how to tap into another breaker.  Final grade, screen job A,  closet conversion B, and shower, anything from a B to an F, shower overall I give a C- to a D
