It has been a nightmare. Over 15 months later, the job isn't finished. It started as a 3-week job in July 2013 (yes 2013) after we found Outdoor Kitchen and Grills at a local home show. We had recently bought our home and I wanted to install a small outdoor kitchen. Craig Araujo came out and assessed my back yard. In addition to ideas for a built in grill and fridge, we discussed how the brick pool pavers were faded and needed leveling, and the pool finish was stained. He had cousins who did all that, too! We were presented with a beautiful computer-generated kitchen design with travertine pavered pool deck and deep Caribbean blue pebble pool finish. Andre Araujo guaranteed "you're gonna love it". With the stellar reviews we'd read, we were so excited! After a health issue, I realized, life is short, so we invested a major chunk of a lifetime of savings for this dream kitchen. From start to finish, Craig was and has been virtually inaccessible and I was forced to serve as scheduler of workers and kept things moving. Shame on me for not doing my due diligence on this company. Day one, the wrong travertine was installed and I was offered a free sealant as a consolation. The paver fit and finish is less-than-average with some very bad cuts. The pool tile install is amateurish and crooked. We are very dissatisfied. The pool finish was never right, with a recurring stain, and after draining, acid-washing, and pouring massive chemicals in it over and over, it is not the color we chose as a result of the acid. Kitchen construction started and I learned later, no permits were pulled for construction of pergola, installing gas line, or plumbing and it was all done wrong by general workers. They didn't shim the kitchen frame and it slopes backward with the pool deck grade, so any water on the counter pools until I squeegee or blow it off. A flat-screen TV was installed over the grill, per the design, and has virtually melted with the grill heat and is covered with grease which cannot be cleaned. The plot thickens. Apparently, until my project, the contractor license CGC#1508797 used was not even registered to do work in Hillsborough county despite the numerous jobs they had been doing. Hillsborough County got involved only after when it was reported to them the gas line was illegally installed - untraceable, 6" below ground on public easement. Months ago, I had hired a tree trimming company to remove bamboo and the gas line was not marked by the utility companies, so they reported it. A horrible situation turned worse. Craig was forced by the county to pull permits for gas, water and electric and none met code. The gas was shut off and my pavers pulled up and a trench dug for a new gas line. Because it was an after the fact permit, the county required permits (by licensed contractors) for the electric and water before issuing a gas permit. I lived with a muddy water-filled treacherous trench around my pool most of this very rainy summer. A second lost summer in our back yard. The gas line was finally approved, trench filled in, and pavers re-installed. They are now uneven as the dirt wasn't packed in correctly, the County inspector told me. At least the gas line is safe now and was inspected this week. The water and electric are still not completed to code, and have open permits. I cannot get Craig to return my calls. We are done with the emotion of the poor workmanship, we just want this outstanding work to be completed safely and legally.
